Pay for the game and maybe you would have the right to complain a bit.
Where is this pretentious anti-piracy attitude stemming from? Do you have some sort of 6th sense allowing you to tell who did or did not purchase the game, or are you (more likely) just labelling anyone who did not enjoy the game as much as you did a pirate?
It comes from the fact that this guy always posts spoilers in the main board and refuses to register his game, then when asked to says he 'lost hes code in the car before he got home' .....meaning he could nevr have installed the game to begin with.
So, I am labeling him a pirate based on his own stupid story.
Thanks for your concern.

RPG's have always been about what kind of companions you want. But this game forces mages into your party a lot.
I'm getting tired of this ****. I've been playing rpgs for years and I ALWAYS ALWAYS have a pure melee/archer group. I NEVER have mages in my group.
THe nerve of these devs forcing mages into your group and forcing you to change your playstyle.
Sure you can. I do it all the time. Just finished the Deep Roads with Me (Archer/Ranger), Shale, Oghren, and Dog (plus summoned pet). Maybe there are some fights where one must have a mage, but I'm on my third playthrough and haven't come across one. There are fights where having a mage are much EASIER, but that's a different thing. Of course some story parts a mage is a required party member, but beyond that, you're free to choose.

Agreed there are no fights where you need a mage, never. 3th playthru without a mage. Was no problem.
Setup: S&B Warrior (me), Allistar (2H! wanted to try something different with him)
Oghren (you have to love the dwarf) Lil (because of lockpick and she is my sweetie)

When are you required to have a mage? I can't think of any time they force it on you.
First they force a mage on you at the tower of ishal.
Then they force morrigan into your party at the bandit encounter.
Then they force wynne into your party at circle magi tower.
........ It's so ****ing dumb, it's like the game is telling me "you're **** without a mage".
Um, your raging because you get 2 npcs henchmen for one mission? (or just the mage if your human noble and have the dog)
What bandit encounter 'forces' morrigan? and you can tell her to leave.
Wynne, you get her to open the tower...(big deal)
Are you raging that you get mage henchmen at all? Cause you could...you know, IGNORE them and leave them in the party camp.

Redcliffe is an optional zone? What kind of pirated copy did you buy?

Try and play Baldur's Gate 2/Planescape/Icewind Dale 2 etc without a mage or cleric. See how you get along with it.
Baldurs Gate 2 is quite soloable with a Fighter or Rogue actually.

The only kind of character that is forced upon you is a rogue due to locked chests. You can complete the game just fine without mages.
Errr...no? A mage to deal AoE damage for the big fights, as well as to bring healing and crowd-control is far more "forced up yer arse" than a Rogue to pick locks for lackluster trash loot...
Problem is they made Mages too universal. For one thing, they shouldn't have made 'em the healers as well as damage-dealers and crowd-controllers. A Mage plain and simple a complete package of abilities, while a Rogue or Warrior just seem gimps in comparison.

Um, I never worried about crowd control or heavy AoE ever during my first playthrough. Infact I never worried about who tanks or who DPS. Honestly I might play mage once simply to get the achievement, Rogues and Warriors hold far more interest and fun for me. Remember fellows, not everybody here comes from the competitive PvP in Neverwinter Nights and other games and worries about Min-Maxing and planning every level and encounter days in advance. Some play the game for FUN, weird concept no?
