The reason why people occasionally get games early is cuz 2nd class service often takes 2-5 days, therefore they dispatch early to increase chance of delivery on the release day. In this case, they know it's going to be guaranteed next day delivery, so they will send out on Thursday.

From the sounds of things they are slowly working through the long list of pre-orders, checking off e-mails with their 'dispatched' notice, all ready so they can send out courier service via Parcelforce24 on Thursday to GUARANTEE delivery on Friday. Everyone is being upgraded to courier service so obviously they will hold off til Thursday so they can obey the law. They wont send out this 1st class service early knowing we'll get the game one or two days before release date. I guess it's illegal for them to do so.

Replace "illegal" with "breach of contract" and i agree...
I think I may be popping home from work early on Friday...

What's the point of pre-ordering if you don't get it early?
Other than pre-order bonuses and guaranteeing you get a copy on release day, there is no point to pre-ordering...
Oh and pre-loading for digital downloads of course...
To be honest, unless I want to play a download game on release day or I want a physical copy of a game that I know will be popular, I never bother with pre-orders...

I think for the next pc game I buy I will either buy it and download via Steam or just buy from my local Game store. This waiting for Game to actually despatch my pre-order of Dragon Age is frustrating.

EDIT: Oh, and do you have to actually be in to take the package from the couriers? Because there is no-one in my house during normal delivery times ...

What happens if you miss them? Can you collect from a depot during the weekend, or do you have to wait until ... MONDAY?

This will depend on country and... well, on the one delivering.
I know that it is custom here to bring it to a post office and leave a note behind if they are not home (Note saying they can pick it up any coming workday). I have only had this once though, as most mailmen simply give it to the neighbors if you are not home... Though most of the games I've ordered this far would just fit in the mailbox anyway.

I'm considering picking it up, but it's pretty pricey, and I'm also considering the guide.
