Well, apparently there are two different types of freezing. Both require a hard-reset, but one freeze, simply everything stops.
The other freeze? You will hear sound for the next few moments, and your
controller will continue to vibrate/rumble, THEN everything will go
silent. So, you must hard-reset.
Well, after experiencing the LATTER in MP, I said **** it and went back to playing SP.
Lo and behold, all of my single-player stats were wiped out.
My saves were untouched; every one of them worked fine. But in-game stats,
like how many enemies you've killed total, how many you've melee'd, how
many you've incinerated, etc - were wiped. I was standing at around
2000 enemies killed before the freeze. While doing a certain mission I'm
guessing 3/4s of the way through the game, a notification popped up
telling me I had just killed my first enemy. It said "Veteran - 1/5000".
This is completely wrong. It also told me I had just gotten my first
melee kill, despite having the achievement for 100 melee kills already.
As it stands, there is literally no way to save yourself from this bug. That is, unless you refuse to play MP.
