Hello.
I have a huge problem with the Origin client. I purchased the Digital Deluxe version of Mass Effect 3 from
http://uk.gamesplanet.com/ on pre-load. As a result I was able to manually download all the installation files
for Mass Effect 3 into my computer. It took 2 days but I was patient. Having done this, I attempted a pre-
install and discovered that my EAstore client automatically updated to the Origin client which it turns out,
I need to have connected to the internet every single time I start up the game, even in single player mode.
Except that in my case, every time I attempted to log into the client, my internet router crashed.
The lights always go off and I lose my internet connection until I turn off the router and turn it back on.
Therefore I cannot play the game at home at all.
Having emailed EA help and after getting in touch with several advisors online, they had me de-installing and re-installing the client, and eventually Mass Effect 3 several times. To no effect.
Eventually I was able to log into Origin by getting connected at a cafe nearby.
This enabled me to install the downloaded files and at last get Mass Effect version 1.00 running.
The authentication process appears to have carried on normally with my keys accepted into the system and the release date verified. The nag came when the system tried to download patch 1.01 and all the bonus add ons.
The M-55 rifle is there, which I suspect was already in the files I downloaded in the first place. So it never came through the client. The rest of the stuff included the Ashes DLC gives half an hour of preparation for download, followed by half an hour of calculations and downloads permanently 0 KB from a 0 KB file. Then gives you a pop up saying there are no active tasks.
I ran a packet trace check from the cafe I was sat at.
The results are below.
I discovered that the client is able to send information out, so I was able install the Mass Effect 3 files which I had downloaded manually from the e-mail where my game purchase was confirmed.
I was also able to activate the game.
However, the client is unable to download anything at all. It cannot even see the files it is meant to be downloading.
It spends a long time 'preparing' and 'calculating' the download of the 1.01 patch and the add ons which appear on my game profile. But the icons constantly report a 0 KB download of 0 KB. I have concluded this is because the Origin client cannot see the files it has been programmed to download.
Installing and re-installing both the game and the client have done nothing to help the situation.
I simply return to the same place with an infinite loop of 'preparing' and 'calculating' but no actual download. As the client cannot see any files in it's home server, it is also unable to do an 'install repair' routine which is available in the menu.
On Task Manager, I was told by one of your advisors to check the affinity icon for Origin. I was told the Origin client execute program should be running on CPU numbers 1 and 0. If this is the case, there is something wrong with the way the program installs, as every time the program is closed down and re-started it wil re-start with all the CPU icons checked even if they were previously changed.
I have already disabled all the computer's firewalls and security programs and performed a clean boot of windows with almost no applications running to try to find any incompatible programs. I have achieved no results after ten hours of work on reinstallations and restartups.
This must be the worst client I have ever come accross. Most poorly written programs cause the computer to crash. This is the only program which I have seen turning off an internet connection at the router.
I have concluded that what I need is to download the patch files manually from an e-mail or a website. Authentication might be possible from the program which passes for a download client, but I will not be able to achieve download from it. Not unless it is heavily modified to make it just like the EA store manager which was put out of service last year.
Does anyone know how to download patch 1.01 file by an alternative means? I have after all, paid for the product already and not received much effective help from the official channel.
I feel very unhappy about the need to log online into the Origin client every time I wish to start a single player game. I was under the impression from previous experience with The Witcher, Dragon Age, etc that after authenticating the game online, there should be no need to reconnect to the internet again unless the game itself were an online game.
At present I find it impossible to get the client not to turn off internet router at home and I only achieve a log in by going out and using an alternative connection.
Even if connecting was not a problem, how am I supposed to play the game if EA ges bankrupt and the server is shut? Or on days when it will be on maintenance, or experiencing problems?
At present, to play the version of Mass Effect I do have, I need take the laptop outside, log into Origin.
Start Mass Effect 3. Then take the laptop back to my flat to reconnect and leave the game running or I will not be able to re-start it. I also have to disable Origin if I want to go online and minize the game without turning it off. If I am careless the Origin client will stop my router and I will need to wait five minutes until I can turn it off and start again.
I need a method to get the game started without any internet connection.
Does anyone think they can help me with any of these problems?
I have written several times and got in touch with several advisors already and have not received much help so far.
Thank you,
Eduardo Wu
