I haven't played Awakenings nearly as much as Origins. First time through was as a dual-wield/archer Warden and second as a mage/arcane warrior Warden.
Are there any particularly interesting ways of playing through Awakenings? My strategy as it has developed in the two playthroughs so far is to recruit Oghren, Sigrin, Nathaniel, and Anders as soon as possible. Valenna and Justice tend to be recruited somewhat later, with no particular preference in order. After that I never seem to have a real clear idea on what I should do or not do. I just seem to ramble about and gradually finish all the quests I can before the final battle is triggered.
I've had some trouble getting certain quests to trigger. Sigrin's Roguish Past sometimes will trigger and sometimes won't. I know not to do Law and Order before recruiting Sigrin, but one playthrough the quest triggered and the other it did not. I have no idea what the difference was....?
My theory on the Silverite Mines is that if the Warden or any of the companions wakes up in his/her underwear the quest will be bugged and getting all the equipment back will be a problem. Everyone in the team should be wearing clothes of some description when they wake up. If not, I reload and try again. Sometimes I reload and go back to Vigil's Keep to exchange items of gear before trying again. That can be a bit sticky, that section of the game.
However, for all the buggy bits in Awakenings I have come to sort of enjoy it. Not in the same way as Origins, which is a much more compelling story and campaign. But Awakenings has some interesting elements. It is also a relatively short campaign. Quick to play through.
But to return to the question. Anyone have a really interesting strategy for playing through Awakenings? Any hard to discover surprises in Awakenings that you might like to share a hint or two about?

The only important thing to remember is to do Blackmarsh last - and to make sure you've done every quest you care about doing before you head there.
Awakenings was sadly riddles with bugs - though if you've playing on PC there are fixes for the two problems you mentioned above.
In terms of surprises the only thing I can think of is the Blight orphans quest. There are a lot of them, but if you do them all you'll be rewarded with an epilogue slide
