Just completed the game last night, and while I am on the side that was not a fan of the ending(s), I still have to give BW credit for creating a damn good game. Besides the ending, there were many great moments in this game.

A couple of those moments for me were the Kai Leng renegade interrupt, Victus acknowledging Garrus's calibrations, walking in on Tali and Garrus's "moment", the final talk with each squadmate before the final push, etc (there are many many more)

I was just wondering what moments in the game (happy, sad, funny, or anything) stood out for you guys. Lets refrain from discussing the ending in this thread because I believe our personal thoughts and wishes on it is putting a dark cloud on one of the best games i've ever had the privilege of playing.

Good points, I havent finished the game yet, but my favorite part so far is where my ME2 romance with Jack is going.

Mordin's comment as he gets on the elevator. "Had to be me. Someone else might have gotten it wrong." I had to stop playing after that cut scene. To busy blubbering like a baby.

But the single most perfect moment in the entire game, emotion wise, is when Shepard and Anderson are sitting together right before the end, and Anderson says, "You did good, child. You did good. I'm proud of you."

And when Hackett called Shepard, and Shepard replied "What do you need me to do?" My god, she just sounded so unbelievably tired.

It's easy to get wrapped up in the ending vitriol. But it's truly a great game. And many great games have had terrible endings *cough*myavatar*cough*. I mean downright wretched awful endings. This isn't even the worst one for a game I've played and enjoyed.

Yeah, that last scene really hurt to watch, Crazy. It was like "D'aww... you've earned a rest after all this..."

But, as the song goes... "there ain't no rest for the wicked, 'til we close our eyes for good..."
Or to quote Shepard halfway through: "I'll sleep when I'm dead."

I think people are giving credit where it's due. Most of the player reviews say "what a fantastic game, but OMG what is up with the ending?". If we are giving credit, we should also be allowed to give criticism. It's a great game that ended with its own sour yellow note. The ending's voice rang out to silence all of those that came out of the singing planet.

Yeah, ending stuff aside, the game was amazing up until then. Gameplay was great, locations were beautiful and well designed, and there were a few moments where I couldn't hold in the laughter (or the tears). Loved it.

So if anything, I will be playing this game more than once, just to enjoy everything that happened before that ending. Finishing it again however, is another story. But I guess that's where headcanon and fan fiction fit in. :\\

Because this is the BSN. We can't give credit. We can only hate.

I agree OP. While the ending left a sour taste in my mouth and made me feel like I'd just been kneed in the groin, I can't deny that the rest of the game was completely awesome.

I am up front when I talk about the endings that everything before the endings is stellar.  Most people are too.  The problem is it was so good that the endings are such a crash from a great height.

The quality of the rest of the game is amazing then it just falls in such a disaster.  It colors your entire play experience not just for ME3 but for ME1 and 2 as well.  I've been trying to play another game cause I want to try out another romance save I have.  But its so depressing knowing whats going to happen and there's nothing I can do to change it.

While the ending is a whole matter into itself, the rest of the game is ah-mazing. The love for the fans was a tangible thing (which is maybe why the ending feels wrong to me, that same love was missing).

My top 3 moments that stand out for me right now are:
  • Kai Leng renegade interrupt. I was shouting my words of revenge at the tv, 2 seconds before Shepard uttered the same ones
  • Shepard's last conversation on the bridge of the Normandy with Joker, when they talk about their mission to Eden Prime, it was a mirror image shot of their first conversation in ME1 so long ago.
  • The final walk before the end left me crying for an hour... I'm still crying. The one thing that I've always felt is Bioware's strongest suit, is creating companion characters that you actually give a damn about. To hear Jennifer Hale's voice start cracking as FemShep said her goodbyes left me in awe. Shepard was no longer talking to squad mates but to me.
[edit: wanted to include the quote Joe Carnahan wrote for The Grey, as it nicely sums up the ride]

Once more into the fray.
Into the last good fight I'll ever know.
Live and die on this day.
Live and die on this day.

The game is fantastic. The pressure of the Reaper threat, all the cameos, and the climactic showdown with Illusive Man. Everything was great.

And as far as I'm concerned, the game ended there.

I would love to give credit but I'm not kidding when I say I feel the ending destroyed the game entirely. There are no consolation prizes.

Most people who have a problem with the endings give the rest of the game a AAA rating.

Best analogy to this is a last second fumble at the goal line that would have won your team the game, but now you lost because of it.

The game IS awesome, but the ending ruins it and both previous games along with it. I have a feeling of masterpiece that was dropped in the toilet. It is still masterpiece, but you don't want to touch it anymore.

But it is not like BW cares for such things. They already got the money and that's all they care about.

For me, the endings don't make everything that came before them suddenly bad. The gameplay, story and everything else blew even Mass Effect 2 clean out of the water for me. While the ending is bleak, I can't deny Bioware crafted a fantastic game, and had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I give Bioware credit for what has been an emotional experience that's moved me more than any other game.

That said, some epilogue DLC would be pretty neat. I love my squad, and my Shepard, like they were family. Until then, at least one of the endings allows me to project my own finale in my mind.
