I have noticed that every single time I attempt to load a saved game immediately after I start the game, if I attempt to load the game too quickly my character will reset to the default level 1 character with the exact same progress as my actual save but without any items or skills.

If I wait 20-30 seconds or longer after the game has "connected to ea servers" and "checked for downloadable content" my saves load just fine.

If I get this error I can just press Esc and load the last save (yes this includes autosaves) and everything loads just fine without issue. This only seems to occur right when the game is first started.

I have been able to easily notice when this happens because I made a customer character, and every time this happens the customization is deleted and my character looks like the defualt. Others who USED the defualt may not notice.

I've tested it multiple times, and can get this to happen any time I want... not that I EVER want it.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately it happened to me and I didnt notice till I started a mission and my skills were locked. I had been doing a bunch of other stuff for about 3 hrs before this.

I had the same problem, even my character appearance was defaulted.

This is a very fair assessment. I've never had this bug - but I always wait for connecting/checking DLC messages to completely subside before doing anything, because it just seems logical.

There does seem to be room for problems if this process is interrupted.

I'm assuming they fix this soon if not I'll have to wait for a cheat/trainer to crank my level back up and keep these guidelines in mind.

Open your save > raw > scroll down to player > level

Its not a fix but its a work around so you can at least play again. Kudos for this goes to a friend.

Well crap, I got hit by this bug. I'm gonna have to dig up a really old save I think, 'cause I'd been running around the citadel talking to people and stuff for a while.. real crap bug to have, on top of the other bugs I've encountered.. Buggiest ME, final ME. *sighs*

i havent played MP yet either. Frankly with this issue, and seeing how many ppl are having MP saves and items just vanishing, I'm kinda afraid to waste the time.

ugh tried to eddit my save file to get again my levels but now i noticed some of my mods and armors are missing :S so annoying...

bah just gonna load my last working save...gonna lose 2 hours of gameplay though but it was just doing some quests around citadel... but yeah this sucked a lot...

I'm pretty sure I have always lost my equipment when this happens, but I havent checked every time. If the level resets you pretty much just lost all the exp and you cant earn it back. No reason to keep it that way if it can be avoided unless you are looking to make things harder on yourself.

my issue just removes my skills, levels items and appearance are unchanged,then again it happened mid play and it happens on each and every level transition diffrent level of the Normandy, landing taking off entering a new mission, if it has a loading screen skills are reset

EDIT:

used the save game editor to give myself 250k stat points and set teh game to auto level me, that should take care of it, for now.

Ths bug prevents the game from auto leveling to, on the flip side I won't run out of spoints to reallocate anytime soon.... <_<

come to think of it, I think the whole skill issue started when i got disconnected from the internet while playing......

It happened to me once. A prior save worked.

I also had a bug that was similar--my character was fine but my Galactic Readyness was 0%!!! A restart fixed it.

Well all of your skills ect are reset when this happens, so I would say its a pretty safe conclusion that this bug was a part of that. I have NOT attempted to level my character at all after the bug occurs, but it wouldnt suprise me if the exp value has been set to some unreadable number so adding more to it does nothing to level your character.

EDIT: Hmmm... nope I tested it and you do still gain exp after it all resets. Although, credits, fuel, weapons, skills, levels are all lost. <_<

not only do I lose teh skills,, but if you stick em back on they go Poof again the next time you leave or enter the normandy, my levels weapons credits and fuel all stick around though, so atleast I don't have it that bad, hit level 52 actually, I just need to restick the skill points every time I enter a new area, bit annoying but hey, better then what your haveing im sure (used aprox 13k skill points so far)

might this be (in any way) linked to origins stupid cloud storage? I didn't have any problems up until yesterday and I accidentally switched this cloud BS on (while switching on the overlay, which you obviously need to get the downloaded content menu...). Now, after finishing from the ashes, my character is reset. Thank the maker I made an extra save at the beginning of from the ashes.
