Why is there no numerical description of how high your physical resistance needs to be in order to resist something.

Spells and talents that say "X occurs unless a physical resistance check is passed" annoy the heck out of me because It doesn't say how high the physical resistance has to be.

For example, Allistar starts off with a physical resistance of 10, that seems relatively high from what I have seen so far, but how high is that in comparison to the spells and talents being used?

The description should say "X occurs unless a physical resistance check of Y is passed."

Physical Resistance

For physical effects like being knocked to the ground or rooted in place, the game compares one of the

attacker’s relevant attribute modifiers—strength for most talents and magic for most spells, although roguespecific

talents usually use cunning—to the defender’s physical resistance score. If the physical resistance

score is higher, the status effect does not apply. Physical resistance is half of the total of the character’s

strength, dexterity, and constitution modifiers.

Hmm, I had 100 phys res with my DW lvl 21 rogue, 124 def 125 att, and Loghain still knocked me down once (on normal), but not after he was almost dead. With those same stats I also found that I could get knocked down by blizzard once in a while.

And with the same imported rogue in awakening, I was knocked down by childer grubs even at lvl 33 with 172 def, 172 att, 150 phys resist... :o

I'm not sure how your attack score is relevant to this discussion, but....

Many things can influence the physical resistance check. Most notably is the attribute that determines the power of the attack being used against you. With a warrior's attempt to knock you down, it would be their strength. With a spell like blizzard or weakness, it would be the caster's spellpower. When you consider that physical resistance has a hard cap and these governing attributes do not (at least where NPCs are concerned), you can see why in some instances it is incredibly difficult to resist certain effects. This is what makes immunities so powerful.

The boss special attacks, grabs, knockdowns, cannot be resisted at all.

That makes me wonder what it will look like if you changed your characters appearance to a dragon through the toolset, and get grabbed by an ogre :D
