I'm doing my insanity run, started getting depressed thinking this hallucination theory might not be true, then the female korgan gave me her chisel, and told me to keep it as a reminder that even in your darkest hour, there is always a way out.

I refuse to believe we are forced into these current endings!

OT, but thank you. I completely thought she said "crystal." I was like "How does a crystal help you get out of a cave? Is it magic?"

Makes much more sense now!

Wow, these endings really make you think. I like how it's not just spelled out for us.

I am totally ok with looking like a fool if this has been planned all along :) I hope, I hope, I hope...

If they want me to pay for a proper ending, all they're getting is a figurative finger. Guess which one.

I would be OK with a free DLC that fixed the ending.

I just replayed the citadel sequence myself and noticed many of the things that people have listed here such as Anderson talking about the "walls shifting" and "walking down a dark corridor" which is a common dream metaphor for the unknown.
There are just too many things that seem out of place or odd to not think this is a hallucination/dream sequence and that Shep really is still on Earth and perhaps even being indoctrinated by Harbinger...

I also feel like the destroy option was just so much more "right" then the other two...its what Shep really would do...despite the repercussions its the only choice that lines up with his personal objective: Destroy the Reapers!

But most of all this concept has given me the resolve to replay the game on my other Sheps as it seems to bare the most hope and the most logical possibilities...

This would make sense. Now I've got a reason to start another play through as I was seriously bummed out by the ending that I didn't even want to replay it like I normally did with the previous ME games. Thanks!

This makes the most sense, and actually it fits with the entire game given the numerous dream sequences throughout the game. Don't be surprised if this is what it turns out to be. As others have said, the entire sequence toward the end of the game just seemed so abnormal.

I really like the theory of the child being a reaper/trying to indoctrinate Shepard. It does explain why 2/3 of the options save the Reapers in a way. I also notice the same pole the Catalyst lands on is the same one Soverign did. TIM was indoctrinated and spewing a similar speech to Saren in almost the exact/similar location. The whispering in the halls, the dream metaphors. Who knows maybe this is what really happened? Attempted Indoctrinated Shepard/Hallucination from loss of blood. (I would be happier if it was true.)

I'm buying into the "Dallas" explanation too. It was all a dream or a hallucination. Bring on the expansion pack.

Pretty much sums up what went through my mind at the end. It just didn't feel...right. Also, when Shepard starts breathing under that pile of rubble, he simply CAN'T be on the Citadel. The Citadel was in space, outside the atmosphere, essentially zero-g, and exploded big time. This means if Shepard WAS on the Citadel when it went up, there'd be no air for him to breathe, and no gravity to create the pile of rubble he was trapped under, not to mention I doubt the Citadel was built with concrete, mortar, and rebar.

As ridiculously awesome as this idea is, I think you lend the writers far too much credit. However, I'm willing to maintain reservations and see if anything comes of it. And if I'm wrong, feel free to rub it in my... text? Avatar? I don't know. I recall someone mentioning that the devs weren't planning post-game DLC, so I'm uncertain with how I feel about this. In light of this debacle, I'm still relatively cynical about any measure of reconciliation for the ending.

The whole thing would kind of explain why the ending was somewhat anticlimatic. Something certainly felt off.

Also, what was up with having just that one keeper there?

It would make a lot of sense. I'm hoping so, because I need some closure.

Well if you think about it, adding the real ending to the perceived end of the game technically wouldn't make it post game DLC...

You! Stop beating inklings of hope into me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go brood in my dark corner, where I'll write in my livejournal about how much life sucks. And drink overpriced black coffee from a Lacuna Coil thermos I bought at their last concert--the one that cost me fifty bucks a ticket--at that shady little dive in New York, between a web-cafe and Starbucks.

In seriousness, though, I just think this is a lot of over-extrapolation on our parts. I'd like to believe, but I just can't do it.
