It is not indoctination, simply because the Protean VI could detect those afflicted by it. It accept to speak with Shepard, but detected Kai Lang as indoctrinated on Thessia. So Shep is 'clean' at least to that point in the story.

Good thing the Protheans had such awesome indoctrination scanning techniques.  It'd have sucked for them if they were taken down by a group of indoctrinated agents on the inside.

I assume they build the Prothean VI after they fail their Crucible project because some of them where indoctrinated.

How would they know how to detect Indoctrination anyway, didn't the VI have corrupted data?

Wow.
It's like the 100th time that argument against IDT came up.

Seriously, people?

Well, point where it is in this 1000 page post and I may take a look... Posted Image

My god... I remember that. I paid no attention to it at the time... my god...

EDIT: Come to think of it, proves nothing though, since the ending was changed since that was written. (the original Dark Energy ending was still canon at the time, more than is likely, they werent even considering the Catalyst at that point.)

I guess it's possible it was a fall back ending seed.  Or they picked up on it and went with it after ditching the original Dark Energy endings.

Hmm, could be, conceiveable at least, maybe they saw this one little obscure reference and chose to run with it, though the fact is, did the Volus and his men surivive? Probably not. More than is likely, yet more Reaper manipulation, they're very good at screwing with people's expectations of things.

I wondered something.. do we have a reason why the Reapers want to build a human Reaper?
I mean.. why not build an asari or turian Reaper.. they built the human Reaper in ME2, and at the end of ME3 the bodies on the citadel were all human.

Because its a human who is stood against Sovreign and prevailed, it is a human who destroyed the Collectors. That is also why Earth gets hit the hardest when the Reapers arrive.

Basicly a theory made in the Codex is that one species of every cycle gets harvested and turned into a new Sovreign class reaper while the other species are simply turned into Destroyers.

Humans are chosen for this cycle due to Shepards actions.

Genetic diversity was the original answer in the Dark Energy ending, the humans are more diverse, effectively more "creative" and "innovative" as far as the Reapers are concerned, making them more attractive as a potential soldier in the the recruitment against dark energy, seeking a way to end it.

Still works as an explanation though, Harbiger only makes capital ships from the best :P

Over the past day, I have been feeling a strong inclination that the ending is not indoctrination. I was once a true believer and then a doubter and then a true believer once more but now I'm a doubter once again. I feel that it is obvious that the starchild is not a hallucination. The catalyst is a true necessity that is introduced in the very beginning of the game as being crucial to the crucible. If he is not the catalyst, then what would be? It cannot just be the citadel because it is just a space station. This thought has swayed me to the other side once more... Any thoughts as to what else the catalyst would be and what not?

Only an assumption, but it could be something not introduced yet, Shepard or the gathered army themselves.

Why Shepard or the gathered army?

Because they have plenty enough defiance and/or hope. Shepard himself is the one they've placed their trust in.

I do doubt it though. So, back to something that's not been introduced yet or thought of. That is if the kid is not the catalyst and/or isn't real.

Maybe. I think that would be quite interesting if shepard was the catalyst...

I'm surprised this hasn't crossed more peoples' minds. It seems like something that could be dropped on us, then we all have a "DUHHH" moment

Please no, Shepard isas the catalyst who has to sacrifice himself to save the galaxy is far to messianic for my liking. TBH when I heard there was a "bad" ending that was my first assumption.

I don't mind Shep dying WHILE saving the galaxy but I really don't want to see him/her die TO save the galaxy if you get what I mean

It is not indoctination, simply because the Protean VI could detect those afflicted by it. It accept to speak with Shepard, but detected Kai Lang as indoctrinated on Thessia. So Shep is 'clean' at least to that point in the story. He has to be indoctrinated really quickly, because after Thessia, it's the Cerberus main Base, then the final battle...
Remember the derelict Reaper in ME2? Even broken and inactive, it managed to indoctrinated the scientists studying it. That's how the Illusive Man/Kei Lang got indoctrinated: They made the mistake of bringing the broken 'Human Reaper' in his home Base. I don't know how many time passes between the salvage of the 'Human Reaper' and the battle for the Cerberus Base, but I can only assume that the Illusive Man indoctrination was a subtle and slow process calculated in months...

Hallucination or near-death hallucination seems more likely. But not as interesting, because in fact, the 3 last choices where in fact 1: nothing we saw in the end really happens.
Also, where the hallucination starts and ends? Starts probably after being hit by the red beam (badly hurt and magically lost it's full 'red dragon' armor) and end after the Relays exploded.
But where the Normandy illogic retreat fit in all this? Reaction to what really happens or a 'last wish' from an hallucinating Shepard who hopes everyone he knew managed to survives?...

In the end, I think it's pure bad and illogic storytelling, no more, no less... Due to the leak of the original ending before the release of the game and the lack of creativity and time to work for another one...

Javik talks about reaper "sleeper agents" they had many protheans that were indoctrinated and overthrew seats of goverment. Also it cant detect people that havent given in to the indoctrination yet, that makes the ending that point in the indoctrination process.

find another reason why IT doesnt work....

Don't worry, ^^ a catalyst doesn't get destroyed during the reaction. It is the most important part of a catalysts definition.
Btw thats in my oppinion the most important evidence of IDT, that the Citadel gets destroyed in each case, but if u assume it to be a catalyst its completly wrong by definition. I think the Sci-Fi story writers of ME at least know that simple fact from chemistry.

Hmm that is actually a very good point, but maybe the VI was only used in most top secret projects like the conduit and the beacons and since the harvesting went on for decades and tech inproves so

Thats the new Ending...

Star-Child: "You have a difficult decision to make"

Chad-Shep- "Wait a second...*drops Pistol, :wizard: Produces a guitar, and band rises through the floor* Now I know who you are! It wasn't that hard, just to figure you out!"

And maybe there was an KI named god, who created the Reapers to protect organic from synthetic, by killing organic by synthetic. And of course he is a wizzard with cheating ability, but Shep first needs to give him a deathstar to open new possebilities.

Does this really sounds better for you?

I do however believe the fact that there will be new maps for multiplayer. Seems like a given.

Just to start some kind of discussion... am I the only one who wondered why the Illusive man, a guy who thinks humans are like the best stuff ever, would team you up with aliens in ME2? I guess that would have been boring gameplay-wise, but I always thought it was hilarious how he was all "HUMANATEEE first" and then give you a crew full of aliens.
