See, I agree with this. What I wanted from ME3's ending was an ending that ended the story for Shepard and left the universe open to explore. Because in all honesty the potential in the ME3 universe is as great as the potenial Star Wars' expanded universe had when the orignal trilogy came out. With a bit of work ME could have built an amazinging expanded universe however with the endings as they are now so much of what made the universe interest -the politics, the speices, the mass relays, the concept of previouse cycles and so forth- kind of got nullified (not to mention the fact that no real characters got closure).

Although there is some potenial for an EU as is now, it doesn't look very interest but rather very chaotic... it'd be very hard to 'organise' an ME4 as the galaxy is both methaporiaclly and literally all over the place.

Agreed. This is one of the meta-gaming reasons why I believe there's more to the end than we currently see (doesn't need to be IT, although I find it to be the most compelling). From an economical perspective, you don't throw away your best IP in the vague hope of succeeding in the creation of a grim-dark Warhammer-clone universe.
They possibly have a lot of plans on what they'd like to sell us. And if they are able to fix the ending, a lot of people (including me) will buy this stuff - because we love the universe.

Just to add something more personal- as a guy who litterally grew up watching Star Trek (to the point where the Entreprise D became an extended family due to my lack of an extended family) and a lesser extent Star Wars. Mass Effect replaced both of them as my favorite Sci-Fi universe (and that's no small feat). The sheer amount of detail and complexity of the universe is so amazing that simply throwing it away like they (seemingly) did feels like a massive boot to the face. That in it self shows the sheer depth of the universe.

It's also why IT is so appealing- it works on so many levels- it fixes the ending, feels like it's been set up, allows us atleast one more adventure to say goodbye to Shepard and move onto a new aspect of the universe.

So yeah, On a meta level everything about the ending feels like a setup to a cooler ending... althought there is the fear that if IT is false or Bioware have no great scheme than the Sci-Fi part of my heart is really going to crushed.

Besides me really liking the Firefly universe I completely agree with Mass Effect being my favorite SciFi universe. And I think that is true for many people and one of the core reasons for the massive (and probably underestimated by BW) outcry.

About BW waiting "too long" as some people keep saying: I think one month from release to reveal would be pretty reasonable.

Did you see my post about how it could continue? Last post on the page before this one.

Well, when I was still at school, you would find my in find me in front of the TV at 2pm ... each weekday :) ... "earl grey, hot" has been part of my vocabulary ever since.

And, although I am not into Star Trek that much anymore, I share your feelings. The mass effect universe is very well set up - even though a lot of fantasy-like stuff exists (omni-tools, biotics, shields), this is somehow well-rooted in their introduction of the mass effect (compare that to the Heisenberg compensator in Star Trek). In particular, I find the introduction of mass relays much more sensible than equipping every ship with FTL travel as in Star Trek.

The mass effect universe has indeed also surpassed Babylon 5 for me, which I found to be more believable than Star Trek.

Well, FTL is common in MassEffect, just not as fast as with the relays.

Lol... I'm always paranoid about the Normandy running out of fuel between systems... All through the game I was hoping it would let me upgrade the fuel capacity, as in ME2... :pinched:

Shep remained a Comander because when s/he came back to Earth, s/he was basically stripped of rank/relieved of comand. They're not gonna promote you for destroying a Batarian system, even if they privately agree with what you did.

Also, second playthrough, was checking out the codex on the Crucible. Not sure if this was ever mentioned as there's times i've skipped ten or so pages so I can get to the latest one. Seems that the Shadowbroker tech that was used on it's ship? It was incorporated into the Catalyst, which may mean that...you're not on the Citadel at all. (screenies of the codex below)

But you are clearly inside the citadel at the part where you walk towards the console, because the crucible haven't been attached yet, since you haven't opened the arms. Also, you see the wards when you stand by the console, the same way you see them in ME1 when you go out of that elevator.

Ok, my mistake. It always felt like they were only going close to lightspeed except for the mass relays.

Ok this isnt to do with IDT but im bored and want an answer

So i thought that dreadnoughs couldnt enter planetery atmosphers but in the begining when the reapers hit earth there is one just hovering attacking a reaper before it gets destroyed

Is that possible in the lore or just there for funnzees?

@joukahainen thats the think i didnt hink hey could be constructed in earths atmosphere cause it would need a colosal mass effect field just not to come crashing down but it just seemed odd to be there and not in full retreat with the other fleets

Well, think of it this way, there is a big difference between physically impossible and unadviasable. It could be possible that it entered the earth's atmosphere without having any intention or pretense that it was going to be leaving it.

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt the codex only state that they are too massive to land and nothing else? So, they could hover around but theres not enough space to land one?

Only problem is, that dreadnoughts dont have large inaf mass effect core to handle the re-entry to atmosphere.

EDIT: If i remember it wast mentioned at ME 1

No problem, I probably have the worst knowledge of technological facts in the mass effect universe, but I just read that somewhere, thought I´d throw it in ;)

Does that Space Magic come with a healthy dose of Speculation?... For everyone?

EDIT: You know, this is why you've got to have anti-IT people in this thread, no matter how round about the discussion is atleast it's an on topic discussion.

If the main thrust of this thread is looking at the indoctrination theory, then it stands to reason that a majority of people participating in the discussion are interested in the idea. When the game is viewed through this prism, certain things seem to click together, kind of like a Lego kit. Other parts of the game are more like Meccano- they don't fit with the other pieces.

I would argue that the Meccano elements are simply tossed aside, because it's more fun to keep building with the Lego, because it works. People are enjoying the discussion- and it is very one-sided in this thread.

Obviously you haven't been paying much attention. It's one-sided because we're pretty much out of reasonable opponents of the theory. On the contrary, it seems like most opponents of the theory pick out that one "lego" and focus exclusively on that, ignoring all else. Most of the time it's the fact that the Prothean VI didn't call Shepard indoctrinated. They think that by finding one ****** in the armor, no matter how explainable it is, they have utterly disproved it. Unfortunately for them, logical debate doesn't work like that.

I for one don't like the "Read the whole thing before you post" statements- there are 1000+ pages in this thread. Reading everything from page 1 onwards isn't a realistic expectation/requirement for participation in the discussion. So for people to throw that around I think is unfair. I say welcome, to you sir.

So first we get ragged on for being "one-sided" and then you turn and say it's unreasonable for anyone to read a significant portion of the thread. So then by your own logic you're complaining about something you haven't read. Sweet.

mauro2222 wrote...

I didn't say killed... you actually reinforce my point. If Harbinger wants so desperatly indoctrinate Shepard... why allow him to "destroy" the reapers and free him of it, why actually explain him? and better yet, why destroy doesn't require more war assets to be unlocked?

Why can Shepard, even on insanity difficulty, withstand a few seconds of concentrated fire from the same Oculus beam weapon that just cut through the Normandy's superhull? Google "gameplay mechanics" or "gameplay over realism". This post will be long enough without me having to explain that a game is, by definition, winnable.

MykeHuntz wrote...

I pretty much guarantee that this has already been discussed... but I'm not willing to sift through 1000 pages to find out lol.
Anyone notice that nobody seems to takes notice of the kid just before Shepard leaves Earth? I mean, he is visibly struggling to enter the shuttle, yet the soldier standing beside him appears to take no notice. Doesn't even offer a hand. I just feel like if I was standing there and saw a kid attempting to climb his way in beside me, I would at least offer a hand or something, especially given the urgency. It seems to offer even more evidence that the kid isn't real IMHO.

Thoughts on this?

I'm sure it doesn't mean anything. Writers have characters subtly ignore another character all the time for no particular reason.

3Minotaur3 wrote...

Oh the kid is real. Everybody is too busy around him to notice, except maybe the soldier who close the door after him. His death was just the Catalyst (ok, that was a bit easy ) that starts the annoying nightmare scenes...

I like how you provided nothing but your own say-so as basis for matter-of-factly confirming that he's real.

Bonus points for chastising people in the next post about not providing evidence! Epic lol's.
