Has anyone explained why the datapad at the end (after the credits, where you hit A to resume) says that Shepard defeated the Reaper threat and became a legend (it's killing me that I can't find the exact wording it because I might be recalling it incorrectly)?

Because it reloads a save from before you assault the Cerberus headquarters. It's just a cheap way to disregard the ending and encourage you to buy DLCs.

Bakara did dig herself out of a cave with a crystal, right? I can't remember! It has to be a metaphor or foreshadowing otherwise the dialog would be pointless. She also becomes a figurehead for her people and a symbol of hope.

There's a lot of similarities here and I'm willing to bet that we'll only find more, and this whole thing has been staring us in the face the whole time.

The two discs you get for the PC version. Disc 2 is 6.08 gigs
Disc one is 7.81 gigs Essentially adds up to 14gigs if you include Origin. Now, Looking at the ME3 file on my computer I have a file that is 11 gigs in size. There are 3 gigabytes of information left on those discs.

Also, the amount of memory that the case says is required is 15 gigs. Something is suspicious here. very suspicious.

I want to buy into this theory so much, but I'm trying to remain skeptical about it as well. I hope that we're on the right track here, but, at the very least, I'd say this theory should become the community's "definitive" fanfiction ending!

lol welcome back, several of us are still loitering around here wishing to feel better ;)

I actually haven't been lurking this thread since last night because I was inspired to actually go through and play ME2 again! This time as a Vanguard instead of a Soldier (and holllllllly hell is it fun :D) This thead and the people in it inspired me to do this!

Like I said, for now, this has given me just the right amount of motivation I've needed to go back and play 2 (to "romance" Kelly) and then to go through 3 to see what people are talking about and if I can spot anything else.

I'm almost scared to check back to see if BioWare has ruined it yet, though :P Still, I'll easily headcanon this as my ending if they do.

Yeah I just came back... this thread, this glimmer of hope is the only way I can play any of the games again, and even then, I've only been able to replay select parts... My depression is slowly wearing off. But when I leave this thread and start doing other things, the doubt that maybe the ending is really literal and horrible comes back, and then I end up back here.

Mass Effect 3 seems to have a lot of symbolism, both clear and vague, that hints at possible fates for Shepard. There's the similarities between Saren and TIM encounters, dialogues said at just the right moment or completely removed... it's like missing several puzzle pieces even though you already have a good idea of the big picture.

I still find indoctrination very plausible because it's been a pretty big theme across all three games. Saren was obssessed with resisting its affects, TIM becoming obssessed with using the indoctrination as a weapon for soldiers and controlling the Reapers. It's put in our face so much in both main story missions and side missions it's kind of difficult to ignore it as a plausible explaination.

Edit: Oh and don't know it's already said but after you return from entering the Geth server EDI says something along the lines of "how do you know you are in reality now?". If this theory is true it would make this statement one hell of a foreshadowing.

HOLY CRAP HOW DID WE MISS THAT?!?!?!

Just when I thought we had beaten this thing to death with its own shoe

It was actually Joker who said that but yeah, heh it's a stretch, but heck of a lot of content after that point just for a matrix spin.

When I was doing my playthrough, I already knew about the endings (never watched them) and read up on other spoilers to prepare myself. This was one of the quotes that made me cry because it seemed like no matter what anyone said, it wasn't true. There were a lot of moments like these in the game and I don't want to believe that they were just pushing us towards disappointment and failure.

The one thing, that people seem to be taking for granted too, is the fact that we are seeing Shep's dreams through the course of the game. Makes sense that not only is this foreshadowing and character development, but that dreaming would be part of the conclusion.

My thoughs exactly. Even if we do find the missing peices we will never be sure we have them all until we hear something from BioWare. This has come a long way in a day or so. Keep looking everyone!

Sorry didn't mean you're still inside the server, but that it's a hint that even in a game not everything has to be reality.

That's exactly what my problem would be with it destroying only the Reapers. Destroying all synthetic life and most technology in order to destroy the Reapers makes much more sense.

People also quickly forget that there was never an end-game boss in ME3, unlike ME1 + ME2.

Fighting our way through the streets of London to get to the Beam....is not an end-game battle/boss.

BioWare, just come out and say you trolled us with these "endings" already! Either it's so painfully obvious that this thread has uncovered the truth that the Player-Indoctrination/Dream theory is true, or this series is going to be defined by these current, God-awful endings.

Holy. I just thought of something I noticed but totally discounted. During the scene with TIM and following, there is a distinct lack of color to your Shepard. Your armor, your irises, your makeup/lip color, all of it is gone. Everything is shades of black. The lipstick and eyes were most noticeable to me because my shep has red lips and they were pale pale pink/no lipstick, and her normally bright blue eyes were black.

Found another plot hole: In Anderson's cut dialogue, he says he never had any kids. Yet, if you look into his file on the Shadow Broker base, his ex-wife emailed him about his son, Jason. WHAT IS GOING ON?!

WHAT THE F?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!

Doesn't necessarily mean it's his biological son though. He could be adopted or a step-son or anything. Maybe the cut dialogue is Anderson saying he doesn't have his OWN family.

The first novel, Revelation, expounds on this. He had a wife and has a kid, but he's estranged from them and had been since before his run-in with Saren. He does have kids, but in light of that you can't really say he ever had a family. That's how I figured it, personally.

Yeah but this can just be because he's so badly injured.

I'm all of the Indoctrination theory btw. I really want to believe it. But if it's true, then BW sold us an unfinished product.

Him saying most of the technology you rely on is too vague for me. The wheel is technology, but I doubt it will destroy all the wheels in the galaxy. I mean, come on, we see the reapers gltching out with this ending, but the guns in the hands of the soldiers aren't exploading.

I think it's god kid trying to convince Shep not to choose destroy

Just a thought but when the catalyst describes the choices to Shepard he says that the synthesizing is the final evolution, doesn't that sound like what the reapers think they are?....create a new "dna"...sounds like what they were doing in the collectorbase in ME2...in a way the humans in there became the reapers dna....

There has to be more to this...

There has to be something. Why do all this for nothing? There's too many unknown variables here for what we have now to be final. There's too many variables that are ambigious in nature as well. I can't think why BioWare would leave so many breadcrumbs to follow if there is no other ending.

It again comes back to them being either incredibly stupid or incredibly amazing. Only time will tell.

Regarding the colours, you may be right. The ambient light was as bright as you would expect, but the effects of this light casting on surfaces was diminished. I don't know how to describe it well, but the background was bright but everything from midground to foreground was dark and shady - unnatural.

But then again, this part could simply be artistic license. You only need to look at BF3's crazy lighting to wonder what the hell is going on.

Yeah. The way I read this is as being another clue that BioWare is flinging at us, asking us to be cognizant of the fact that the sequence is not rooted in reality.

I keep hearing about this 1m1 ship theory, but I can not find anything about what 1m1 is.  Can someone elaborate for me?

What did Illusive man mean "earth is perfect in his eyes?"  And what if the God Child is actually Harbringer manifested in Shepard's mind, trying to influence him?
