Bioware make gud games, ALRITE???

Edit: I never played the Dragon Age franchise. :?

You should try Dragon age origin,  just don't bother with DA2

Yeah, my brother was always telling me to play. He said the second was a disappointment though. I never tried it because in my eyes nothing will ever live up to the Baldur's Gate series.

EDIT: (for replies posted while I was typing this) There was nothing subtle about the twists in KOTOR and Jade Empire (as much as I loved those stories).

Oh really? I bow to your superior intellect and powers of deduction to have had any clue who Revan was and that master of yours. Because that floored a lot of us at the time.

*roll eyes*

Yeah, that was the first major twist I ever encountered in a game.  It was incredible.

I got up from my chair, walked a bit away from the PC desk and went " HOLY SH*T". My husband who was nearby just stared at me uncomprehendingly. lol.

It wasn't QUITE that major of a reaction for me (I'm pretty sure I stayed in my seat, lol), but I was pretty shocked.  That was a true Holy Crap moment if ever there was one.

I'm pretty sure I posted this picture here, but on all my subsequent playthroughs of KotOR, my character's name was Darth Revan, to create odd moments like this one

Don't feel bad.  I bought the DA:O complete edition on Steam, but I haven't been able to finish it.  I just haven't really been able to get into it.  I guess Mass Effect has spoiled me when it comes to what I expect from the combat in an RPG.  Also, I really wish the Warder could talk.  It would just makes things that much more immersive.

Get DAII. Don't let the haters make up your mind for you. Play it, and then make your own conclusions. If you don't like it, fine. That's your opinion, not someone else's.

The thing about DA2 is that, if it were just its own separate franchise, and not a sequel to DA:O, it'd be a pretty good game. It just doesnt come close to comparing to DA:O, so a lot of people hate on it.

Well your guy talks in Da2,  just that you're not the warden anymore, and I think that is a big reason why so many didn't like DA2. (including other things)

anyway back to mass effect.

Not to derail the thread, but this whole all this is funny now. I never wanted to play Mass Effect because I always thought your only choice was to play as broshep. I didn't play it until my fiance bought it for me just last year after showing me a screenshot of the femshep character creation screen. Haha. I almost didn't play one of my favorite games of all-time simply because I thought you had to play as a dude. :P I kept telling him to get DA instead. I only like rpgs if you get a female character option.

I think NFG called it years ago.

And I can tell you're going through the motions
I figured you were acting out your part
Once again, we're playing off emotion
Which one of us will burn until the end?

Catalyst, you insist to pull me down
You contradict the fact that you still want me around
And it's all downhill from here
And it's all downhill from here

Yeah, same here. I identify more with female characters than I do with male characters.

Although I am male, so that seems like it has unfortunate implications.

I'm not a hater, I'm just saying that it would be pointess to get da2 if you're going for dragon age origin.

Da2 isn't bad, it just isn't good enough.
da2 is the only bioware game that I only completed once and never played it again.

Seriously, what's up with all the hate towards rigormortis?

I just jumped in this thread to see if there was any productive discussion happening, but as soon as someone (rigormortis) tries to challenge opinions (if not to strengthen IT by questioning it), everyone in here goes berserk!

I hope IT is true, but sometimes those who are utterly convinced tend to gang-up on those who try to reveal the holes in the theory--again, if not only to strengthen it. Makes me kind of wish IT isn't true, so that IT-purists hating on others get crushed.

Even if the counter-arguments have been brought up before, it's unreasonable for everyone to stay up to date with a 1100 page thread.

This^

And I believe the answer to this is because it is written, and therefore liable to misinterpretation. Which happens A LOT in forums, especially this one. I remember a case where a pro IDT was bashed by other pro IDT's because they thought they posted a dumb anti-IDT argument when it wasn't. Even after countless posts that stated otherwise, that user was still argued against for a while. When one response goes awry, they tend to multiply exponentially. That's human psychology for you.

That, and a decent number of people seem to completely ignore other's calls for civility. People have gotten too invested in this, whether they acknowledge it or not. Heat of the moment posting, as it were.

Seriously, calm down people:wizard:
We don't want this to devolve from a scientific approach to a religious one that claims it's scientific.

I'll admit, I DID enjoy the DA2 demo....  I think I will have to pick it up at some point.  Besides, if I finish 2, then I might feel like I want to go back and complete Origins.  If I haven't finished Origins by then. :)

Me too. I had no idea FemShep existed. I got the game for cheap after friends recommended it and I've been in love ever since. <3

edit: I'm going to own that after playing DAII it's hard to go back to DAO since my character doesn't talk. You need two different mindsets to play those games.. Which was their mistake.

I would probably do the same if it was not for one thing.

I tend to always try and make the male look like me, so I feel like it's me out there.

I did it with dragon age, did it with mass effect, did it with skyrim, did it with new vegas.

not that it matters.   but I can see where your coming from.

Geez, sorry if I somehow insulted your family's honor or something.

Not sure how the "no point in getting a sequel to a game if you're going to get the first one" argument holds, but whatever. Though I'm also not sure why "it's not as good as this other game" is a solid reason not to get a game.

I enjoyed DA 2 on it's own merits, but it'ss not as epic as DA:O. I view it as the middle part of the story you need to get through to enjoy the end.

Exactly which is why I was not upset with the ending?! Because it's not actually over... :P How's DA3 coming anyway I should pop over to the DA2 forums..

It's odd, I've heard alot of people, like you and other people who just randomly got the game after a friend or something else telling them about it.

I saw the game in the store (me1 and 2)  and I just wanted a game, and at first I thought the game looked like a cheap ass game that probably sucked (judged by the cover of me1)  but I liked the m2 cover.

So I bought them both, and then I didn't get me1 to work on my pc, so I started on me2, and then I got me1 to work.

Femshep is delightful. She can be badass, hilarious, cute and seductive.

I cannot unsee broshep's raep face.

Though, I also can't unsee FemShep sitting open legged with that dress Kasumi bought.

It might be branded as a "sequel" but it sure doesn't feel like a sequel when you're playing it.
