Ask yourself a question. Did you have fun playing those games for those 5 years?
If you did, then you did not waste any time at all. See this as a opportunity to grow.

You make a fair point.
But while I did play each game for fun, the biggest reason I did multiple playthroughs was to see the different outcomes in ME3, as they repeatedly promised we would. The fact that the stupid RGB ending completely invalidates everything that came before it makes those extra playthroughs nothing more than a massive waste of my time. <_<  If I had know what was coming, I would never have sunk in as many hours as I did in the ME franchise. I'd have probably just bullrushed through the three games and forgotten about it as quickly as I could, with little to no emotional attachment to the universe Bioware created.

They may yet show us the consequences of our actions on out Squad mates and on the rest of the galaxy in the DLC. remember they said "clarification and closure".

@jadebaby88 -- HOLY CRAP! I thought it would be at least, fairly decent, I didn't expect it to be awsome, but, THAT WAS AWSOME! If your not already writing on a regular basis you should start.

I'm taking up video editing just so I can make this an alternate reality ending and maybe not feel so bad about all this.

It's not just the ending in itself, being a disappointment. sure, the game was great to a large part. but it was not just meant to be great...it was supposed to be something special, never seen before, and as such it was praised and marketed. "NO a,b,c ending" they said. "your previous choices will have dire ramifications" they said. They've said all those things, and as it turns out..they're only true for people whose imaginations are strong enough. i really don't want to be picky here, and i did not eypect every single fart from me2 or me 1 tot turn into a s**t storm in me 3. but here are some things i expected them to pick up on in me 3.

The intel you pick up on lorek which could mean bad news for cerberus if it ever became public knowledge. heard anything about it in me 3? I didn't.

What difference does it make whether you kill sidonis or spare him? No ramifications on garrus whatsoever. no ramifaications otherwise. none!

No consequences for having jacobs father killed or imprisoned. i did not like jacob anyways, but his came in me3 is jusg ridiculous. was ot just me, or was the conversation on the citadel odd as hell? Seemed to shep and jacob were totally uncomfortable with each other, not knowing what to say etc.

What's up with those firewalker mission? You pick up this prothean artifact in the end, which even ends up in your cabin in me 2...where is this thing, what is this thing? What's it purpose?

I could go on...but it would make the list even longer.

As i've said i'm not trying to be picky here. but why set up all these situations and then drop 'em like they never happened at all?

I've not given it much thought, probably wishful thinking here too. But I' hoping that the Extended Cut DLC will clarify WHY/HOW Shepard was indoctrinated. Lol. Perhaps they're pretty much hush hush now is because they don't wanna give the DLC's story away. Man, talk about denial...

I kind of posted it just to see whether I should bother to continue finishing it or not.

As for the Picture, I agree if you think that Shepard is alive and safe now, it makes me Posted Image because I'm happy.
if you think that Shepard is dying out and Liara is just there to comfort her as she passes I start Posted Image badly!

I was being a bit dramatic there . The idea is that these are not enemies you can fight with sticks and stones (at best both sides will be reduced to ashes). Unless they want to confirm that the Crucible is indeed a weapon.

BUT I am not in any way familiar with the lore of ME so I'd love to be enlightened and see any point of view.

Eh, still can't find the post, so I'll try to replicate it, even if my memory is a bit foggy now:

1. Even in the last Cycle, the Prothean where the conditions for the Reaper attack were absolutely perfect, the attack still lasted for hundreds of years and they've missed a LOT of stuff. So even with their "plan A", where they basically decapitate any resistance by jimping right to the Citadel and getting all the starcharts, shutting down Mass Relays and all that stuff, they still aren't the ultra-killing machines we've been told they are.
2. In this cycle their plan A was thwarted by Shepard and they lost on of their own (and a major one) in the process.
3. Then Shepard destroyed two of their prominent war assets - the Human Reaper and the Collectors with all their forces and technology.
4. Then he/she thwarted their "plan B" by destroying the Alpha Relay, giving the forces of the Galaxy even more time to unite and prepare. More than Protheans ever had, that's for sure.
5. He/she stopped the Synth/Organic war of this cycle and united the forces, which supposedly never happened in the last Cycle with Zha and Zha'Til.
6. He/she got Rachni, the only sentient space-fairing race to survive AT LEAST one Reaper invasion (might be even more) and extremely dangerous to the point of being the threat to the entire Galaxy.
7. He/she prevented the attempts to idoctrinate the Council, something that happened to the Prothean Empire.
8. He/she destroyed the rebel group Cerberus, who, in the Prothean Cycle, succesfully prevented the Crucible from being built.
9. He/she has united the fleets and armies in one massive battle, while Protheans were forced to sacrifice their own troops to prolong their existance.
10. This Cycle isn't about one united Empire, which was the case with Protheans and, apparently, with Those Who Came Before. Even Javik agrees that it might be difference enough to stop the Reapers.

So no one starves and it is already implied in the current ending.
IDT is the only thing that comes to my mind. What other theory could be implied in the current ending and save everyobdy from starvation?

Eh, wouldn't get my hopes up based on that. It might as well mean anything, from that they all had enough supplies to get to habitable planets on normal FTL to SPACE MAGIC MADE FOOD FALL FROM THE SKY!

likewise.

if I wanted to play a game for its gampleay, I'll pick Portal 2 without a second thought.

Mass effect was not a game that I played for it's gampeplay ( which is let's be honest quite standard, nor really good, not really bad ) .

Damn, even the crysis games have a bether gameplay in my opinion. ( that nano suit ) .

But something that ME had until the very last minutes and crunched all the orher games, was it's story, the possibility to inmerse yourself in it, make it your own.

Garrus was not just a bunch of polygons, little by little you start to really see him as your best bud !
Each Character was unique and with a HUGE Background.

Shepard was not just the main character, he was YOUR character.

What I could feel with Shepard I only felt it once before, with the very first Half Life.

Obvisously, Shepard is no Freeman, While the second follows a predetermined path with a predetermined isue, the second has a ever changing path that YOU could choose and make it your own in a way.

But all that just goes to the trash can with that ending, and that is wy I feel so depressed.

but you are right, I'm not going to just hide in a corner and cry, just for a game, life will go on for me.

But the fact that ME could have been THE most incredible experience I ever had just vanished with the last 5 minutes of the last episode remains.

And that is why I say that if things stay as they are, ME will be marked in my book as the most frustrating experience ever in a video game.

sorry for any mispelling.

Guys, what happened to "if they knew what's in store, they would hold on to their ME3 copies forever" (Gamble) and fans are "reacting before having all of the facts" (Merizan)? Can anyone explain that? After the announcement yesterday, I doubt many people will still be holding on to their ME3 copies...

Don't mark it as a frustrating thought but cherish it as something great. (:

Speaking of, there's another thing that kinda bothers me. Okay, for some handwaved reason Protheans couldn't have been made into a Reaper. But there WERE other species in their Cycle, right? They called themselves one empire, but they still weren't all the same. What happened to them? Were they just obliterated? And if not and they were made into Reaper Destroyers, why didn't Javik ever mentioned this? You'd think he'd know that...

The Protheans was the dominant species of their cycle.
They, in a way, enslaved the other species.
The Reapers found interest in the Protheans because of their dominance, just as the Reapers found Shepard and Humanity interesting in this cycle.
