Anti IT: How can this be? Where are you drawing all of this hope from?!
Prime IT: The theory evolves beyond what it was a minute before, little by little we add a bit more with each page, thats how a thread works!
Anti IT: That is the path that leads to delusion! Why cant you see the pathetic limitations of the Indoctrination Theory?!
Prime IT: No thats your limitation! You sit there closed of, denying all theories like some kind of king! Thats nobodys limitation but your own!
IT follower 1: Yeah, we Bioware gamers have something much greater than that, for IT sake alone well keep on moving forward!
IT Followerd 2: I stake everything on the greatness of IT too!
Prime IT: Mark my words, this theory will open a hole in the gamingverse and that hole will be a path for those behind us! The dreams of those who have fallen, the hopes of those who still follow! Those two sets of dreams weaved together into a single hope, creating a path towards tomorrow!
Prime IT: And thats Mass Effect! Thats Commander Shepard! Our theory is the theory, that creates the ending!
Guess where this comes from

Oh, just read the announcement about the "Extended Cut". So.. they're keeping the ending and only add some cutscenes and dialogues?
...so.. the godchild will remain?
That sucks.
We'll see later after their panel.

The child will remain, however, according to recent Twitter statements a happy ending will be achieveable.
Plotholes filled? Hopefully, but possibly not.

But seriously, I'm glad this thread is still going because unlike many others, everyone is in "wait and see" mode regarding the Extended Cut. Very logical and pragmatic of you all, even if I don't fully agree with IT.

I'd very much like to see that tweet. Because if you can, that would at least make up for some of the plotholes.

Yes, but aren't Reapers "ascending" all space-fairing species? They just don't trun them into their flagships like Habringer and Sovereign, but into Reaper Destroyers?DashingSplash wrote...
The Protheans was the dominant species of their cycle.
They, in a way, enslaved the other species.
The Reapers found interest in the Protheans because of their dominance, just as the Reapers found Shepard and Humanity interesting in this cycle.

I was being a bit dramatic there. The idea is that these are not enemies you can fight with sticks and stones (at best both sides will be reduced to ashes). Unless they want to confirm that the Crucible is indeed a weapon.
BUT I am not in any way familiar with the lore of ME so I'd love to be enlightened and see any point of view.
1. Even in the last Cycle, the Prothean where the conditions for the Reaper attack were absolutely perfect, the attack still lasted for hundreds of years and they've missed a LOT of stuff. So even with their "plan A", where they basically decapitate any resistance by jimping right to the Citadel and getting all the starcharts, shutting down Mass Relays and all that stuff, they still aren't the ultra-killing machines we've been told they are.
2. In this cycle their plan A was thwarted by Shepard and they lost on of their own (and a major one) in the process.
3. Then Shepard destroyed two of their prominent war assets - the Human Reaper and the Collectors with all their forces and technology.
4. Then he/she thwarted their "plan B" by destroying the Alpha Relay, giving the forces of the Galaxy even more time to unite and prepare. More than Protheans ever had, that's for sure.
5. He/she stopped the Synth/Organic war of this cycle and united the forces, which supposedly never happened in the last Cycle with Zha and Zha'Til.
6. He/she got Rachni, the only sentient space-fairing race to survive AT LEAST one Reaper invasion (might be even more) and extremely dangerous to the point of being the threat to the entire Galaxy.
7. He/she prevented the attempts to idoctrinate the Council, something that happened to the Prothean Empire.
8. He/she destroyed the rebel group Cerberus, who, in the Prothean Cycle, succesfully prevented the Crucible from being built.
9. He/she has united the fleets and armies in one massive battle, while Protheans were forced to sacrifice their own troops to prolong their existance.
10. This Cycle isn't about one united Empire, which was the case with Protheans and, apparently, with Those Who Came Before. Even Javik agrees that it might be difference enough to stop the Reapers.
Thank you for listing this.
I'm still contemplating on what to mak.... assuming direct control.
Just kidding.
[This is in the context of IT]
Shepard was making a difference, that much is true. Sure he's not infallible but he made enough impact to have the Reapers' eyes on him. But this worked both ways.
I'll roughly describe the reasons of why I think the Reapers were already winning during that last sequence and why they're not supposed to be defeated.
The Reapers were at advantage in both numbers and strength (there's no telling if those were all of them anyway, if it's mentioned somewhere then I'm sorry). They gained their strength from fallen enemies. They indoctrinated some and killed the others. They got stronger as their enemies got weaker. Even if the ground force were defeated, what would they make of those Harbinger and Sovereign-class Reapers? There were quite a few (thousands) of them.
Thessia and Palaven were decimated. Earth was hanging by a thread. Shepard, by all account could've been dead or incapacitated in that last blow before the conduit. What hope is there without him? Even if the battle on Earth was going to be won, they would still probably lose the rest of the galaxy, seeing as the fleet were mostly concentrated on Earth.
So without a superweapon, it's pretty hard to see how they're going to tip the balance given the situation. Plus I doubt that Shepard would wake up, only to go through the whole ordeal of 'pushing the button' again (for real this time?).
And the most important thing - if you notice the whole tale was not about defeating the Reapers (regardless of what
And all those things that Shepard did are all the more reasons for the Reapers to reconsider the fate of the galaxy.
Man, taking the ending on face value would be 100 times easier... Sorry if this post looks like a bad rambling. I'm really cold right now so my thoughts are not coherent.

Though if it is, then I'd like a bit more gameplay (maybe fighting another Reaper or something) than just long cinematics
