The scene serves as a "gotcha" moment for the player. It's a clue to what happened. The prominent N7 tags that Anderson gave you show the player its shepard, and the cables are associated with reaper control, they hint at an indoctrination attempt.

I'm not saying the rubble is asset reuse, just that groove. It's an easy addition to add texture to a flat plane.

I don't know about that first part but I can't really prove otherwise.

Reusing the grove seems unnecessary. If they wanted the player to figure it out at this point they're doing a terrible job. Why put objects there that weren't supposed to be there in the first place?

How does Shepard survive something that approximates a 100 kilaton nuke? Which is a bigger screw up, that or reusing an inconspicous groove pattern on some out of place rubble?

Calling it a nuke is a bit extreme though.

There is a picture that floats around here that shows the center of the citadel engulfed in a fireball. But what's not shown is the Citadel just half a second after that. The rings where the explosion seems to come from is still in tact. If the force of the explosion was as great as a nuke, that part of the citadel would have been torn to peices.

Could it be that is was left over energy from the blast from the crucible?

It was enough force to move one of the arms of the citadel! I'd say nuke is about right cinsidering how large the citadel is. Again, the citadel is made from a "resilient material".

Right but have you seen the hindges that hold the arms to the ring? They don't look like they can hold much stress.

"The station's hull is sufficiently strong that, even when subjected to
the most advanced weaponry available, it would take several days of
sustained bombardment to inflict any serious damage to the
superstructure."

Yeah I am sure those hinges are really weak...maybe in comparision to the rest of the station, but we are still talking material which is virtually indestructable to the Mass Effect universes level of weaponry...and that explosion which Shepard supposedly survived ripped that apart. Yeah he could totally survive that.

The thing that causes the explosion, i.e. the type, i.e. 'nuke', has nothing to do with it. TNT is the basis for all explosive measurements. 'Kiloton' is non-negotiable, and simply means the explosive effect produced by one thousand tons of TNT, 4.184×1012 J. :o

Ha. These past couple of posts are reminiscent of Bigfoot discussions on the Internets. I like all the pictures with circles drawn on them.
I think the case for cables from the Citadel being the bed Shepard is lying on/that are beside her is a solid argument but so are the bars from earth. Does anyone have a good quality image of the pipes/bars/whatever from the Shepard's breath scene?

The only stress that the hinges would be under is the impact of the bomb, because  it was in a 0 gravity atmosphere.

It really sucks that the Reapers got control of/destroyed most if not all the nuclear missiles/silos on Earth. Otherwise that Reaper invasion would've been over quick...nothing like a gigantic EMP/Nuke to mess with an army of synthetics. Of course launching every nuke on the planet at once was probably never a good idea.

With all this talk about the explosion, I would like to know what actually blew up and caused the explosion? The Crucible?

If it was the Crucible that caused the explosion, why are there also randomly other explosions on the arms, far away from the Crucible?

If it wasnt the Crucible, what the hell was it?

It was the crucible, if you look at an HD video of it you see the crucibles debris fly from the explosion. The citdel is exploding because that ending destroys reaper tech/relays, the citadel is reaper tech, and a relay.

I'm just guessing here but...

The citadel is both a relay itself and controls the relays somehow. I just sort of assumed the space magic beam from the crucible (magnified by the citadel arms) overloaded the system and it started exploding.

Except the video I was watching was this one, just because I happened to have it open in another tab.

There are still the random explosions along the arms, and that ending doesnt destroy technology.

Then why doesnt the space magic destroy it in Control?

I don't know why it would be exploding in that ending, more evidence that the kid lies?

There isn't a space magic beam in Control, just that initial space magic wave that washes over London. Eventually that wave reaches the relay and blows it up.

www.youtube.com/watch (2 minutes for the space magic)

PS: how do you link a word instead of the whole URL like you did that last post?

Hmm, the crucible just closes, it just sends out the control signal?

Which begs the question... in control why would a control signal overload a relay?... its a signal nothing else.

I dont agree with relays being destroyed to be honest. but about control severely damaging the relays simply coz of a signal?.

Never heard of a radio tower exploding because someone yelled into the microphone too loud.

He must be sitting on some rubble because if you look at bottom right of the picture, you see his leg positioned at an almost perpendicular angle to his body, which would suggest that he is lying against a surface that is not flat.

btw wth are those cables on the right of the screen?... or are those concrete reincforce bars. For some reason they look weird there.

Indeed, the other two endings seem to "overload" the relays, so the signal would have to trigger an entirely different means of destruction.

I think its a reaper cable. Me, EpyonX3, and a few others had a big debate about it a page or two back if you wanna check it out.

It's confusing, they seems to resemble reaper cables, but the debris looks like Earth debris.

It's not confusing... since it's concrete rebar.

And yes, I said I was going to bed, but apparently the thing I'm working on may take me all night :pinched: and I am taking a momentary break to maintain my sanity.

It's not rebar! Why do you insist on calling it that? This is coming from a pro-ITer (or whatever we're called).

EDIT: Sorry, shouldn't try and drag you into a debate. Get back to work!

I wonder what Gamble would say if we asked whether it's rebar or cable. He'd prob'ly just ignore us though... >.>
