How many times have you gone skydiving? Not that many, I bet. That's because most peop,e weigh up the chance of being killed skydiving against the thrill, and decide the odds aren't worth it. Skydiving is suitably dangerous that we can see the odds effect our judgement.

Now, to go back to the plane. (no real statistics here, this is purely illustrative). If the odds of dying on a plane were one in ten, how many plane rides would you take? You might die on the first, but it's unlikely. How about the second? the third? How about the 578,321st? Exactly when do you stop playing the odds? Reason tella us once you pass 10 you're on borrowed time. It's the same for the Reapers, the numbers are just MUCH MUCH bigger.

And if that is the case doesn't that mean that the reapers did exactly what they are trying to stop in the first place? Also why is the star child living on the citadel? Where did he come from? How did he create the reapers?

Well, all your questions are irrelevant. I was only concerned with the logic of starkid's statement (whether it's paradoxical or not). In my opinion it is not. I do not attempt here moral or "common sense" evaluation of his reasoning (whether it's the right or wrong choice).

This is the only time I've seen a vent in the game. It would make sense that if this label were for vents then we wouldn't see it anymore.

The problem I have is that people are saying that Bioware specifically put that sticker there to show that the vent itself was dangerous. Due to housing electrical wires, fans and such. But why even put that there? Why would we care if the vent was dangerous or not? If there goal was to make it realistic.. why would there be a need to a danger sign next to an open vent...a vent that should be closed and prevented from being opened at all (if the technology is so amazing)

Not to mention it's at exactly crawling height ;0 Who the hell puts an electrified vent that low down without a cover. Also, what the hell is an electrified vent?

There are already enough risks with dating... don't make me have to think about dieing of a heart attack too.

What exact point are you trying to make dante?

The point I was trying to make is that no matter how small the odds are of synthetics destroying organics, the Reapers live (essentially) for ever. Therefore it WILL happen, eventually. They don't get another shot after that, so they have to intervene. People aren't taking the lifespan into account.

it' like this rather neat video of Dawkins. he gets someone to correctly predict the outcome of a coint toss 8 times (unlikely). But because of the odds, you see that it's not just likely, it's absolutely CERTAIN that it'll happen, every single time. Here

 

The low odds must be weighed against how many times it can happen.

...what are you talking about? I'm not saying synthetics are more likely to cause war :S In fact, as far as I'm concerned the Quarians were a bunch of idiots who treated a very kind people horribly. It is NOT a war of synthetics versus organics. (unless you count the reapers but theyre neither so).

My point was that due to the inherent predjudice of people, whether synthetic or organic, war is a strong possibility when AI is first made, due to civil rights issues. People either try to restrict the Ai, so war, or the AI will see people as inferior, so war. Coexistence is absolutely another possibilty.

I don't think you're understanding my reasoning here :S

EDIT: I missed out on the discussion about each class' strengths from about 20 pages ago. I play Vanguard in single-player, and can agree with (I think) byne's assertion that being a Vanguard is basically easy mode. Charge + Nova rock.

I've been away for a couple of months (still am) so haven't been able to play ME3 since I finished it (day before I left). I really want to play some multiplayer; any specific classes people can recommend? I generally prefer using powers to weapons if possible (otherwise we might as well all be Soldiers really), and the only class I've ever promoted was a human Adept. Singularity Warp bombs are awesome.
