I took a break from this thread for a couple of weeks, and it's grown 500+ pages lol..

Just thought I'd chime in and shout "INDOCTRINATION FTW!"

Youtube the 2nd dream, Shepard is not sleeping and is IN FACT standing up with a datapad in his/her hand... Dream 2 is a hallucination, not a dream.

Looks to me like Shepard was sitting in bed and dozzed off.

He was sitting at his desk.

Another weird thing about the dreams.. why would the star child sometimes be laughing/look menacing (in the 3rd dream)? If it was just a nightmare induced by feelings of guilt, wouldn't Shep just see the child die again and again? But in the 3rd dream, at the ending the kid looks really - satisfied.. in an evil way...

That kid is evil I tells ya.  EEEEEVIIILLL.
Grandpa, you said that about all Shepards dreams.
I just want attention.

Take this object, but beware, it carries a terrible curse.

Alright, this has to be said.

BioWare is doing everything possible to make the ending seem literal while NEVER outright denying the IT. They mentioned it once and they haven't mentioned it again. Here they are giving us all these little hints that literal ending is the way to go.

Well, that kinda spoils the EC doesn't it?

I think it's clear what's happening here. They're trying to get people to avoid IT at all costs, and it's working in a lot of cases.

Yep, they wanted a good twist and we pretty much ruined it.

I just wish there was a way we could be "in on it", you know?

Just to 2:02  and you can see the wine glass on the table in front of him as he sits up to his left.  If he were at his desk the wine glass would be to his right.

I agree and disagree.  How do you like that?

I'd love to know that IT is true, but it would also spoil EC if it were.

Even though I believe IT, I want to be surprised when EC comes out.

Hey, something a little different.

Has anyone of you ever played another game that had a really unsatisfying ending?

The only one I can think of is Dreamfall.. but that wasn't as bad because the ending made sense and fit into the universe, it just was a real downer and let some questions open

I love this thread. It keeps my hopes up, not for this ending, not for a new ending, but for a consistent ending that makes sense.

KotOR 2 had a pretty unsatisfying ending.

Thats mostly because it wasnt even close to finished when they were forced to release it though.

Deus Ex invisible War.
Four choices. All of them sucked hard. Didn't help that the game itself sucked hard.

I hade 1 or 2 games I din't really like the endings, but not cause they were totaly unfitting or out of place.. only cause I dind't like how the storys ended..
ANd I had games were I liked the endings pretty much, even they were pretty sad.
But I must admit, I was never so deep invested in a character like Shep.

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) was a REAL downer. Made me damn near depressive.

As @byne mentioned, Kotor 2 was disappointing. (But it wasn't made by Bioware, so I try not to compare it to ME3).

i had a long list, but mass effect makes all those other endings look good.

also its usually not just the ending that sucks- its almoat always the whole game as well, and in mass effect its just such a HUGE  contrast  that only enhances the terriblness of the ending.

With KOTOR 2 I felt let down as well.  The ending explanation never really satisfied me, especially about the part about the Exile withdrawing from the force, etc.  I guess, I didn't get too upset because I felt like a 3rd KOTOR was a certainty.

So I really didn't get closure on KOTOR until I read the story portion of The Old Republic and the fate of the Exile and Revan.  So several years later, I have closure I guess.

Btw, a bit of shameless Dreamfall-promoting:

very pretty piece of music...

just don't listen all the vid.. there is a huge piece of silence after the piano bit and then a freaky noise, so you might want to close it when the silence starts.

and one we arent going to see coming in the EC

However unpleasant, it's much better to have a cliffhanger ending and hope for the next full game (several hours of next-generation high-quality gameplay/cinematics) than a complete ending (a few additional minutes of gameplay/cutscenes) with no need for a continuation.

They won't change now, even if IDT is right. Too much effort, too many resources, and they arent that petty.

Morever, we don't know, IDT is a THEORY, meaning that it's still a twist, and still not ruined. When the EC comes out and confirms IDT, then we'll get the same rush of accomplishment at having guessed it as we would if it were a surprise.

Well, not actual happy pills, I am depressed, but at the moment my excuse is that it's Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD, how apropos) so I pop alot of vitamin D. Also, the major thing making me doubt IDT right now is Gamble's twitter. I can rationalize it away, but could someone ask him if his statement was merely taking the stuff from the game, and not inside knowledge?

Bull****. If you didn't mean it as "let's prove the other side is ****** kids" you wouldn't have asked for IT belief status along with age.

I was actually hoping you would pop up... you have been incredibly aggressive with anything and anyone either disputing IT, or trying to create a debate, and have now proved my point. Glad to see you still live up your childish standards, but I am warning you, keep this aggressive behaviour and you could be reported for bullying and harassment, the boards are for discussions, not your personal playground.

But thanks for clearing that up (to the rest that answered about their age range).

Stop baiting him.

You haven't been any better with your clear consescension, mudslinging (childish? surely you can do better than THAT.) and general attitude.

I won't deny you've attempted politeness, and at least try to keep your arguments coherent, but despite claiming to take the moral high road, you have been just as agressive as Rifneno.

No, this forum is NOT his personal playground, neither is it yours, for you to say what you want.

spotless had the right of it quite well, this is (since your crowd seems so insistent in compating us to religious fanatics) the IDT church, and quite simply, you do not waltz into a church, calling the parishonoers idiots for their beleifs and try to convert them, if you want to be heard, you attend Sunday school and become that obnoxious kid in the back row the teacher hates because you ask the hard questions.

I think I lost control of that metaphor.

Fallout 3, terrible ending.  A ton of older console games had bad endings.  Halo 2.  People argue Half Life 2 had a bad ending though I liked it.  Metal Gear Solid 2.  Some of the final fantasies.  Monkey Island 2 is hated by many.  Another one people didn't like was Alan Wake, but that's another one I personally loved.  And of course, KotOR 2 due to Lucas Arts rushing it out the door.
