It's one thing I loved in the beginning of ME3, picking out a gift for Ashley, first time around I bought it all, figuring I could just bury her in chocolates, roses and her favorite poets, then I discovered you only get to give her one, so I had to figure out the perfect gift.
The complete Tennyson.
She was surprised I remembered.
I totally missed the gift terminal my first time through the game.
There is a gift terminal?? what the.... where?

At that point, without altering his established character from the book, Saren would most definitely not be interested in explaining himself to Shepard. In ME1, he did because he was trying to sway Shepard off his course and to his cause. If he doesnt stand to directly gain something from it, he wont ever justify himself to anyone. Additionally, he is as lone wolf as you can get. He hates working with anybody. Cant say much more than that without giving things away from the book...
Really? Because on Virmire I got the distinct feeling that he is perfectly willing to share his motivations if the person he is speaking to is one he can see as an equal, like Shepard, rather than merely trying to sway him to his cause. Saren also struck me as being incredibly charismatic, the sort of fellow quite used to getting things done his way. As for being a lone wolf... well I never said he had to be a WILLING squad mate. Survival is a pretty good motivator ( the idea being he's only on Shepard's crew because A he owes him for saving his "life" by vouching for him, and B because anywhere else he goes, he'll be killed, return to Palaven, killed by the Turian Military, return to the Citadel, killed by C-Sec for twice as many reasons as usual, return to the Reapers? Killed for being defective. It's willingness and more desperation to me, mutual survival, which could make for a very interesting dynamic.
I dont entirely trust his "character" in ME1 since at that point, he is already under significant reaper influence. Additionally, I still feel he had ulterior motives for explaining himself to Shepard. Charismatic? Probably. But he wielded that charisma like a Phantom wields its blade into your abdomen in multiplayer. Aside from that, I'll let you draw your own conclusions when you read the book.

It's the same terminal that you later purchase the medi-gel capacity upgrades from. The gifts are only available the first couple of times you visit the hospital.

Bah.
Besides, in my opinon, some of the most interesting characters Bioware has done are the ones they had to squeeze to make fit. (coughsarevokcough)

When I originally made that comment about a Batarian or other "angry/vindictive yet hilarious" squadmate, the example that came to mind for me was Shale. Shale fit that archetype perfectly. I think a Batarian could also fit that same role, but there are other possibilities. Given that ME has never gone with that archetype for a squadmate, I think it would be a great addition.

Seconded. But I still think ME needs a Sarevok.

I'd love me some TIM avatar. Tried it, didn't work using Dragon Age CC.
Bioware, Y U NO have official TIM avatar?

Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man could be the narrator of my life and I'd never get tired of it.

Also, I'm eagerly awaiting the day when I'll be in a situation where I can dramatically gesture with my hand and exclaim "But I can!" to somebody. God I love that line. So much emotion and story in just those three words.

Remember that it takes quite a lot of development time and money to put a character in a ME game where player's actions throughout the storyline are reflected in NPC's responses (+ in ME3 NPCs interact with each other more than ever). BioWare had to carefully choose which to include as prominent characters. Otherwise, the sheer number of possibilities would be unbearable from the implementation standpoint.

Back on topic, I saw in a youtube comment earlier today that someone pointed out that the Illusive Man's theme music doesnt play during the final confrontation with him. Does anyone think that could be a point for IT? I'm not completely sure, but if I had to choose, I'd say yes. I cant recall ever seeing TIM at any other time when his theme music was NOT playing (though please do correct me if I'm wrong).
Hmm, potentially. It could also be a point for literalist, a subtle hint that he's "not there anymore" but It could also be a hint he's just not there at all.

Uh.. as his theme is rather uplifting, I don't think it would fit the scene.. but.. maybe a distorted, dark version of the theme would have been pretty awesome

Nice catch. The lore is that you use the Leitmotiv or some variation (minor-ize it to fit the mood of the scene) of it no matter when the character appears. And it didn't play then.
Did it play on Thessia?

Probable but Shepard's never met him in person before. It was always through some comm device.

Maybe its just differing opinions but I dont think his theme is uplifting. I think it fits his character rather well. I think it would have been appropriate to at LEAST play his theme song during the final paragon/renegade check when you're trying to talk him into shooting himself instead of Anderson. Instead we get a generic (though still good) suspense theme. Missed opportunity? Or hint that it's not TIM?
