I see a few people have been discussing pen and paper games.
My brother, sister and I had planned on making a Fallout PNP game, but fate seems to have intervened. :(

Great, now I haz a sad! :([/quote]

I'm sure your brother will be fine.

Or fined, one or the other.

I know that he'll be fine, it's just that it was supposed to be great weekend for us three, that has now gone down the drain.
See, my sister is in the military, so we don't get to see her that much, and this weekend she is on leave, so we had planned on doing a bunch of stuff together, that we unfortunately can't do now!

That's part of the reason why I'm sad!

Right, I made a draft of a Arian-style Wall-o-Text I made it response to some off-hand mention of nanides but never bothered to finish. Basically it argued that there was an 'indoctrination' spectrum. On one hand there's the subliminal suggestion and psychological conditioning. On the other, 'mechanical' indoctrination by cybernetic graft, nanotech infection, or posibly spooky action at a distance*. Saren, TIM, Benezia, and according to IT Shepard were indoctrinated more on the subliminal end. Paul Grayson, ME3 Cerberus goons, endgame Saren and TIM, and all manner of husks reside on the mechanical end.

Mechanical indoctrination is fast and allows the reapers to ASSUME DIRECT CONTROL but predictably causes collateral damage that impairs the subject's faculties. Subliminal takes time and subtelty, but the subject retains more of their intelligence and autonomy.

Mechanical indoctrination creates puppets. Subliminal indoctrination creates pawns. Both have their strengths, faults and places in the reapers' agenda.

*Since the protheans were capable of transalien wireless neural interface, I've no doubt the Reapers could do the same with even greater range and sophistication. It still constitutes a form of mechanical indoctrination according to my spectrum.

Don't forget, Saren has grafts of the mechanical variety too, his entire arm was lifted from a Geth. He's also had extensive synthetic modification, Shepard possibly too, had reaper tech integreated into his implants, but perhaps indoctrinatio would be more obvious if that were the case.

Hence why I said spectrum. Still, the apparent symptoms of Saren's indoctrination appear more subliminal than mechanical, at least until the final confrontation*.

I also don't think Shepard was integrated with reaper technology, as I said before. If it was really the case, then why haven't the reapers taken some form of control over Shepard before the end of ME3? Maybe there wasn't a sufficient 'population' or reaper nani(t/d)es to cause nearly the effects we see Paul Grayson suffer but still. Also, the whole bit with Miranda about the control chip suggests to me that TIM wasn't indoctrinated, and wasn't willing to risk Shepard being indoctrinated. Remember, TIM was aware of the phenomenon, and presumably how it is manifested and contracted. Then again, there's no hard evidence against Shepard being infected on some level.

Maybe in the case of Saren, TIM and Shepard the cybernetics induced subliminal indoctrination instead, which seems more likely. As for how TIM or Shepard goes so long without succumbing to indoctrination, well, I have an idea. If you're gonna turn someone into a pawn, you have to break down their psychological defences.

Both TIM and Shepard are shown to be highly driven and self confident individuals, at least until the end of ME2/begining of ME3 respectively. When Shepard goes off the rails, either by destroying the Collector base or turning themself in to the Alliance, TIM really dove into the deep end. Experimenting with live reaper technology and the like. For Shepard, it's kind of obvious how the reapers' are breaking him/her down. Once the subjects are weakened, then the reapers' influence really starts to dig in.

Unfortunately I know there is evidence that points to TIM being at least lightly indoctrinated well before ME2. The Pragia facility, Project Overlord and the research team on the derelict reaper are all suspicious in motive and method. Pragia/Overlord both mirror the reapers' agenda of integrating mass effect and cybernetic technology to the human form. TIM must have already known the danger of indoctrination before sending Chandana in.

On the flipside, they could mean that because of his hubris and extremist transhuman leanings that TIM was more easily/thoroughly/effectively indoctrinated.

I don't know what else to say on the matter so... umm... discuss?

*Didn't Saren say that between Virmire and the Citadel that Sovereign gave him 'upgrades'?

I say sequel, why? Because imagine it. It's about 5 years post ending of ME3, Shepard, the only man to have defeated indoctrination, the hero of Earth, the victor who brought the Reaper fleet crashing to it's knees is done bebopping about the galaxy has retired, promoted to the rank of Admiral and leads the First fleet in honor from abord his flagship, the Normandy, the slowly rebuilding council, still fighting off massive pockets of Reaper resistance on each and every planet they take back, finding more and more horrors everywhere they go, Anderson is now the defacto leader of the Alliance military, Hackett has become leader of the new parliament, overseeing the reconstruction of Arcturus station, TIM is still at large, rebuilding his forces for Cerberus to rise again, giving everyone the implication that the new Cerberus is a seperate group from the old. Aria is again re-establishing herself as leader of Omega, Wrex is slowly building the Krogan into a superpower, a major part of galactic society, leading the council to worry they may be bucking for a council seat soon, Thessia slowly re-asserts itself, reeling from the knowledge that their early history is nothing like what it thought, Liara returns to her position as Shadow Broker, shoring up governments as they re establish themselves behind the scenes, Garrus takes a position as the new Primarch of Palaven after Victus retires from the loss of his son,

Sounds like just the sort of Galaxy in need of a new spectre, doesn't it? Dealing with the mess?

Comes to think of it, the humans have never had a charismatic political leader (Udina naturally doesn't count). I mean the Krogan have Wrex, the Turian Hierachy works strict and simple (Garrus will be as you said the next Primarch) and for the Salarian and Asari, well they are typically the races that masters politics (I could imagine Liara as councelor or Asari leader in maybe 600-700 years), but the humans ?

Hackett is a great military leader but he's old and IMO better in an AHQ (he could lead the parliament for a little while though) and we already seen how many difficulties Anderson has had as Councilor... So who ? It was always intriguing for me...

A new Spectre doesn't suppose a new threat ?
