I personally just though;

"Hmm, who is the best tech specialist we got?" Decided on Tali.

Then  "who is the second most able leader after me?" Well Miranda suguessted it, and it's in her ability tree so...

Then I decided "ok who is the nastiest mother****er when it comes to biotics?, Either Jack or Samara..." So I chose Samara for it.

And I already just knew Mordin would die unless you sent him back.
[...]

On my first playthrough I was like:
Tech? Obviously Tali.
Leader? Obviously Garrus.
Escort? Yeah bb Jack.
Biotic Shield? Hello Samara.
Then picked Mordin and Kasumi for the final part.

For the BecomeAReaper enums: it doesn't mean anything towards the IT. Could just mean Shep becomes a Reaper that bosses other Reapers around.

That's really cool.  I would tell you that English weather isn't always like this, but for the last two weeks it has been! Southampton is lovely, a friend just completed a masters in chemistry there. What are you going to study?

And it definitely is the worst morning out of the three, closely followed by 'the dog has eaten/vomited in my shoes'.

Computer science.. so, Bachelor of science

I just found this in another thread:

Taken from a post from gibbed on the Something Awful forums, this is the way the endings are described in the game's code:
enum EEndGameOption
{
EGO_ReapersDestroyedEarthDestroyed,
EGO_ReapersDestroyedEarthDevastated,
EGO_ReapersDestroyedEarthOk,
EGO_ReapersDestroyedEarthOkShepardAlive,
EGO_BecomeAReaperAndEarthDestroyedAndReapersLeave,
EGO_BecomeAReaperAndEarthOkAndReapersLeave,
EGO_HarmonyOfManAndMachine,
EGO_Demo,
EGO_None,
EGO_MAX,
}

notice how for the Control ending it says BECOME A REAPER. Not become the Catalyst or become a being of light, no, become a f*cking Reaper.

The thing that bothers me about this great find is the line 'HARMONYofManAndMachine'  could this mean the devs saw synth. as the best ending? Someone please, for love of the goddess, shoot some holes in my thought process.

I still don't buy synthesis as an option. Everything I know about human physiology tells me that while synthetics may have their own 'version' of DNA, it isn't the same - the two simply wouldn't combine. It would be like force-feeding a cheeseburger to a Quarian: it would not end well. Besides which, garrus and FemShep discuss adoption for a reason - they aren't compatible, DNA or no DNA. So what's the chances synthetics can amalgamate with such a diverse set of species all at once, particularly using Shep's DNA as a standpoint?

And no, cybernetics in my view doesn't count - they work subservient to your own system, not in partnership. Starkid's explanation of the union makes zero sense.

Hope that does the job :-)

I'd go crazy if I find out the devs meant synthesis to be the best ending.

Agree, agree, and agree. But do the devs.? I'm probably reading to much into a single word. Especially since it's just a file name. I'd just feel better if it said something like 'melding of', or 'joining of' or 'combining of' instead of 'HarmonyOfManAndMachine.

DNA wasn't meant literally, DNA was just a comparison to simplify stuff it.

I'm sorry to do this to you, but is there dialogue which says it was not meant literally? Otherwise I'll continue to believe my assertion. If there is something I missed please show me, I'd be very interested :-)

It was stated that what they saw as "perfect" (they did the quotation mark on purpose as it isn't perfect at all but the best you can achieve) ending is achievable with only SP with a good amount of leeway months before the game was released. Meaning the Devs think of Synthesis as the best.

An assertion with no backing.  And even then, it answers nothing and leaves more questions.  Questions which can pretty much only be answered with "because space magic".

It was a simplification of what it means by a new framework... else it would just have left out that part. If it were meant literally it wouldn't even work on Turians or Quarians.

They also said tons of things that are simply untrue with these endings.  The Rachni playing a huge part in the final battle, endings not being able to be categorized as A, B, C, that we'd get answers to everything about the Reapers (and Protheans, for some reason), that there's a "Reapers win" ending...

And taking that assertion at 'face value' (I'm rapidly learning to hate that phrase), what did they mean? As Rifneno said, any other meaning would leave us with the ever-dubious 'because I said so' defence.

So if they didn't use Shep's DNA, what did they use? Her soul? Her tissue? Because that's beginning to big time blur the lines between sci-fi based on current knowledge (there was a discussion on that earlier in the thread - a good read and I suggest you have a look if you haven't seen it) and 'the pixies did it'.

Anything that utilised Shep's body as a framework for synthesising organic and synthetic life would be using one species as it's main building block - and the vast differences between humans and Quarians, Turians and even Hanar suggest that without throwing them into the beam too most of the new 'harmonious creations' would have a shelf life of about ten minutes.

Too many inverted commas there, but ah well. Hopefully it illustrates my healthy cynicism when it comes to this subject.

The Catalyst pauses before saying "DNA", as if thinking of a way to phrase it that you can relate to.

The rest I agree with. Synthesis is nonsense.

At best it's a perceived harmony from the Catalyst's POV (and we know he's hardly infallible), or a trick.
