I never thought that auditory emulators were built into your armor. I thought it was a ship and vehicle thing.
But if it is in the suit then why not? Not all of Shepard's body was charred either, look at his face and neck. Not much damage there.
Well Cortez mentions he relaxes by turning off the auditory emulators and watching ships go by in silence. He does it at the docking bay of the Citadel.
I doubt the workers at the docking bay or his superiors on ships would just let him turn the auditory emulators off it it was something built into the station or into the ships.
Nah, Cortez talks about how he USED to turn them off when he still was a fighter pilot, when he was stationed at arcturus! This alludes to the fact that auditory emulators are built into spacecrafts, not combat suits!

But wait. Doesn't that imply that the other side of the glass is vacuum? The atmosphere should be on that close to ground level on the citadel. Are the emulators something different?

I think we finally got back to discussing IT, and the idea is you ehar screams and gunfire on the citadel, which adds fuel to the idea that you're not on the citadel, but on earth with soldiers fighting around you, much like incorporating an alarm clock into your dreams.
See my post above.
Also those aren't screams, it is the sound of the Eezo stream coming from the crucible. It has a slight variation to that of the beam on earth.
The crucible is not docked with the Citadel at that point.
Wait, where are you talking about then, before or during the TIM scene?
Right before the scene!
Ahh then I take my comment back. I'll have to listen again. Music off correct?

It would be awesome if someone could stick up a YouTube clip of Shepard turning circles right before he talks to Anderson. Just sayin'.
Here you go. But turn it up on 720p. And it goes from 0:00 to 0:23 sec. And close your eyes!

I can hear something in between the sparks but I don't think it's screaming. The only other thing I hear is Shepard's feet.

Thanks a lot, Max! I don't hear anything, though. I'll listen a few more times.
EDIT: I do hear a couple of low-pitched groans, or something close to that. Can't say I hear any gunshots, though.

Even during the talk with the Illusive man, you can still hear the shooting/arcing lightning in the background.

Replay the beginning of Mass Effect. Remember the shriek that you can hear if you mute out the music when the boy's transport gets blown up on Earth? It's all in Shepard's head. I am now convinced that Bioware intended indoctrination.

I don't know if Shep ever *fully* recovered from the Lazerus project, His brain may have gotten scrambled a bit but it was all in one place. Perhaps they did have to push some grey matter back in place before starting his heart again. I don't know, but I do know that helmets fit snuggly around your head and there is no open space between your brain and skull besides fluid.
I wouldn't be surprised if they had to pull skull fragments from his brain, the point is its all in one place and "they had the technology"
So when we tear down or justify Shepards brain being in a state that can be rebuilt wey're guessing. I can justify or refute Synthesis the same way. Either way we're speculating. Now one could probably argue Synthesis requires a bigger stretch and leap of logic than reorganizing a squishy brain, but given the videos in ME3 we don't even know if Shepard is a living breathing human with certainty.
Again, I think the trick is that Shepard's rebirth moved the story along, and it feels to many that Synthesis does no such thing right in the middle of what felt like an unsatisfying end.
At the core of my point, besides loving to debate for no good reason, is that whether or not Synthesis makes 'sense' doesn't support or detract from IT, it's just another sci fi gimmick. My biggest issue with Synthesis isn't that it's hand wavy, it's that it is precisely what was described by Saren when he talked about worshipping the Reapers.

I'm not sure though. What I thought were low-pitched groans on the first clip sound more like some kind of after-effect (or maybe an echo) from the electrical arcs. Maybe it's just me. I want to hear this really bad.

That does sound like it could be a battle. I won't go so far as to say it is beyond a doubt a battle, but it certainly sounds a lot like one.

Is it possible even the run towards the conduit isnt actually happening? I mean, a blind charge towards the conduit with a Reaper precision blasting all your troops is hardly the kind of tactic I'd expect from Admiral Anderson.
More like the tactics I'd expect from Sarge.
I noticed right before the conduit charge, you're talking to Anderson inside a troop transport, when suddenly the transport you're in shakes violently and the game cuts to black.
The very next scene, not even explaining what caused the shaking is this:

If you'll notice, the area they're standing has the same type of rubble Shepard is lying in at the end, including that one weird cord at the far right. Its even darker than the area near the beam, just like it is in the end. The Mako looking thing in the end could also just be the remains of the transport you were in.

Hm, if, as someone mentioned, the gunshots in London are interpreted as something similar in the dream, it is not in between the sparks, it is the sparks.

It's sounds definitely like gunfire and there is sort of husk scream that is repeated. Thing is the gunfire is more like coming from ship's cannons than smgs or assault rifles bursts...MaximizedAction wrote...

No, you are hearing correctly, that's the point, this is how Shepard is interpreting the sounds of battle taking place around his unconsious body(assuming he is unconsious and still on earth)ExtendedCut wrote...

"It's what Saren wanted" is only the first thing I have to think of to stay away from synthesis.
