Exactly, and the reason you only get that video if you choose destroy the Reapers is because thats the only choice where Shepard keeps his resolve to defeat the Reapers no matter what. In the other two he gives up, and decides some form of compromise would be best.

I was weirded out by the fact that my squad was nowhere to be seen, and the pistol had infinite ammo. Also, one shot bringing down the Illusive Man, who was clearly extremely altered by the Reapers, Grayson style. And, obviously, the Guardian existing at all.

Although, honestly, I'd be pretty pissed off if it turns out that was a dream sequence. I paid $74.14 for everything but the the ending of the game? No thanks.

Free DLC - "Wake up!" introducing new endings that make your choices matter!! HOOZAH

That's a nice pipe dream to have anyway.

Until this day, I'll just stick to my headcanon.

Epic showdown between Harbinger and Shepard where you find a gun that shoots cosmic space rays that destroys Reapers while the Cruicible charges. Once you cripple Harbinger, it goes off sending a signal that deactiveates all Reapers in the process.

Later, Garrus and Shepard have a drink to celebrate victory and after that, you get it on with Tali one last time...

Yup. I like my ending better than what we have now. If there's an official canon ending, I don't want it unless it's fixed. Until then, I'm fine lingering in imagination land which is apparently where they got the crappy endings we have now.

I wish so badly that this is true! It'd be such a cruel trick from Bioware, but I'll be so relieved and happy if this was some planned PR bit. Make all the fans truly angry and realize HOW MUCH was at stake and the worst possible outcome.... aaaaand then: a second chance to avoid it from becoming a reality.

But then again... if this was true, how does Bioware expect to "inject" the true ending? What about people who don't have internet? If they had wanted to do this all along, they should have made the real endings available after you beat the game once and free/included in the game.

I'd totally respect BW again.
*Hopes for DLC*

Well, if anything, maybe Bioware might stumble across this and take some inspiration for DLC.

Ya, really... What if this whole ending thing was just a dream sequence and Shepard wakes up (in a DLC) and we get the real ending....Posted Image

It makes sense. After thinking about it, the whole segment from the final charge, to the Guardian, seems really strange and out of place with the rest of the game, especially after getting hit from that beam. I mean, you just happen to beam up to a narrow corridor that directly leads you to the control panel, that happens to be able to open the citadel, where TIM just happens to be waiting, and to top it all off, Anderson made it there ahead of you? An old man beating Shepard to the punch? Doesn't seem real to me, and that's just the gist of it.

It seems reasonable to believe that it took place while Shepard was knocked out, and waking up in the rubble (in the "destroy all synthetics"-ending) would be the true continuation of the story. At the very least, it seems like a convenient place to slot in a proper ending to the game. It makes room for fitting in just about any type of ending, including the ones in the hallucination.

Well, if Bioware wants, I give them permission to use this idea, royalty free.

We all know how much they love royalty free things!

*cough* Tali's face *cough*

Come on Bioware, this hallucination theory has actually given me some hope that you havent lost your touch. Dont let me down.

There would be a whole new form of anger if it was a dream though. But the question is.. would there be less anger? Maybe this is the way to go.

Good question.  We'd see plenty of people rage about how we're being asked to pay for better stories, but I'd be willing to bet that the number of people that would pay for such a thing would be worth it.  Heck, I'd pay for a different ending.

What the OP said about TIM controlling Shepard did get me thinking though, that something was going on.  If nothing else, I felt like it was another missed chance to hear Harbinger.  I thought he'd be talking to use once we got back to Earth, then I thought when I saw him he'd be talking to Shepard as he struggled toward the beam.  Then I thought that as TIM talked about controlling the Reapers we'd hear, "ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL."

Why the hell are the devs and lead writer talking NOW we have to keep our saves? It has to be something to do with the ending...

I think it should be a hallucination, like Shep didn't make it through but Anderson and your squad did and managed to activate the crucible which deactivates the reapers. Least that's what i hope happened, main clue for me was that the kid was there. why the hell would the catalyst that the form of a kid it had never ever seen before.

Perfect. I didn't really think about that. When Shep breathes after the "destroy" option, the rubble didn't look very Citadel-like... it could have been back on Earth after being shot by Harbinger.

And yeah, that's why I chose "destroy". Destroy is the only true option... to finally end the Reaper threat once and for all. Organics might survive or destroy each other, but whatever the outcome, it will be on their own terms. Self-determination. The way it's supposed to be.

The others are too much of a Matrix 3-style cop out. I hated the ending to the Matrix soooooooo much. I never thought Mass Effect, one of my favorite franchises of all time, would end as badly as the Matrix did.

Space magic seems to be an element in which the endings seem to revolve around so space magic...

I thought it was a vivid hallucination as well - he visualized all the scenarios in his head as if the illusive man and capt anderson  picked their choices already ...perhaps it was all three of them thinking out their own scenarios and picking their own choices...who knows

Now that I think about it even more, it being a hallucination would actually make your EMS somewhat relevant in story, as opposed to being just a number that arbitrarily determines what ending you get.

The higher your EMS, the longer the fleets can hold their own against the Reapers, meaning that if you have enough, and ONLY if you have enough, they can continue fighting at least until Shepard wakes up.

If they are still fighting when Shepard wakes up, then the Crucible will still be intact.

I really hope I'm not setting myself up to be disappointed by Bioware yet again though.

This.

It would suck that we'd have to pay for the real ending that should've been in there in the first place, but I'll throw them my money, if only to get this horrible taste out of my mouth.

In continuation of my drinking the kool-aid....

WHAT IF:
The rest of it is already on the discs you already payed for, and is just day and date locked, so that say Tuesday when all this has hit a fever pitch with no responses to it, they flip a switch, say go check your save games, and we get a whole new slew of things to complain about...

Massive publicity for a stunt like that says what??

Hmmm, maybe I should lay off the kool-aid a bit...

Well it can't be anything regarding the last mission since there's no way to manually save in that one . Hell even the autosave gets overwritten once you get back the Normandy before you went to Cerberus.

I think u found bioware evil plan! AFter all I think it would make sense, especially with the breathing under rubble scene and just the overall dreamlike of everything after u wake up after running at the beam. It had the same feel as when u were dreaming of that kid, voices, that blood/dark spot around your screen and slow movement.

But you still have a restart mission-save of the Crucible "mission"
