In my point of veiw, the whole theist versus atheist argument stems from the fact that both sides are wrong.
Athiests beleive since we can objectively prove there is no man with a gigantic white beard sitting on a throne in the sky, there is no God.
Fundamententalists ( quick fact, are you aware in ancient Rome, the Fundament was referring to your ass?) beleive there is.
I can say there is some force out there that was the prime mover, the cause of all other causes. Does that mean it was a sentient being? Maybe, though probably not. "God" is not necessarily a being, he could be a force, an idea, not necessarily sentient or even living. Could you even call this force "God"? Sure, but you could also call it quintessence, the Grand Unified Theory, or simply, the Cause, the beginning of the Universe.
But that's all I'll say about that.
Or... Cosmic Imperative. (Shameless self-plug I know. Well, since I'm already going to hell...)
I've always reasoned the whole issue thus.
- Assume that God is benevolent. Then you have good reason to be a good person, and God will surely forgive you for not neccesarily beleving in Him.
- Assume that God is malevolent. Then you should be a good person to other people so that they are good to you and everyone can benefit and make the best of it.
- Assume that God is indifferent. Then you should be a good person to other people so that they are good to you and everyone can benefit and make the best of it.
- Assume that God doesn't exist. Then you should be a good person to other people so that they are good to you and everyone can benefit and make the best of it.
And that's all I'm going to say on the subject.
