Right.

Did that guy who said his friend only got Control and Synthesis endings post the video and screenshots of it yet?

I want to see that to, it seems to be one of those rare things, similar to EDI living in the destroy ending, I've never seen first hand proof.

Er... why is the thread in a religious discussion now?

A troll came. Tried to derail this thread with religious debate. So we ignored it.

Someone now brought up the subject again. And now we're doing the opposite of the troll's intent: we're engaging in polite, intellectual discussion with the goal of greater understanding for all.

Becuase we're spiteful bastards that's why.

I applaud then; but alas we are so close to 2052.

Deus Ex must happen. Must happen.

I want to see what people will do in 2186. In 2183 we need to begin a retrospective at least.

Brb, reinstalling.

Also, you know what ending I'm gonna pick? Oh yeah.

"Yesterday we obeyed kings and bent our necks to emperors. Today we kneel only to truth."

Words to live by.

Everytime someone mentions it, someone reinstalls it.

Anyways, I'm going to go away now (in other words; lurk this thread for hours) so have fun!

I just started the Citadel:The Return mission again (boo...btw) and I noticed a few bodies that are hanging on some of the Reaper cables. They look different from the piles of bodies on the floor and their armor looks ALOT like they are cerberus assault troopers. I suppose it is possible TIM brought some troops with him when he went to the citadel but it does seem odd that the Cerberus troops (if they are in fact Cerberus...hard to tell) are not on the piles of bodies and are just hanging on the Reaper cables in an almost symbolic fashion...

I'm inclined to not believe in those crazy endings. If all the rare ends I read about are true, there are like 20 endings.

But that EDI thing, if proves to be true, only we can conclude 2 things:

1 - The endings were not real at all

OR

2 - The game was developed by 6-year-old kids

I have yet to see proof, so I'm inclined to not believe it either. But that would mean that this Pat Weekes interview is more or less bunk, no?

I'm pretty sure that what happened there was probably just a bug. Destroy and Control are both unlocked well before Synthesis is unlocked.

Hopefully I'll get those shots up in the next couple days, friend is getting FRAPS up and running again so might even get a video upped to youtube but screeshots for sure. Only thing is he's got work on and off throughout the weekend and next week so don't know when I can get them.
I thought it was probably a bug at  first too, but we'll double check soon enough.

Took me the entire day but I finally caught up. I must say I am quite disappointed in how many posts were wasted on responding to blatant trolling.

Why engage with someone who isnt interested in contributing to the thread or discussion at hand?

It's true that, if your EMS is low, the energy wave from the destroy ending burn all organics and destroy Earth? If that's true, I am 100% certain that the endindgs can't be real. BW would not make such dumb things, I just can't believe in that.

Either way, I cant wait. Even if your friend was mistaken or just confused, I'd still like to know. The bit that makes me really wonder is how he said he walked up to the destroy ramp, couldnt do anything, and then walked back. There are two things wrong with that: First, if you walk completely down the ramp, the game locks you there and you cant back out. Second, if you walk halfway down the ramp (to the point where it turns), and then try to walk back, you get a game over.

Huh, this isnt really relevant, but I was messing around on the very first mission, and reloaded right as I was first able to play the game.

When it loaded up I had the Avenger at the very start of the Earth level instead of getting at the end.

I mean the Earth level is really easy even on insanity, but still, I guess thats nice to know.

It's true, that's what's depicted. And it's not that stupid. If you didn't bother building up your strength to combat the greatest enemy the galaxy has ever faced, and you just rush in with a rag-tag half-dead fleet, then yeah, make it a pyrrhic victory on the grandest scale.

Or, according to IT, a complete failure.

I guess reloading the game assembles an avenger for you.

Yes, thats true. Unfortunately though, for both sides of the argument, using "Bioware is lazy/Bioware is too awesome for this" is the weakest possible "evidence". We try to focus on things that could be meant to be interpreted as hints by the developers that the story isnt over.

In my humble opinion, the real-world implications actually favor IT. Just to mention a couple:
  • Bioware asked for 6 more months, got 3, EC is coming out ~3 months after release
  • Bioware has a documented history of doing twist endings and even fake endings in some cases
  • EA's fiscal year ends in March, meaning this controversy is a win/win scenario for them as long as Bioware knocks the EC out of the park (last year's numbers benefited by ME3 being released just in time for the end of FY 2011, PR controversy will be wrapped up well in time for FY 2012 to benefit from it)
Anti-IT folk trying to cite real-world implications usually say something along the lines of:
  • Bioware has been ruined by EA (without citing any facts that suggest it)
  • Bioware dropped the ball/got lazy/has no idea what artistic integrity is (opinion)

Except the fact that the red wave disintegrates people on Earth kind of implies thats what the red wave is going to do everywhere, meaning you not only killed everything in the galaxy, you scorched all planets of any life whatsoever, and have pretty much sterilized the entire galaxy for all time. (Except for the planet the Normandy lands on, apparently, because it is immune to the color red, I suppose)

Nice going.

In face value context I assume that only the immediate wave that comes out of the Citadel vaporizes everything, and as the process makes it to the mass relays, the relays compensate and send out the correct, non destructive wave to the rest of the galaxy.

But, IT context still makes more sense, because the wave vaporizing earth symbolizes Shepard's utter lack of hope that Earth can actually be saved.

Yeah, that's actually... yeah. I don't know what the deal is there. Maybe it's just Earth that's torched due to proximity/energy-density...
Or, you know... :wizard:

Also, you forget that if life arose once on its own, it can again, presumably.

So it's not totally a downer ending. <_<

That's just an assumption though, there's nothing to suggest that anything is "compensated" for. No one even walks out of the normandy on that ending if I'm not mistaken.

Low EMS destroy epilogue - 4 billion years from now, a single-celled organism appears on a planet we've never seen before.

There's really no way to know for sure since we have no actual idea what is going on with those waves. If the Crucible is allegedly capable of sufficiently restructuring matter to achieve the Synthesis ending, it also stands to reason it could vaporize every single atmosphere in the galaxy or otherwise ruin the potential for further organic development.

Yeah, that interview was, to say the least, strange. Besides the fact that the answers were not exactly what Weekes said, they were very evasive and contradictory. So, I really don't take this interview as evidence for or against IT.
