So I've been following this thread for awhile then stopped a couple weeks ago, and I think that regardless of what BW has planned for the extended ending I think I still prefer the original thought process behind the IT. It really paints a picture of Shepard that I think I like. i mean if Shepard is fighting an indoctrination attempt at the end of the game, then whether he dies or not is inconsequential. And throughout the series, my shepard kept his dignity and his cool under pressure. He rejected the reapers at every turn and chose the destroy ending. It was a final act of defiance against an unbeatable and uncompromising enemy. One that you're not safe from even in your own mind.

Honestly, I don't care what an extended ending might entail anymore. An ending where my shepard rejects the reapers mind games that claimed Saren, TIM, Udina, etc... is good enough for me. My shepard never gave in and always held his ground. That's just how I choose to see it, and that is how I will always choose to see it. Seriously, it's poignant and beautiful and all that in this light.

I think I may be rambling now so I'll call it quits and go elsewhere, but I do hope that everyone sees that if shepard is dead in the end that makes it all the more powerful. He fought so hard against both the reapers physical attempts to best him and their more insidious attempts, and he won. Dead or not he won if the destroy option is chosen, breathe scene or not, He Won. He did more than some of the most powerful people(aliens included) in the universe could. He rejected the reapers mind games.

Just my opinion though, so keep thinking. A lot of intelligent stuff is coming from this thread. Thank you and sorry for rambling.

Your point is well made, but I have to disagree with the assertion that ME is all about Shepard. Quite the opposite in fact. "Shepard" is a literary device to give the player a perspective on the story.  The intention is for us to care about the galaxy and its inhabitants, not Shepard himself/herself. I'm sure opinions on this vary, since Shepard is definitely well-written enough to be cared about, however the majority of the playerbase cares far more about the fates of the squadmates and other important characters. Hence the outcry over the current ending as it stands. 

I agree with the concept of Shepard being an avatar for the player, however it has been established in interviews that that Mass Effect trilogy is Shepards(therefore your) story. The most recent example is from the strategy guide guide which also establishes a teaser for the future franchise with a simple sentence about more stories to tell.

Now THAT'S a very good picture to compare the two. Looks like the same area with just some blur filter - EXCEPT for the two motherf*cking dream trees. I mean, someone had to add them DELIBERATELY, and on a certain purpose.

1) Wouldn't it make sense that Coat(?) says "the entire fleet was decimated" because...it was? Shepard and everyone else was either dead or suffering on the ground. Not nesessarily agaisnt IT, just playing devil's advocate.

I don't see how you can say that you are playing devil's advocate, both arguments have been used for the pro IT theory

1. Yes that is what happened, everything after being "hit" by the laser doesn't actuallty happen, Shepard is still on the ground on the battlefield(at least in my understanding of it)

2. There is a theory that Shepard has been rebuilt using reaper tech as no one else in the known universe has been brought back from the dead.

Sorry... what? Just for effect? That is a pathetic argument. There is absolutely zero reason for the trees to be there. It adds to IT as it provides a dream-like state. I seriously don't know how you can think that.

Just what is that effect? 

Because for me, the effect is to cause players to doubt the reality of post-beam scenes.

Any other effect any other person can think of? There are many many deliberate decisions that seem inexplicable except as clues the devs put in to cause us to ask the question debated in this thread.

HIGHLY unlikely. The blur effect actually makes the damn trees and shrubs stand out oppose to be harder to see.

Do anyone have a picture of the trees from the dreams, so we can compare? Because those trees looks very much like how I remember the dream trees.

I brought this up ages ago, I wasn't expecting topless Ashley but I expected for her to be in a hospital gown or bra/undershirt. Instead it was just the standard military shirt.

Topless males are fine, topless femals and it's a sexual thing....I'm pretty sure that people get the same type of gratification of a topless man that others get from a topless women after all both involve staring at someone's body for pleasure

@prettz -- Thanks for the pics. People have been fighting over these damn trees off and on for 1500 pages. This is the best comparison I've seen. Not saying there weren't others. These are just the best I've seen.

Do anyone have a picture of the trees from the dreams, so we can compare? Because those trees looks very much like how I remember the dream trees. 

The problem with that is BioWare made only one set of dead trees, so the ones that are actually there before the beam do look the same.

But the added trees and shrubs are obvious. (In my picture you can even see that these two trees are missing)
