Guys, I don't want to rain on your parades on anything, but I feel this must be said. Maybe it's been said already in these 286 pages, but I feel that there's another possibility: that Bioware were flying by the seat of their pants and just made what they think is a satisfactory ending. The original script had a way different ending. But it was leaked, and the ending was found out. So, to save face, I think they just changed the ending, hired a random voice actor to play Star Child, and gave us 3 endings that they thought was good enough (the endings to seem kind of rushed). Maybe anticipating that fans would backlash, they made preemptive comments like "It's all about the journey not the destination" and "a lot of people are not going to be happy."

After the discovery of the old ending, they rushed to put together a new ending and still meet release, and this was the best they could do.

I believe in the indoctrination theory, there are to many hints both ingame and from devs. That said:

There is a difference between a moderately bad ending and a totally unfrigginbelievable inadequate ending. The ending as it stands now simply cant be the final one because:

Bioware promised us closure. We dont know what happens with:

1) Shepard (Just super vague hints)
2) Your crew (In the long run, not "stranded on jungle planet, safe the next hour")
3) We still have no idea who made the reapers, and the reapers story is still shallow as hell. We need proper answers here.
4) Where is the final LI scenes? Love interests are to much of importance to players than to just go "Hey maybe they will forget about it"

So to sum it up, we are missing the proper end boss. Finding out where the reapers really originated from + more story on them. We need the final "We made it guys" speech and to hear each characters story as with what they did next and how their lives were. We also need to know how it went with all the races, and their futures. We are missing the all-important Shepard+love interest falling asleep together finally at peace. We are missing the Protheans relief after finally avenging his people...

I could go on forever. That was just from the top of my head. Simply put, the Indoctrination theory MUST be true not only for us fans's sake. But for the sake of Biowares future. The ending isnt bad YET, because if this is added and the indoctrination theory is true the game will be legendary. But... if the ending as it stands is the real ending, then biowares reputation is without doubt pretty much destroyed.

HOWEVER... twitter replies and strategic comments/silence from devs has pretty much confirmed the suspicions of this thread. So I believe Bioware may have one hell of a surprise for us.

From  technical point of view as well - the ending has no character dialogue after shep. Just a three person short animation of a tiny part of your squad.

The endings are quick, cheap and easy because why would they put the polish and effort (that is present in the other 40 hours of the game) in a 10 minute ending that is a red herring for the real one?

@cgrimm54 & Auresta

ah, i see! i was basing it on youtube videos of the endings that i'd seen.

does the citadel close in any other ending or is it always destroyed in the synthetic and destroy endings?

EDIT: read cgrimm54s post again, i see, that all makes sense ^_^

The logic behind indoctrination theory is extremely tempting (some of the supposed "evidence" is less so) but I can't get around the fact that it would require Bioware to have deliberately shipped one of the most anticipated games of the last few years without the actual ending.

That simply can't be the case. It beggars belief.

New little tid-bit from GameFAQs, though I've yet to test it personally. Could be false, but a few others backed up the claim, so I'm assuming it is true.
---
"As I get into the dream, I see the boy running and hear numerous whispers as well as view ghostly figures. These are obvious clues that everyone noticed being just like indoctrination victims however have you ever tried to resist the kid?

As soon as the kid runs away, I turned around and ran from him and guess what happened?

A whisper says "Shepard" in a human voice and the kid cries, forcing my Shepard to turn around.

I turn around again, doing the same thing and guess what happened the second time?

A whisper says "Shepard" in Harbinger's voice, or at least one similar enough to mistake it. This was tested on the dream right after the resolution of the genophage plot-line."
---
If anyone has the time or a save near one of the dream sequences, it'd be nice to actually get a recording of this to dissect, and if it proves true, that's another drop in the evidence-bucket!

More evidence that it's a dream. When you reload the gun, the ejected clip falls in slow motion, even when you're still on Earth. It's very surreal, and I can't think of any other reason why they'd do that.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned, but I posted this in the mega thread, and figured I would post it here too. If it has been covered, please disregard.

So I am not sure who has read the codex, I am looking at it now. I am not sure if this was mentioned, but it plays right into indoctrination theory.

Codex--->The Reapers--->Indoctrination:
  • Organics undergoing indoctrination may complain of headaches and buzzing or ringing in their ears. As time passes, they have feelings of "being watched" and hallucinations of "ghostly" presences. Ultimately, the Reaper gains the ability to use the victim's to amplify it's signals, manifesting as "alien" voices in the mind.

This sells me on indoctrination theory, and tells me that the right choice is destroy everything, if that part is even real. I feel pretty strongly about getting a DLC from the point of Shepard's breathing now. Whether or not that sequence actually happened is another question.

But if they reveal shortly after release the actual full ending for free Agen, it'd be a HELL of publicity stunt, an incredible cliffhanger, fans would love it, it'd restore faith in Bioware's cleverness .... it'd be flat out ingenious.

On basic levels, indoctrination is the only thing that makes sense to me for the following reasons:

1. If it isn't indoctrination, why can't Shepard or Anderson suddenly control themselves?
2. Harbinger, the main bad of ME2 arrives to stop Shepard personally - but nothing happens?

The boss fight was fighting the indoctrination.

Hm. Might be. The voice-effects are similar enough that, when distorted, one might be able to mistake them... Again, this is all hearsay, so I can't really vouch for the credibility of whoever actually found it. For all I know, they might be half-deaf. *shrug*

I just find it hard to believe that this guy from Mass Effect 2 lets the entire game pass without a single mocking comment...

@ParallelFire You are correct. We have a rule on the team that there are no canon choices. We leave it to you to decide Shepard's true path.
