So, the players who are currently pissed off with the ending and "holding the line" are the ones fighting the real world indoctrination. The players satisfied with the ending are in fact giving in to the indoctrination.

I like it. I like this theory a lot. If BioWare pulls this off it will be the most amazing PR stunt the gaming world has ever seen. They will go down in history as masters of interactive media and creating a connection between human beings and their digital characters that no other developer has done before...

... or as the greatest trolls ever.

Till then, hold that damn line!

Even if these theories are accurate. Charging for the real "ending" of the game is just as bad as removing Prothy from the game to begin with, and then denying it.

I chose control my first time through, i had no idea it was an indoctrination though that would explain being out of your armor and being the only person that can move, also none of your squad mates being there was a wtf moment.
interesting, i chose control to end war for all eternity in mass effect so that i could use the reapers to stop any war that would come in the future. i guess that was naieve for this game though, I sincerely hope it was indoctrination because based on empirical evidence, bioware has the capabilities, potential, and imagination to do an ending that will make people who have put already 200+ hours into mass effect put another 1000 in.

Pretty much.

Personally I find it reinforced by a quote Casey made about doing something never done before, where they make the player feel something their character does.

You either give up hope and accept the endings given or you keep fighting it and believe its not the end.

The thing is wether or not anything comes from it or if they release some pre-end game DLC and call it a day and leave everyone scratching their noggins.

In metal gear solid they did some crazy stuff like forcing you to plug your controller into the second player slot and whatnot, there was another screen that faked the blue screen of death on you (I cant remember the name), so why cant Bioware do this to us too? Im telling you Bioware is just not stupid enough to mess up an ending like this.  Remember its their universe too, Im sure they want a happy ending and closure as much as we do.  Somethings up.

Sorry to disappoint you, but the picture is actually "stolen" from deviantart. BioWare wasn't too original there.

As for the lyrics.. normally I'm open to anything, but to me that sounds like wishful thinking.

Yeah - its a damn fine pick up! I've spent the last ten minutes seeing if I can make any other connections between them and BioWare.

Beyond the obvious use of the picture and the interesting lyrics of course.

At the risk of getting yelled at . .

What if the whole game is the ending? You see the results of your actions from ME1 & 2 throughout the game, and you do get a sense of closure for your past actions.
That still leaves the last 15 min unanswered but, I believe that's actually the beginning for something new, and not "the ending".

Be gentle please, just another idea.

Pretty much the same idea

https://twitter.com/...35137944670208

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that.

For me it sounds little like grasping at straws. They won't admit that they screw it up, will they?

Well of course not. IF they screwed up I don't think they will ever admit it. Maybe 50-60 years from now when one of them is in their deathbed they'll say "Hey, remember that game, ME 3?, yeah we screwed up big time"

Kinda supports the "Dream" idea.

There are just those questions left:

- Does the player "dream" being Shepard?
In that case, Shepard's story (the dream) continues in fanfiction & stuff

- Does Shepard dream the endings?
If the answer is "yes", what happened to the Reapers since Shepard never decided anything.

- Does Shepard dream the entire series?
Possible, but nowhere hinted.

- Does the old man "dream" of Shepard & the story so he can tell that kid a fairy tale?
Very likely. After all, he says it all happened a long time ago. Usually what tellers do ...

Pick an answer.

Obviously everything is just speculation - but the popular consensus is it will be free.

Some discrepencies in size difference between PC , Xbox and PS3 seem to suggest there might already be additional content on the console installs.

Ignore the picture. Look at the title of the song "Starchild" and the substance of the lyrics. It's basically hinting at everything the child says inside the game.

Maybe, but what would that be supposed to mean? That Casey Hudson liked this song so much so he decides to write it into the game?

Things that we have already talk about in the dream.
!) It is not a boy voice calling out your name, but a man's voice.
2) When you go the wrong way in the dream, you hear the Reaper noise.
What does the female voice say to you in the dream?
She says, "It is time to..... I can't make out what she says.

I wouldn't be surprised.. they did use a google stock photo for Tali's face, and are now tweeting everybody by asking: how would you have written the epilogue? (basically asking players to re-write an ending for them...)

Maybe they just ran out of ideas without Drew Karpyshyn (this dude is awesome, too bad he left), and decided to just rip off material from all the corners of the web?

Oh damn, I remember that quote now! Either Casey was making it in reference to being the first game company to have a video game series that imported stories across 3 different games or..... well, this, really. What else could be mean? The ending generator has been seen in many games before it, the most recent being Deus Ex HR. Even then, that game did it better in providing an explanantion of the future of the universe you had a hand in creating. This game, which took players on a journey through 5 years of the best storytelling, was setting all of this up only to let it crash and burn in the final 2 minutes? Nu-uh. There have been enough hints, I'm ready to believe.

If I'm wrong, then I will stick to the theory. I can't hate Mass Effect.

Not sure what you mean by this - but sounds all kinds of crazy awesome theories - and crazy awesome works until debunked.

Dreams happen very fast, and Reaper processing power is probably able to keep up and even surpass - so it could perhaps be but a few moments or 15 minutes (about the length of the end game itself) - so for 15 minutes or a few seconds - everything is continuing as normal.
- Does Shepard dream the entire series?
Possible, but nowhere hinted.
Yeah - possible, but that would be too much of a risk and like you said - we can apply indoctrination theory to the ending, but if you start applying it to most of the game - the evidence dries up pretty fast.
- Does the old man "dream" of Shepard & the story so he can tell that kid a fairy tale?
Very likely. After all, he says it all happened a long time ago. Usually what tellers do ...
Pick an answer.
Closure, the Boy left Shep scarred, maybe they see some kind of redemption / closure in this boy about to go fourth and embrace the stars. The ending has never sat well with me - the implication about weird wonderful life, even if they were stories past down, almost every where in the galaxy has more than one type of life. It never made sense in any context.

Well, they used other peoples stock photos and art throughout ME3 so i guess it's plausable they "borrowed" the endings from this song... maybe one of  the Dev's is a Wintersun fan? Lol.
