So, the players who are currently pissed off with the ending and "holding the line" are the ones fighting the real world indoctrination. The players satisfied with the ending are in fact giving in to the indoctrination.
I like it. I like this theory a lot. If BioWare pulls this off it will be the most amazing PR stunt the gaming world has ever seen. They will go down in history as masters of interactive media and creating a connection between human beings and their digital characters that no other developer has done before...
... or as the greatest trolls ever.
Till then, hold that damn line!
Pretty much.
Personally I find it reinforced by a quote Casey made about doing something never done before, where they make the player feel something their character does.
You either give up hope and accept the endings given or you keep fighting it and believe its not the end.
The thing is wether or not anything comes from it or if they release some pre-end game DLC and call it a day and leave everyone scratching their noggins.
Oh damn, I remember that quote now! Either Casey was making it in reference to being the first game company to have a video game series that imported stories across 3 different games or..... well, this, really. What else could be mean? The ending generator has been seen in many games before it, the most recent being Deus Ex HR. Even then, that game did it better in providing an explanantion of the future of the universe you had a hand in creating. This game, which took players on a journey through 5 years of the best storytelling, was setting all of this up only to let it crash and burn in the final 2 minutes? Nu-uh. There have been enough hints, I'm ready to believe.
If I'm wrong, then I will stick to the theory. I can't hate Mass Effect.
Yeah. He made some pretty strong suggestion that what they were doing was going to be very unique and powerful for the gamer. Not the game.
It makes sense to me though - that total lack of control you have to question it. Even to the point of almost total abondment of the moderators from the forums. Seriously - beyond Woo and priestly once in a blue moon telling us to rope it in. We've been left to our own devices - but they've said on Twitter they're reading.
And yep - the game had so much polish, so many variations, so many in game cinematics that varied on so many things - to get a copy past ending that could be done in a short while and used on other character dialogue from Shepards squad? I just flat out refuse to believe BioWare would drop the ball THAT much. Even DA2 endings was nowhere NEAR this level of let down.
