Where's the risk? The Reapers are in control of the situation. The Alliance accomplished attaching a whirligig on top of a Reaper vessel and thought it was some kind of ace in the hole. Reapers do not wish to destroy. They wish to control. That is their chief motivation. Previously the Mass Effect series made many allusions and comparisons of the Reapers with the amoral gods of the Cthulu Mythos. Their motivations are inexplicable. They are cruel, and they always wish to break those foolhardy enough to show the hubris to stand in their way. And they always win. If Lovecraft were penning this Shepherd would indeed end up indoctrinated and do something that would destroy all his greatest hopes, because that is indeed of all things what he dreads the most.

Also remember that the Reapers need to stay ahead of the curve. The Protheans introduced a whole bunch of changes that interfered with their plans from beyond the grave. More thoroughness and intelligence in this cycle is likely needed to undo the damage the Protheans did to the process.

Why would Harbinger indoctrinate Shepard when he could just kill him? What is gained by doing that and risking it all in a battle for Shepard's mind?

I like...

Just answered that.

It's answered right above this post.

'Because Harbinger said he wanted Shepard alive' is not an answer to my question.

Why does Harbinger want Shepard alive?

I was always under the impression that Shepard was very resistant to indoctrination and therefore of great intresst to the reapers.

So the Reapers indoctrinate Shepard to think he's won so that they can use him to build a Reaper because he's so resistant to indoctrination.

Yep. That's just what happened.

Yeah, that's the main reason why I am no buying the indoctrination angle, but with the end being what it is I am hoping for at least something bettter

Which would explain why Harbinger needs Shepard.

I'm going to cling to the Shepard was killed by Harbinger when charging towards the Conduit. All the rest was hallucinations because of blood loss not indoctrination. The Reapers won. It is honestly as likely as the other endings.

Guys, don't mind the trolls, lets focus on the theory itself. For example, what can you deduce from the script?

There isn't really a lot of stuff to deduce from the script, there were some difference on how shepard got to the beam, but other then that there was no real difference what I could find, other then what has already been brought up.

Scripts are just guides, they dont mean much, they just give the general scope of the scene, then all the connecting developers make it as close to it as possible, sometimes its different.

People with carefully explained contrarian opinions are not trolls, no matter how much you don't like what they say. Grow up.

I didn't even know about it to be honest, if someone could link me I'd like to read it, disect it and all that. Also, all the humans on the Citadel have no eyes or hair, like the husks. Which seems very... Dream like to me.

He was talking about Joe21, not everything is a personal offense. You don't need to take it that way.

Well, he did conveniently bring almost everyone they would need to harvest (or at least the main resistance forces) to one place instead of making them go chase everyone down. He also keeps them from scattering if it looks like he can still offer them hope. Plus, he's good at getting people to trust him and follow him to their death. If you can bend him to your will, he can be used to ease the transition... maybe even make them think it is in their best interests. It's plausible, if a bit of a stretch. Personally, I think it was just a poorly written ending... but it's more fun to play with the idea of a hidden meaning than waste time being sad about the flaming turd of an ending they really gave us.

I think that is merely a result of programming and nothing else. According to the script its a processing center, just like they say in the dialogue.

I didn't say you were a troll, if you felt that way it's your own interpretation.

Like I said wishful thinking on my part on it.  But well the body of work at least deserves the benefit of the doubt that the poor ending is a result of them trying to be too clever rather than utter ineptitude or the excuse of running out of time or lets monetize a broken steel style dlc.

Can we take anything out of what TIM said? Did he say anything new? Like something Shep could not know, there for could not factor into the dream since he had no prior knowledge? And are we thinking this is a result of Harbinger directly giving these images or just something that has been implanted over time? I know, a lot of questions.

I apologize then. It was a mistake because of unfortunate post ordering. My error.

No he didn't. From the main missions you had to access the panels where the illusive man talks about his plan to control the reapers, and that's pretty much what he sticks to in the citadel.

For those who played it and ME3, does anyone else see some similarities to the wacked plot line Infinite Space (NDS) took around midway through the 2nd half with the whole higher beings thingy?

Also, so very confused with the ending and surely the longer Bioware or EA waits, the more harm it will do to their brand?
