What I am asking is Why would the reapers use the citadel if it is something that can eliminate them so completely through the crucible. Why not use something less potent to spy? Why didnt they protect the citadel better?

They might not have known about the Crucible.  Older races might've figured out how to turn their greatest asset into a trap.

so the reapers are stupid? this thing was worked on for hundreds of thousands of years according to javik... the reapers never contimplated the destruction of the mass relays? And if the crucible can destroy the mass relays and the reapers does this mean that the reaapers are connected to the relays in some form?

Probably not and destroying the Relays while it would slow the Reapers down and break the cycle it would far from stop as they are still very fast (like 30 lightyears a day fast) and could feasibly reconstruct the relay network. No i dont think that is where the Crucibles effect is to be found.

If the Citadel is the Catalyst I think its related to Citadel beeing a Mass relay to Darkspace as i mentioned in my last post.

Shepard then becomes the true Catalyst (defined as whatever thingamajig that starts a reaction) through the Crucible (defined as an extreme test) and finally used the Citadel as a massive weapon that focuses its energy to the Reapers. Bam! It's done.

The Prothean VI states that the previous civilizations adopted the citadel to be the catalyst for this weapon they have created.  The VI also states that it had security measures in place to avoid telling anyone that the citadel was the catalyst because if the reapers found out they would act to stop the organics from using it.

Wish Origin had a screen shot option. Would've liked to post how derpy she looked.

You should download Fraps. That way you are always just a button press away from saving those great moments. :P

Yeah, I might use my husband's account. He was telling me to fraps the ending the whole time because he was so amused by my incessant tom-foolery.

Also, I think they might have fixed a bug. The last time I played, my squadmates were nowhere to be seen on the final run to the beam. This time, they were right behind me, derping out and not exactly running, but teleporting around. They got hit by beams more than once and laughed it off, apparently. :P Still, their bodies didn't appear at the end (because of my high EMS) so all was good in the hood with me. Sorta. Well, not really.

So if the reapers wanted to stop organics from using the citadel why did they bring it to earth? Why no cloak it and bring it out into deep space or something. Silly reapers, tricks are for organics.

Edit: The reapers cant monitor communications and know about what everyone is doing? That the crucible is being built and that their will be a massive attack against them right where they are bringing the citadel? They appear weaker and weaker to me the more I think about it.

The PLANS were worked on for 100s of 1000's of years.  They had to build the thing from scratch.

Why would the Reapers destroy the Relays if their whole goal isto keep harvesting galactic civilizations? That's BEGGING organics to get creative.

What I can tell you is that the arguments for IT are incredibly weak, and that the evidence supporting the theory is incredibly weak.

Circa 1519 BC: The arguments for a round earth are incredibly weak and the evidence supporting the theory is incredibly weak.

Two years later Magellan floats back into port... Just sayin'. Posted Image

And I'm sure the greeks who proved it hundreds of years before were just as frustrated with people like you as many of the people in this thread are. But people do tend to mock what they don't understand. So it's ok. "Magellan" will show up next week sometime to help you understand.

You really don't understand the numerous substantive differences between that scenario and this one?  Seriously?

Remember these words when the dlc comes out.

(And no there's not really a difference: one side provides plausible evidence, the other says its ridiculous .... just depends on what side your on)

Because they needed it to make another proto-human-reaper thing. It was easiest to defend in Sol because they controlled the system and that's where all the humans were. In ME2, it clearly states they want to harvest the entire population of Earth. :o

The reapers are unknowable and completely beyond organics, truth be told they probably were using it as a trap. Heck everything about the end sequence had Ackbar basically screaming over my shoulder while I rushed the conduit.

Because the Reapers are arrogant. They dont beleive they can be defeated, they see organics as insects and the fact that we are after a Citadel is simply a way for them to deal with all resistance in one fell swoop.

By the time Sheaprd is closing in on the beam someof  that arrogance and confidence is beginning to crack I think.

LOL the human reaper was the most idiotic thing in the series. Why would the reapers want a reaper that looks like a human and has arms and gentials etc.

The human reaper was only a Larva. Remember even the smallest reapers are 160 meters in length, far bigger than that larva would have been when it finished resembling a human. Beyond that you have to add the traditional shell around the Reaper larva completely hiding the human looking part.

Ok. So inside the capital ships are giant anamatronic things that look like past evolved beings?

Edit: Im just saying that they shouldve had some foresight.. Also when they attack the galaxy in the 3rd game they do not come through the citadel....

Because they can't. It was never activated because Shepard stopped Sovereign and Saren from turning it on. The entire point of the first game was to make sure they couldn't use the Citadel relay.

They crucible destroying the mass relays is only happening in Shepard's head. Or so it goes if you believe IT. Personally I think it's a step beyond that: that the crucible is part of the Reapers' plans itself. I don't know what it does but it can't be good.

DuskRose wrote...

Probably. I know I'd be pissed if this was all solved by some lunatic elcor digging up a race of archangels that kill the Reapers themselves.

Actually I was wondering what the Reapers were doing with the Citadel too.
Maybe with the Collector base destroyed they have repurposed the Citadel to produce new Reapers.

That is my guess. Off course we cant be certain until we truly crack one open. (personally hoping we get that chance with Harbinger at some point)

Oh and as for why we dident see something like that in the Derelict Reaper it might be because we were in an an entirely different part of the ship. It was 2 Kilometers in lenght after all. Also finding something humanoid or alien looking at teh core of the Reaper would pretty much have given away that surpise for the end of the game :)

Did you play Mass Effect 2? You don't have it registered, so you at first blush at least didn't play the DLC.

The human reaper had no sexual charteristics, it was basically a skeleton.

I wouldn't appreciate such a deus ex machina either.  But between that, Klendagon and a Mass Effect weapon that probably killed a Reaper, I feel rather let down that it wasn't even mentioned.

I did play it. I didnt feel like getting the game out and typing numbers in to register. I have also played all of the DLC and I clearly remember shepard commenting on both the reapers genetalia and the shadow brokers, AND the asari's during that hotel sequence when chasing the assassin.
