Not sure if this was posted by anyone else yet, but another person who can't do anythign forums wise wanted this up:

Hey, I was wondering if you could tell maestorm on the IT forum that most people belive that shepard began being Indoctrinated after he was knocked out by Dr Kensons artifact during the Arrival DLC. I just made this account to post on the forum but I cant for the next 24 hours so any help would be appreaciated.

Thanks for the help

If you want the best 'evidence' for the IDT not being true, it actually does not appear in the game. Bioware and EA executives' actions have given more support to the IDT not being true than anything we can rationalize in the video game.

If IDT was true and Bioware has DLC all along, then after this huge outrage occurred Bioware's response would have been less defensive and perhaps more enlightening to what their current plans are. They went immediately into PR mode (remember they (writers and developers) pretty much stopped responding after the first few days) and they followed this with CYA (cover your ass) mode.

We have a few interesting tidbits here and there, but for the most part it's been delay delay delay oh April, keep buying, don't trade in! It's been an obvious stall tactic (and rightly so if they have this HUGE plan), but the way they planned this has been less than motivating (to me).

Now we've had huge push back by fans who, are rightfuly so, upset at the ending and a little hurt that they've been getting double talk. So bad ratings, bad word of mouth, and bad press (no such thing as bad news is good news in the gaming world) has us here at this pass.

This week alone I've seen two places (best buy and amazon) sell the game at a reduced price. It's three weeks old. It's not Black Friday or anything. Games (especially AAA games) don't drop in price for at the least a few months (and that's rare). We are seeing the effect of this. Are we going to see any news?

The truth in the matter as more time goes by the less likely this theory is going to be true. If they had a plan, it would be incredibly easy to send a 'message' to the die-hard fans that want answers. I mean this is not hard. Prometheus (a movie) has been avoiding the obvious other movie connection (and still does by Ridley Scott--amazingly enough), but there have been new trailers that have basically said YES THIS IS WHAT WE ARE DOING. SHHHH

Nope. Bioware is silent.

Somebody please help me through this thought process? I believe in IDT, but every time I think about this I get worried for a massive disappointment in a week.

To me, Jessica Merizan linking this thread in a tweet saying it explains the endings better than she ever could seems kind of telling. Sort of a way to send a message to the people following closely.

By the way it might be possible. Bioware said the game will take about 40 hours. But it needed 31 hours and most other players I talked to were always between 30 and 33.
and I don t know if its true, but I heared the XBOX version is much bigger, then the PC version.

I played the xbox360 game to the fullest (incl scanning/sidemissions etc) and didnot skip a conversation, I ended up playing roughly 43 hours, as an expierenced ME player. In my opinion; 33 hours is very quick for a 360 first-time run..

But why would BioWare cut stuff from the pc-version?

on-topic, I hope that they reveal at PAX that the IT was their aim all along!

I played my frist game on Xbox360 on Insanity and it took 56 hours.  I did everything, plus tried to get every little Zaeed esque conversation with all characters.  Too much time was spent traveling between sections of the Citadel trying to hear the ambient conversations to get Specter terminal updated....-_-

Insanity was easy on the xbox, right up until Marauder Shields.

He had me stuck for liek a day and a half.

I know right?  I died more on Marauder Shields than I did the entire rest of the game!!! :crying:

A nice catch from Reddit poster about the very first thing you see after the prologue.

"Does it seem like such a far fetched idea when the very first image you see in this game (after the prologue) is a misrepresentation of reality?

Is it any coincidence that the person holding that toy is the child who ultimately is the avatar of the Reapers on top of the Citadel and is in Shepard's dreams - dreams where she is tormented by ghostly figures - some might even describe them as oily, black shadows.

I could go on ..."

Not evidence at all but perhaps a nice bit of writers hinting at later events. They certainly paid attention to the fine detail in the rest of the game.

I like your interpretation of the toy/ship image. Come to think of it, is also has been used right in the beginning of the "Take Earth back" trailer.

I can't claim credit for that unfortunately, Reddit has an entire
subforum dedicated to the Indoctrination theory. The view over there is
pretty much that the ending was definitely Indoctrination.

Like films and other media with similar themes like the unreliable narrator, 'Fight Club' for example, when you know the ending while playing the game through again lets you see all the clues.

I did NOT know that. Thanks! I know she had "wink" in some messages and what not, but that could be anything.

Still doesn't explain the lack of hints, but I'm trying to be patient.

I'm such a Mass Effect pro that I've somehow managed to die at the squad select screen two different times.

I dont even know how.

I always find strange ways to die in video games.

In WoW I've died of falling damage on my flying mount multiple times.

The thing about the dream sequence is that it's very similar to IT, so in other words, it isn't 'real'.
Making it turn out to be a dream is likely to incite more anger than making in an indoctrination, because there is evidence supporting indoctrination throughout the 3 games, but no evidence for dying dreams, if you know what I mean?

I suppose you could use that Shephard has already had several dreams involving this kid etc to support this, but you could also use it to support IT.

Yes I get what you mean,....but :) Indoctrination is a form of mind control where the victim is always in reality he moves in reality and he understands what he is doing  he is just made to believe that it is a good idea and that the reapers are gods, I never saw any proof that Shepard thought  the reapers were gods or that it was a good idea to make husks hell we killed a couple of them, the only thing that really touched Shepard is the Prothean tech from the beacon to Javiks shard and they made him see stuff  in dreamlike fashion not unlike the endsequence which contains a lot of images of hope.
Reapers don't care if you as indoctrinated person have a pleasant illusion, their only messag would be obey ...and then die, if they had that empathy they couldn't have killed countless of cycles.

The other explanation could be deliberate bad writing which suggests some arty farty view what is real...to bad for them the matrix have done it before them and  a lot better.

I am pretty sure the StarChild could count as "Supersituous Awe". Shepard has had a massive amount of exposure to Reapers and their technology throughout the series.

I don't think you understand the idea behind Reaper indoctrination how it works in the series, the OP has covered it better than I could given how fast this thread grows.

I didn't feel superstitious awe when I saw that dumb kid tbh... and I think that the reapers made Saren believe that it was his idea, that he still had some measure of control, with Shepard I didn't have that feeling of control anymore it looked more like playing a dream ...and the unlimited ammo isn't explained through indoctrination.
Which also leads me to the next point when you run up to that blue beam which apparently beames you up to starchild and you get blasted by harbingers red ray of hot love why not just kill you ? why do an eloborate indoctrination routine which actually gives you the option to destroy the reapers ...and all synthetic life it makes no sense, all the time reapers are being portrayed as a ruthless synthetic species, they now look like a villain from the old 1960's Batman series...with those moronic traps they always crafted..really.
Some people apparently  had a sequence with Shepard drawing breath in the end, which indicates to me that he never left earth,  so I think and hope that the scene just played out in his mind and had him have a terrible vision of a moronic ending of a great series and then came to his senses again...

I know we can debate this until the world ends but I feel that an IT based ending would raise more questions then they would answer

Yeah but the thing is, the entirety of DA2 was a war crime against logic.  ME3 only stopped making sense in the last 10 minutes.  The rest of the game was great.  DA2... not so much.  Not at all, in fact.

Yes that is pretty worrying. They may have planned this in advance, Origin is accepting returns of Mass Effect 3 as well, but it could have gotten out of hang too quickly, hence the PR silence.

Or this could be within their projects, I am not experienced in this area at all but I would be interested in seeing their projects of Game sales, 2nd hand sales (remember if you return the game its not 2nd hand), DLC uptake, reputation boost etc. Every week of this Mass Effect is getting more media attention (Aside: really highlighting certain 'failings' shall we say in videogame news sites/journalists)

In other words their short term loss and long term gains.

It's a high risk, high reward strategy.

To use a football analogy: they've scored the touchdown in the last second of the game but instead of kicking the extra point and go to overtime they're trying the two point convertion. If they score it'll go down to history as one of the boldest moves ever but if they fail it'll be remembered as a reckless strategy.

For the first week or so Bioware wasn't that defensive and was giving hints along the way that IDT was a possibility (being vague of course).  They didn't become defensive until the following weeks when things became alot more vicious.

As a publicly held company like EA is, they simply can't come out and say that they have DLC planned and what it entails.  They have to go through a procedure and follow a chain of command before it ever comes close to being public.  For example the DA2 team knew about this and tried to do a workaround by shirts that hinted at the expansion that they had planned at events such as PAX.  They only talked about what they had planned or at least what they were given the Ok to talk about.

So we have confirmation that bioware reps have denied outher theories but always seem to hint at IDT?

Also there was a tweet from masseffect twitter saying something like "we aren't changing the ending- we have always had big plans for the ending from the start" It was removed from what I understand.

I don't know why they would tease loyal fans by linking this thread. It doesn't really make sense if it wasn't what they intended from the start.

But I do agree that there will be long term gains. Also someone mentioned a price cut regarding mass effect 3 on amazon. Amazon does that all the time. I buy all my new games there.. and usually a week or two after purchase you can get the game for 5-10 off for a day or two. No matter how big the release.

It actually doesn't worry me at all. As anxious as I am for an answer, I'd actually be much more irritated if Bioware revealed the entire truth about the DLC's plot. I mean, obviously they have to mention something, but it'd really ruin the impact for me as to whether or not IT was true, or what Bioware's intentions were from the beginning. Not shock of discovery--we're just going to tell you. (Of course, I'm probably in the minority on this one.)

Not to mention what would be the point of them not saying a thing all this time, and then just releasing a massive spoiler? Just doesn't make much marketing sense to me.

Yeah the thread linked in her twitter page is highly suggestive.  The removal of the "big plans for the ending" tweet is also.

Not saying anything is fact but those are big!
