Casey has been the showrunner since the beginning.  And it is a game about choices.  That's why the ending is a climactic choice.  It doesn't negate the relationships you've formed, it doesn't negate what you've done for numerous individuals and civilizations, and it doesn't negate the impact Shepard had on the galaxy.  But it isn't a choose your own adventure novel.  They kept a certain narrative framework that your choices were able to partially mold.  That's how they told such a good story.

From what I've read in this place, and many others, is that these are not the endings we were supposed to get.

Interesting.  I'm very glad they changed it to a choice that was beyond paragon or renegade, a truly difficult choice.  No one would have allied with the Reapers to stop dark energy from spreading and people would be complaining about the ending being another "no-brainer" choice in a game that is supposed to be about hard choices.  Also, the supposed original ending doesn't really fit with Shepard's past conversations with Reapers.  "Ascension through destruction" fits much more with the true ending.

Anyway, it seems as though they deliberately changed it to something that they felt was better and fit more with the other games, and I would have to agree with their choice.

Game was recently released in Europe. Waiting for more opinions from there.

Also this is super delicate. BW has to handle this very carefully or it'll be like a nuclear warhead going off.

Um, it was also released in Australia same day.

No one cares about Australia...

Don't get your hopes high... They're giving us the same Dragon Age II silent treatment, all over again.

Goodness people, the game just came out earlier this week. Bioware will release a response in due time.

I'm about half way though the game, but with all the bugs and terrible endings... I'm not sure that I want to finish it now...

i hate endings where "it was a dream" comes to mind.. from what i understand, the events of me1,2 and 3 were the story of some old fart.

They are busy swimming in our money and tears. Mostly tears though, they like the salt in them....
(Southpark Cartman and the chili episode).

Just so everyone knows they are full well aware of this and are listening. when one of the smaller "ending" discussion were ended by a moderator they asked you to post on one of the mega threads. They even went as far as to say that the smaller threads get lost and about 50-60 opinions are lost. Its not any kind of confirmation but it means they are listening.

I hope for a broken steel dlc. I did like the synthesis ending apart from the fact that the relays were all blown up.

We're just going to end up with what Bethesda did. In say somewhere around 6 months, they will release a DLC that gives Shepard a ship or something and you have to find the crew.

Little late to be delicate.  Most people are so disgusted they don't want to touch the series as a whole not just ME3.
