I'm almost at the end, I wont' skip it, because to me, the endings aren't a problem. If someone told me that the end was this big happy celebration with a Star Wars kinda feel to it, I'd be pissed. But considering ME1 gave the "happy" ending, ME2 gave the "less happy but successful" ending, I fully expect ME3 to be the "painful as hell because this game likes to haunt you" ending. And from what I've read, I'll be pleased.

It's not about the ending being either "a big happy celebration" or complete tragedy. Those options shouldn't be mutually exclusive. This is a game about choices. Choices which are severly lacking at the end.
I personally am not against happy or heart-wrenching endings, I just want to be able to choose and feel like all the work I did in the three games actually amounted to something.
But more than that, I just want the endings to make some damn sense. As I'm sure everyone else here does.
Instead, we get a mindf*ck that comes out of bloody nowhere, leaves more questions than it answers, is full of holes and ultimately, tears my Shepard away from my control and makes him do something he would never EVER stand for. All while insulting my intelligence.

I believe this also answers the post below yours.

I haven't even started playing yet (My N7 ed is being held ransom by the local mail) but bumped into some ending spoilers. What I've read so far does not please me. Pre-Release I tried to rationalize that those people who made great games couldn't possibly cause something like ... this. The part with the Normandy irks me the most. Everything else sounds about right, but this is forced.

I'll most likely enjoy the ride until the ending and bail out.... thanks to your advice. My imagination is good enough to come up with something that fits my Shepard better. Better than BW could every try to do with their DLC at least - of which I will buy none in the future, and most likely no more day 1 BW purchases.
DA 2 disappointed me already, but I can't believe I fell for the same trick twice and bought ME 3 at full price (bought me 1 and 2 CE used, DA 1 as Ultimate Edition).

Journey and destination are equally important. What's the point of the journey, if the destination is something no one would want to reach? Isn't that the point of video games?
For Shepard (and in a movie) it might make sense to be the cosmic dust that does not make a difference. But as a player, we have been given quite a few choices in plot critical moments to turn the story around our way, the way we perceive how it would end for Shepard (happy/sad/bittersweet).

Isn't that the essence that makes RPG's? Acting (role playing), making choices, and sometimes meta'ing to plunge poor Shep into his/her doom // create unrealistic // rainbow outcomes? Experience different angles of the story?

My mind wanders a little.... have to ponder on this.

Neko, out.

heh, thanks for the advice im going to wait until my friends finish the game and listen to the lamentations of the clinically depressed (because I wont warn them whats coming) Image IPB. lol

Ive seen Deus Ex: HR mentioned a number of times and I have to say while those endings supremely disappointed me (only replayed it for the pacifist achievement) it was a prequel that lead to the original so I understood why they couldn't have finite conclusions.

So a question to those who have completed it...

Is it a case of not having and endings as in none of the remaining threads are resolved and leaves many questions un answered? Or is it just a terrible ending due to writing as in all questions are answered but in an unsatisfactory fashion? Or is it a combination of the two where it seems the writers ultimate goal was to insult the players intelligence with some half-hearted attempt at something that if handled correctly could have worked nicely?

This pretty much. The ending comes out of nowhere, it has no relation to the Mass Effect story, it makes no sense. It answers 1 question and opens up thousands more. All the choices you have ever made have no effect on it and it gives no closure to the character driven story that is Mass Effect. If you do not want to have all your hours of gameplay in 1,2 and 3 wasted and to lose all kind of replayability, do not finish the game.

And once again, I have to ask:

Do you not like open endings? Or is the execution of the endings that is poor? Or is that you do not how the fate or destiny of the galaxy or the Normandy crew or Shepard?

If the endings are poorly executed, how are they poorly executed?

And as much that you would have liked to see the fate of the galaxy etc. explained in the game's ending's, try using your own imagination and feel or think about how things could go from there. I'm sure Bioware has planned dlcs, expansions or maybe ME4? to explain what happens to all....

edit:

Do you not like the endings because they don't make any sense? And if so - how do they not make any sense?

Even if there's never going to be an ending patch - stop playing before the end, and watch the ending cinematics on youtube if you have to. The curiosity hurts less, if it's someone else and not the shepard you spent over a hundred hours and three games with.

Someone on page 5 in this thread something about playing New Game+ combined with multiplayer to get the real ending. If this is the case, then it really, really - not good, imo. And we as gamers shouldn't be required to play NG+ along with MP mode to get the game's real ending....if this indeed is true...

Multiplayer is not required to get all of the ending choices. It only makes things easier because the multiplayer will raise your overall preparation score the same way war assets will. You can still get the full required amount with just singleplayer.

The game guide says there's a secret ending available through NG+, but gave no details. I haven't seen anyone on the forums who is able to confirm that it exists.

There is no real ending, its just one of the many lies. I did a 100% playthrough on the first try and got 3 possible endings(you get 2 if you do bad). Then I went in the game folder and watched every single cutscene and they are all the same.

What exactly do you mean by a real ending? Is this an ending like in DA: Origins? Or in Star Wars, Return of the Jedi? In narrative or story terms, these are called closed endings; all is well with the world again. The structure and stability etc. e.g. the King - has been restored and life's gone on again.

Now, in ME3 - and in DA2 - as far as I can, tell the endings seem to be, in narrative or story terms,
open endings. This is a completely fair and allowed mode to end a game or a story or a book.... Granted it doesn't happen as much in games as it does in book and movies....yet...

But again:
Does the ending not many sense, in the story and spoiler forums I have seen people claiming this because of this and that. Ob Obsidian's board I have seen people making a few posts said that they didn't like the endings because the made abselutely no sense whatsoever....both from a science point of view and from within the game's context...

That's what I simply don't understand. Why will you be pleased? Do you enjoy being hurt? I certainly don't. I honestly don't understand why some people are happy with what we've got (and that's putting aside the whole big issue of the complete lack of alternatives - ME2's ending could at least run the range from really miserable to pretty heroic depending upon how you played, and that was good).

There's a room for harsh endings. There's a room for downer endings. There's a room for bittersweet endings. I get that, I can explain it.
But what ME3 delivers, is none of these things. The problems that at least I have with the endings, have nothing to do with them being dark. They're completely ill-thought out (or utterly sadistic if someone at some point indeed invested half a thought.) But much more importantly, they're utterly senseless. Nothing is explained, nothing is reasoned - diabolo ex machina via space magic, contradicting among other things, every physical law ever established, and the entire plot of the series so far. Worse yet - they're a flipped middle finger, a proof that nothing done over the course of three games mattered in the slightest, and to top it off, all three endings are the exact same cutscene, with slightly different coloring.

Frankly, there is no way other then plain denial, to finish these games and say "This is closure, and I am pleased with the ending." It's not even possible to adequately explain what the hell happened, after watching the cinematic.

Look lets no kid our selves about this. Yes the ending sucks hard. There is no good ending nor bad ending. It's just as poorly thought out as the ending of Fallout 3.

The only way Bioware would even consider a "Fix" for the end is if the game reviewers who gave the game perfect scores started to change the ratings due to the end of the game.

Honestly if the writing wasn't really good up the the end, we all wouldn't care how it ended. We'd just move on to the next game instead. But the writing has been really good so the crap endings just ruin all the emotions we invested into the series up to this point.

So we either start harassing the reviewers to change the scores or stop ****ing about it to the developers and each other. So either stop complaining about the end or start putting those complaints where it would effect the sales of the game. On game review sites or in buyer reviews on Amazon and the like.

There might be some other things that'll prompt them. With it being tied to Origin they'll have a good idea about how many people replay the game. The real crunch time will be to see how well DLC sells. Rather ironically my hope lies in the money people for once. If a change will get more sales it may be forced. I feel rather dirty for saying that though, considering how often that has been used to produce something different from what I would like (such as the autodialogue).

This is everything I could say about the ending. The people who saw and authorized the developing of these endings need to be held responsible, and we have yet to see any responce from them.

Try to take the OP's advice. I thought I was being trolled and played the game anyway. I bought two copies, one for me, one for my son.

They're not trolling you. You've been warned.

The ending per se is not bad, it's a fitting ending for Shepard's epic journey. It's the delivery that is garbage.
When you reach the point of no return the game falls spectacularly short of expectations, i loses depth and attachment you had developed in the prevous games and hours of ME3...and until that point it is a bloody fantastic game. There is no depth and I was expecting this kind of ending but the extent to which Bioware has gone, the sheer lack of any effort of context is just like being stabbed in the back by your best friend and lef to die bleeding helplessly...it is this bad if you ask me. The Deus Ex ending has the same feeling, but it's a great and fitting ending...but it was so poorly executed people hated it. But look at DX3, it has a poor and simple ending yet the conclusion is so nicely executed you don't even care the story was kinda weak. Yes trilogies and story arcs have often very disappointing endings but ME3 is not the case. The ending is fitting, but there is no difference appart from 5-6 minor, really minor details. Now I understand Bioware wants all of to buy the new games, DLC or whatever...but wouldn't it have been nice to have just a couple of answers to give us a feeling of closure.
The last 2 hours are a shame for a Mass Effect game, and the last 10 minutes killed a lot of good faith in the franchise and in Bioware.

Plus strangely it feels less polished than the 1st or the 2nd game in all aspects...RPG wise the 1st was much better, action wise the 2nd is still unbeaten in my heart.

Bioware, why did you have to sell your sould to the Devil?!?

Delusion. If they release these endings, this means they were fine with them and this is just how it was meant to end. They will never rewrite new endings just for unhappy people on BSN.

I haven't even started the game( bought it already) but all this outrage about the ending is disheartening. The main reason I like ME in general is because of the lore+ Character interaction and choice making. I wouldn't mind a tragic ending but I would have least liked to get a sense of closure like what happens to the universe after I've left it. But no sense of closure and many potholes why?. I do understand that Boiware wanted to end with something unexpected that's not always good. I believe a star wars like ending would have been more fitting since that in my opinion is the theme of ME which is hope and being victorious against impossible odds(going to a suicide mission where everyone survives if you put the effort). While it is not realistic but if ME was really realistic Shepard would have lost a looong time ago.

No way the Bioware is going to change the endings, probably releases some DLC, which takes place in the middle of the games.Damn 99% of the game is superb, but the ending, i thought we'd find some closure, but instead more questions.

I hope you're wrong.
I will listen to the OP. To tell you the truth, Is is my own decision before I came here, but I think is is a good advice.
I dont want to destroy my ME serie.

There are so many ppl depressed snd dissapointed, and not even one happy ( very few accepts it, but happy about it - no, not meet one). It has its source - crappy ending.

If BIoware do not fix it - so there is no more my money for them. And I think I'm not alone. And I'm deadly serious.

I will wait for my good ending. With hope they still care about their fans.

I could even pay big money for this. With no regrets ( I know it is not fair, but is better than nothing)

If they want to see more money from me - the only way is the BETTER ENDING DLC. I will buy it first. And nothing else till it comes. NOTHING. This is a promise.

So I will play this great game with hope and wait for the right ending the game deserves. If I will not get it... they could count me out.
