Laser Painter Fight = laughably bad design

Wow, really?  Who came up with the following bad ideas, and then decided to make a giant sloppy pile of awfulness?

1. Contain the player within a small, flat area with no cover.

2. Give the player a brand new weapon whose properties were almost completely unknown up until this critical and dramatic moment.

3.  Chase player around with laser beam that - while it can be outran, it can not be 'dodged', which is (up to this point) the primary means of evading rockets, gernades, and other dangerous enemy attacks.

4. Create a laser-painter that somehow works like filling a glass up with water.  I might also add this mechanism is different from any other laser-painter in any other game the player is likely to have any experience with.  That's because the idea that you have to hold the laser on target makes sense.  The idea that you can 'designate a little, then come back later' is just silly.

So, this particular dramatic and climactic moment was utterly shredded for me.  After my eleventh death, I even stopped trying just so I could come here and commiserate about it.

Still love the game, and there are plenty of other amazing moments.  But by contrast, this one is just... eesh... it's bad.

Really? I thought that was awesome. But I picked up very quickly how to dodge the beam.

It can be dodged, just keep moving. Every thing is gonna be okay.

The last trigger pull with the slow-mo effect completely failed on the first time. It charged the thing at the normal, slow pace, and I got obliterated. The second time, it charged in like two seconds and I won. It was really off-putting. Also, having to do it four times was a bit much.

It got pretty frustrated because I thought you had to prime the beam all in one go, which is impossible later in the fight :/

Yeah, actually just played this scene the first time not even two minutes ago. Didn't like it too much. Loved the renegade interrupt afterwards. But yeah, this sequence was kind of meh, I thought.

Eh. I liked it. To each his/her own. :)

Just keep going side to side, you'll get it.

Shepard's crippled walk sequence near the end was more annoying.

This is basically it. Once you realize it charges per aim it gets incredibly easy since all you have to do is run all the way to the other side and aim.

This also happened to me one of my many failed attempts.  Everything slowed way down and all I could do was stand there and pull the trigger fruitlessly until I died.  Woo! Go Reapers!

I've died plenty (playing on hardcore) - but this... bleh... this section really just stinks.

honestly the entire rannoch series of missions was the most emotional and fun time i have ever had playing a video game. The reaper battle, legion's very meaningful/emotional death, and the various conversations with tali (LI), + the best soundtrack. all little and major things all came together in those awesome missions. If only i could say the same for the endings....

Oh wow, that happened to me too. I died on the slow mo part because it was taking so long and by time I realized where the damn beam was, it was too late then was mad when I had to start all over... but then was quickly realived when the slow mo part only lasted like two seconds and poof, I was done.

I figured that part out pretty quickly. It was a really good boss fight, but also very standard. Boss does slow attack, you roll out of the way and continue to hurt the red spot.

"The idea that you can 'designate a little, then come back later' is just silly"

This is really my beef with the whole thing. That was at least responsible for half my deaths. It's not really a bossfight, and doesn't use any of the actual game mechanics - why not just give me the dramatic moment without the counter-intuitive trial and error?

You don't have to either run or dodge, strafing while firing is sufficient.

Hey! following four more unsuccessful attempts at it - it's worth noting:

This is one more reason why "Roll" and "Sprint" on the same button is dumb. If you turn to the side and sprint, but instead roll - you roll either towards or away from the reaper, which is right in the path of the laser and you die. Again.

Once you realise the trick, dodging is actually very easy. I died a lot of times figuring it out and it was getting fustrating, but once I realised it, it only took a single attempt when I reloaded to watch the Geth-Quarian resolution again.

It happened to me too, I was so confused that I thought if you held both mouse buttons (on PC) that the laser "charged" faster. I died like 5 times during this sequece because there was absolutely no instruction and previous habits did not apply to a sequence litterally minutes afterwards.

It was like learning how to shoot the gun, do that 3 times over, then do it differently for the last part.

Alright, finally figured it out:

-You have to aim at the center of the circular 'targeting' bracket, not - I repeat, NOT - at the actual red-dot on the Reaper.

So, to be clear, you have to aim at the interface - not at the giant monstrous robot. Just aim at the pretty blue circle.... sigh...

I just spammed the barrel role thing sideways and targeted the Reaper all the time . Got a shot off everytime the beam stopped.
