With endings like that. Sure the BW writing staff should take a it for such terribly flat, boring, & uninspiring endings, but there is another group out there who should take some heat for this. The professional game reviewers!

IGN 9.5
Gamespot.com 9.0
USAToday 4/4 stars
MSNBC 10/10

etc etc etc etc

After that disastrous of an ending does ME3 deserve that kind of a score? I'm not sure. The high points of ME3 (From the beginning up until Shepard was lifted up on the Citadel) were so high, it was fantastic. I knew characters were going to die & I knew it would be far froms sunshine & roses but that is the most emotionally unsatisfying ending I can remember from a video game series. I felt hollow after it all, like all my efforts had been wasted poring into this bland pathetic ending.

The writers shouldn't take this as a critique of how it ended for Shepard in a sense, I don't mind that he died. In fact I expected it as one of the possible outcomes.

The only thing I liked about the ending is that if you choose "Synthesis" you get a cutscene after the credits in which an Old Man & a child (Well after the events of ME3) are walking in the snow & the child asks "Tell me another story about Shepard." That made me feel as if I'd left a real legacy behind, that the events of ME3 mattered to the galaxy long after my Shepard was gone.

I don't know... I just didn't expect the ending to be so meh. So pointless.

They didn't have to fairy tale the ending (Happily ever after 75-90% of the prominent characters survive & all go for drinks after... for example Return of the Jedi) ..... I never watched Lost (Thankfully) but is this what Lost viewers felt like?

This. 99% of the game is amazing. Only the ending after Hackett called sucked.

They have to review the product. From a technical standpoint, ME3 is an amazing game. The ending is the only bad part. It ruins it for a lot of us, but as a product, it has that one glaring flaw.

The same reason why Dragon Age 2 got top scores by reviewers.

I JUST finished the game like 5 minutes ago. I loved the game. I'm a little iffy on the ending but the game is still an amazing game. An ending can't take that away.

Right but I've seen amazing games with awful endings get docked one, two, even three points because the ending is where much of it is at.

Imagine if Mass Effect 3 is a little bit like the Matrix movies: Everything up to the run to the portal is Matrix 1, amazing, intense, fun. The conversation with the Illusive Man is Matrix 2.... Ok but starting to fall apart a bit but still playable still good.

The conversation w/Catalyst is the final Matrix movie. Complete garbage.

Folks have it right: The game itself is amazing. The endings...... not so much.

It most certainly can. Had I known the ending was this ****ty then I wouldn't have bought the game, I can tell you that.

Personally I'd give Mass Effect 3 an 8.5, mainly for the endings. The game is absolutely amazing in terms of gameplay, and it's quite good on the story front up until the ending.

OP: This is what lost viewers felt like. This is also what NGE viewers felt like, and what viewers of other shows that went all crazy in the end generally felt like.

Amazing game minus the endings for the majority of people. People saying otherwise (that the whole game is bad because of the ending) are delusional.

Probably because the only thing wrong with the game is the last 5 minutes of it. Everything up until that point revels in excellence.

However I feel like the reviews were just, because it was an amazing game, but I feel like it really they should've been slightly lower because the endings just say "**** you", and totally disregard the premise the entire series was founded on which is choice. Yeah you get to choose between 3 basic endings, but overall they're the exact same.

Cry more. I play a game to have fun. I loved the story but like I said the ending was pretty iffy for me. I can live with it though. Apparently most people are just so shocked and shaken up about the endings that its ruining their lives.

A bad ending does NOT make the entire game bad. That is just being childish. Stop being childish people.:wizard:

Ya the game was great up until the ending.  But the reviewers are probably not as invested into the game like the fans are since they have to move on to other games and probably don't make connections like the fanbase.

Because, even with the stiff animations and terrible mission journal (seriously, no milestones anymore?), it's an amazing game with a disappointing last-minute decision tree.

Also reviewers only get to play the first hour before their editors kick down the door and begin beating them for an article. Have to cut them some slack, playing games as a part of work comes with as many pitfalls as it does benefits.

This.  It comes down to how harshly one weighs the last 10 minutes to the first 30 hours.  In more personal statements, though, I have seen reviewers basically say that the 99% of the game is absolutely great, it's just that last  1% that is terrible.

In the end, I just really hate that that is what we're left with, especially when even something as simple as just stopping right before that last sequence would have been an improvement.

That's actually a really good comparison. I feel similarly about the Matrix movies.
