After that disastrous of an ending does ME3 deserve that kind of a score? I'm not sure. The high points of ME3 (From the beginning up until Shepard was lifted up on the Citadel) were so high, it was fantastic. I knew characters were going to die & I knew it would be far froms sunshine & roses but that is the most emotionally unsatisfying ending I can remember from a video game series. I felt hollow after it all, like all my efforts had been wasted poring into this bland pathetic ending.
The writers shouldn't take this as a critique of how it ended for Shepard in a sense, I don't mind that he died. In fact I expected it as one of the possible outcomes.
The only thing I liked about the ending is that if you choose "Synthesis" you get a cutscene after the credits in which an Old Man & a child (Well after the events of ME3) are walking in the snow & the child asks "Tell me another story about Shepard." That made me feel as if I'd left a real legacy behind, that the events of ME3 mattered to the galaxy long after my Shepard was gone.
I don't know... I just didn't expect the ending to be so meh. So pointless.
They didn't have to fairy tale the ending (Happily ever after 75-90% of the prominent characters survive & all go for drinks after... for example Return of the Jedi) ..... I never watched Lost (Thankfully) but is this what Lost viewers felt like?

This. 99% of the game is amazing. Only the ending after Hackett called sucked.

Imagine if Mass Effect 3 is a little bit like the Matrix movies: Everything up to the run to the portal is Matrix 1, amazing, intense, fun. The conversation with the Illusive Man is Matrix 2.... Ok but starting to fall apart a bit but still playable still good.
The conversation w/Catalyst is the final Matrix movie. Complete garbage.

I JUST finished the game like 5 minutes ago. I loved the game. I'm a little iffy on the ending but the game is still an amazing game. An ending can't take that away.
It most certainly can. Had I known the ending was this ****ty then I wouldn't have bought the game, I can tell you that.

OP: This is what lost viewers felt like. This is also what NGE viewers felt like, and what viewers of other shows that went all crazy in the end generally felt like.

Cry more. I play a game to have fun. I loved the story but like I said the ending was pretty iffy for me. I can live with it though. Apparently most people are just so shocked and shaken up about the endings that its ruining their lives.
A bad ending does NOT make the entire game bad. That is just being childish. Stop being childish people.

Also reviewers only get to play the first hour before their editors kick down the door and begin beating them for an article. Have to cut them some slack, playing games as a part of work comes with as many pitfalls as it does benefits.

This. It comes down to how harshly one weighs the last 10 minutes to the first 30 hours. In more personal statements, though, I have seen reviewers basically say that the 99% of the game is absolutely great, it's just that last 1% that is terrible.
In the end, I just really hate that that is what we're left with, especially when even something as simple as just stopping right before that last sequence would have been an improvement.

That's actually a really good comparison. I feel similarly about the Matrix movies.magor1988x wrote...
Right but I've seen amazing games with awful endings get docked one, two, even three points because the ending is where much of it is at.
