What's up with the Legendsav.pcsav file?

Loved the game!  Currently archiving my save game files and noticed that in addition to the Autosave, Quicksave, and the named saves, there's a Legendsav.pcsav.  This appears only to have been generated on my first completion (synthesis).  My other two completions did not generate or modify that save file.  I tried watching the modification time and cutting the file and pasting it elsewhere.

I'm not sure it was generated by my completion either... besides jumping into that folder a couple times over the last few days to copy out my older saves, I haven't really dug around in there.  Also strange is that it seems that the pcsav file was generated several hours earlier in the day... totally confused.

I'm guessing I should save my Autosave file and the named files... but what's up with the Legendsav.pcsav?

Oh, wow, who left this post here? I wonder if I should message one of the devs and ask for an answer...

Hmm I only did one playthrough and got this new savefile. Chose the destruction ending. It's strange that you only get this on your first completion.

There's that popup screen at the end of the game that says Shepard is now a legend, and to be ready for future downloadable content. I wonder if there's going to be something that requires a special end-game save?

I saw that pop up too... yet I only got the Legendsav on one completion. I was confused. Also strange was that the legendsav seemed to have been created several hours before I finished the game.

I'll just have to.... play it again. :-D

maybe subsequent completions modify it?

IIRC, that's generated before you enter the Cerberus base for the first time.

Good, question, but I checked that.  I copied the original file out of the save folder, finished the game again with a different ending.  Same last modified time on both files.  Same file size.

I'm stumped!

Hmmmm!  Good catch.  That would sort of line up with when I went into the Cerberus base.  I wonder why they would dump out a seperate file though?  Maybe that's the file future content will use?

It's an autosave that doesn't overwrite itself. Couple reasons for this - first, it means they can dump you BACK to that point after the ending cinematic so you can do pre-destruction DLC, second, it means they can use the normal autosave feature during the final ~2 hours of the game. And believe me, on insanity, you will NEED it.

I went through all of the endings and my legend save was updated accordingly, the last modified date is correct for my last playthrough.

Confirmed. And strangely, it doesn't get overwritten in subsequent playthroughs.

Mine has never updated. It still shows the date from my original completion.

I'm not entirely sure what's going on then... Because I finished my game on the 10th of March and on the 11th I went through all of the other endings and the legend save has the date 11th of March, not 10th.The hour doesn't match as well, because the saves from the later endings were made two hours later than the legend save was modified.

Mine updated this morning when I restarted from a save just before going into the Illusive Man's base with a higher Galactic Readiness score (so a higher EMS).

Very strange indeed. I have no idea what creates it or what modifies it then.

Maybe it's like a standard end-game save from previous games that could be imported into a future ME game? Maybe you get another ending possibility on NG+? People have mentioned that one, but they say that the Shepard breathing thing is it and that you get it on the first playthrough anyway and that there's nothing new even if you do a second run, so I really don't know what to think about it atm.

EDIT: And after seeing the more recent posts above mine...yep, still puzzled.

Good info, all. Thank you BSN-hivemind!

I'm going with the "loop back" save answer. I'm a save-****, so it won't be much use to me. I have two saves from after the Legendsav already. With every save archived, I can only assume I'll be fine for the upcoming stand alone expansion pack. ;-)
