I could see that as a possible cause. This wouldn't be the first time that there was a miscommunication with Sony and PSN in making DLC and patches available, and having multiple versions and regions tends to complicate the issue exponentially. I am surprised however that it took over a day to get a response from Bioware staff, if at least to recognize that there was an issue requiring investigation, especially so soon after the game's release. Good luck getting everything sorted.

Sony can be a bit slow when it comes to releasing patches for different version, but I'm pretty sure Mass Effect 3 isn't hosted by Sony, so the cross region play shouldn't be at their fault.

That said, I'm really curious to see how this plays out. So far it surely left me with a sour taste for when it comes to multiplayer.

I recently ran "Software Update" in the PS3 XMB, there was an update available that my friend had not updated to as of yet. I believe it was 4.11. He is updating now, I will then proceed to join both a public and private lobby hosted by him. Hopefully this will be the root of our issue.
I will let you all know what I find.

that is a PS3 system update, this wont have any effect on the game. Disc users need a patch to give them ver 1.02 of the game to make it so they can play with people who downloaded it.

Well let us know anyway. Cause even when both disc users are on the same version it still gives that error if they are both from a different region.

Milereb, PSN is the distribution mechanism for patches. It doesn't need to host gameplay for the issue to occur. Compatibility begins at the version as a safeguard for consistent gameplay. If region restriction is going on then that is something Bioware should already know about. I can't speak to the region issue because I have never experienced that. my compatibility issues follow along this patch discrepancy.

I think this patch business is an honest mistake, but I would like to know what these patches are fixing.

I know that Sony distributes the patches via the PSN and I find it unfortunate that therefore I cannot play with people from my own region who have the digital version. I was mainly commenting on it in relation to wantsumcandii's post.

Because the whole EU versus US thing was an issue even before the 1.02 patch was released for the digital version and I think that has basically to do with what servers the game connects to.

And exactly, if region restriction is in play, shouldn't they just come out front with that? Isn't that a very simple answer for Bioware, just yes or no..

yeah but still they can come and say that they have an update ready and sony will put it out soon not just its up to sony now back off because they still have to know to do to make the patch and all that noise to fix things like this

Having my mates upgrade to 4.11 on the psn xmb did NOT resolve my issues. will be standing by for a fix, or news there of.

Called PSN customer service, both him and his supervisor said it was an EA problem, to call them. Sat on hold for 45 minutes with their cs hotline and hung up. Hopefully all the companies involved don't pass the buck.

This has been going on for three days. What the heck is wrong with EA, Bioware, and Sony that they'd rather point fingers at eachother than actually give their customers a properly working product?

well im just going to push this back up the list of problems. it seems like this 1.02 patch has just added to the list of problems and caused a bit of added confusion. so just to recap and confirm so bioware is aware of all problems and can look at them separately:

-disc users and digital download users cannot play together because disc base users dont have access to ver 1.02

-BLUS users and BLES users cannot play together even when on the same version because they get the 'different versions' dialog that prevents them from joining the lobby.

I mean it is 2012, how does something like this happen? Even more inexcusable is the fact that it has been like this since Friday.

well i played with disk user last night from diffrent regions but they said they can only play with downloaded player so looks like the patch fixes the region problem but still can play with my friends from america

now i am wondering with how much time this taking are the people that downloaded the game going to a patch of 1.03 when the people who have the disc finally get the 1.02 never fixing the problem for us
