I think so, yes. Apart from the endings, the only major flaw is the amount of autodialogue, which makes me feel it's not my Shepard at times.Spectre_Shepard wrote...
I honestly think so. Up until the little white platform started to carry shepard away, that was the greatest gaming experience I've ever had, no question. ME1 was love at first sight, ME2 was the world's greatest second date, but ME3 surpassed them both for me up until the last 10 minutes.
so, if you can black out the ending for a moment, how would you rank ME3 in the trilogy?
If you IGNORE THE ENDING, is ME3 the best game in the series?

I would say yes.
The gameplay is excellent... a few cover slip-ups notwithstanding. The only thing I DON'T like is the shared cooldown they introduced in ME2.
The story, up until the end, is engaging, engrossing, and, aside from the necessary orientation of the first 3-5 hours, well-paced and sequitious.
The "controversial" inclusion of a co-op multiplayer was smooth and a very plesant surprise; I believe it came out MUCH better than anyone believed it would.
Overall, this was a great game except, in my opinion for the overtly open-ended ending.
I get that we shouldn't and maybe can't know what our crew is gonna do with the new life we've given them, but dammit it's the end of one of the greatest trilogies ever. Please give us somehting a little more concrete.
We know it's all the rage, sorry, "trendy," sorry again, "artistic," to have an ending be mysterious and interpretative, but in this case, that's why I've played 2 prior games, each of which taking at least 25 hours to complete a single playthrough. In the end, I've invested at least 75-85 hours on EACH complete playthorough of this game. Give me something. Show me what I accomplished.
From what I've heard, the "leaked script" ending was closer to what most expected the final decision to be and, I think we all would deem, more fitting.
So, I believe they actually had a chance to end this on the highest note ever, but slipped as they reached for the final precipice on otheir mountain climb.

Asking me to ignore the ending of a trilogy is like asking me to bake a cake with salt instead of sugar. Or tell a knock-knock joke without a punchline.
The whole point of the last part of a trilogy is the ending. Many, many producers/directors have failed to see this time and time again. See also: the Matrix series.

Up until the ended ME3 was one of the best games I've ever played and after the ending I can't bring myself to play it again.

Yes, it is very good game. The best i ever played, actually, and i play a lot.
I admit, that i would prefer more dialogues and less auto-dialogues. And there are some plot-holes that i don't quite understand. Other than that - 9,5/10 by my rating.
And then ending comes and rating falls.

I thought the game was amazing, minus the ending. The game as a whole is like a relationship with an Ardat-Yakshi. Everything leading up to the last final moment was fantastic and beautiful. Then critical mission failure.

Yes, minus the endings it was.
But it's so hard to ignore the endings, even to type that last sentence. Those endings were supposed to be the culmination of everything I had done, curing the Genophage, uniting the Geth/Quarians, etc. The endings basically nulled all that, and if I go back and replay it, I'm going to wonder to myself "Why am I putting any effort in to this?" because the endings will come back to mind.

If you ignore the end... it is absolutely, without a doubt, the best game in the series. It has beautiful character development, resolution to both old stories and stories that start within the game, the world is visually stunning and the audio masterfully done. The story moves along at a good pace, with a wonderful tempo and great moments of hilarity, sadness, tenderness, and just flat out badassery throughout the entire game.
You really do feel like you're bound by the chains of responsibility in saving countless billions, if not trillions, from dying. You see the joys of things done well and the pain when they fail. The acting work sets a new bar that all other games should be lucky to even get close to.
Setting aside the conclusion it is, by far, the best game I have ever played - beating out Half-Life 2, Portal 2, and titles of that caliber.

The problem with it being such a great game is that it raised my expectations for the finale, and that hope was crushed. I would have been fine with a sad but conclusive ending in which I could see all my choices play out. As is, the only choice I really get for the ending is what color the explosion is.

Easily yes. I felt more involved and more emotions playing this game than any other Bioware game yet. It was polished and Shepard FINALLY showed emotions beside 'I'm a hero, I'm neutral, I'm bad-ass watch me interrupt you!' But it's funny how the ending felt like it destroyed years of replaying and perfecting endings for an A, B, C choice.

Well in alot of aspects yes, its really a huge improvement. However Mass Effect 3 seem to concentrate on Liara more than other squadmates, and the fact that Bioware was too lazy to show Tali's face and create a photoshopped picture......... Otherwise, really entertaining!

If the game cut to the credits with Shep and Anderson just looking at Earth? By far the best game in the series.
As it is now, I'd call it the worst in the series simply because the ending destroyed all meaning in everything you've done.

I would definatly say that ME3 is probably the best game of the trilogy if you just dropped the last 5 minutes of it off. I mean that would make a very obscure ending, but you could at least imagine up your own at that point. In all seriousness though, it brings great gameplay with a few minor flaws that can get annoying at some points, adds a fun but tedious multiplayer (if you just play it for the War Readiness) and the story is pretty top notch. A lot of the moments in the game are very memorable and I will probably remember them when I compare them to other set pieces in other games or even later Bioware games, I miss the 'neutral' options in conversations and the freedom to 'Investigate' of my own free will but neither of those ruined my experience in Mass Effect 3.

Everything up to the ending was perfect. They handled every plotline flawlessly.
