Although the endings, especially the ending I chose (Synthesis) didn't make a whole lot of sense... the mechanics of it moved me in a way. Having heard a little about the endings beforehand up until the point where I had to make the choice I was considering just choosing the ending where Shepard lives. This is my Shepard after all, I'm very attached to her.
But, in the end, after all was said and done, it became more important to me to do what was true to my Shepard's character than to make sure she lives. She respected EDI and Legion's individuality and right to live, she made peace between the Quarians and Geth, she got the whole galaxy working together and would have wanted to keep it that way. So I chose Synthesis. And before the fridge logic of the plotholes hit me, I felt really proud of my character, proud to have played as her all this time and bring her to this point. I think that's a positive emotional response. And it's an emotional response that only a video game could accomplish.
This. Choosing synthesis, for my Shepard, was the only option. Not only did he respect EDI and Legion, he LIKED them and considered the both of them his friends. Really, my biggest complaint would be that we don't get resolution at the end, just an ending. If we saw the consequences of assembling the largest fleet in recorded history and then, with the destruction of the relays, leaving them stranded at Earth, not to mention the fate of the people that we've spent three games forging relationships with, I would find the endings more enjoyable because then at least it MEANS something.
