Come on, that sounds like laziness. :P

Texmod can open like 50 files at once. Watch the following video:

There are a lot of different modders generating content. So getting it all together would prove not only difficult, but LARGE. And once again putting all the files into a single .TPF is a BAD idea. Not everyone's system can handle all the mods simultaneously. Furthermore not everyone wants them all. Poeple need to be able to pick and choose what mods they want to use. Both Smartek and I have M-96 Mattock mods. You might like his more than mine, or vice versa. He's actually got an N7 version of it and I think a dark version. You might like those. Others don't like them because they use too much artistic license.

Some people don't need a mod for Kaiden because he's not alive in their save games. So they need Ashley instead. Why waste the VRAM on a mod you'll never see? Whatabout multiplayer? Some mods are really only applicable to that. Why load all of that stuff and eat up resources, (and increase game loading time) for content you don't need for that gaming session. What about a lean group of files just for multiplayer?

From the author's perspective it gets even less manageable. Most of us had no experience doing this until we started doing it. As we've learned more we've gone back and updated older mods to look better. I'm especially bad about doing that. I've got probably 5 or more versions of Ashley out there. Each better than the last. So if I put all my stuff together, then I'd have to redo the large download to include updates which are frankly too frequent to make worth while. It's worse as a single .TPF and still bad as a .zip with all my mods together, even changing one or two out there and there.

For these reasons people need the control separate files offer.

And as that video shows, queueing up the files you want is pretty easy. Also you can just leave Texmod running most of the time as it doesn't use any real resources unless the game is running.

Is there a proper texture mod for the uniform that Shepard is wearing in the beginning? The one I found only has the texture of the uniform before the attack of the reapers not after its torn apart.

Thanks smarteck. Does texmod require ram or vram? Because I have 8gigs of ram and 1gig of vram. I'll be getting a 4gb GTX680 soon so I hope I'll be able to load more textures.

I'm running 50+ mods with 4gb of RAM and 1gb of VRAM with film grain and 4x AA without difficulties, so I'd guess you'll be good.

Hey guys, it's my first post in this thread but I've been watching it for a while, and so I'd better start off by saying: Thanks so much for all of these!

Now that's out of the way, I've been having a go at making some mods myself and I'm currently working on a version of the Scorpion (the heavy pistol). I finished the regular texture (colour map or something) and it looks good, but I wanted to mod the normal map as well (I plan on changing the lighting and stuff later) but I'm running into problems with it in game. Whenever I change it I keep getting these weird seams on the top of the weapon. You can see what I'm saying here
I've tried using crazybump to make a new map as well as the NVIDIA plugin for Photoshop, they both make this dumb seam thing. Also, if I take the original map and open it in PS then if I do nothing to it and save it, the same thing can happen. I assume it's something to do with how I'm saving it, but I've followed all the directions that I can find :(

Any suggestions for what I'm doing wrong would be appreciated!

That's an issue with your normal map. The secret is to copy the red and green channels out to a separate layer, darken them (150%, then again at 100% in Photoshop) then copy the layer back to the correct channel. Data for the maps for this game is only stored in the red and green channels. Also, at least with the settings I use, my normal maps do not work unless I save them as DXT3 .DDS files or DXT5. DXT1 compression with no alpha channels does NOT work for me. (Given data is stored in the red and green alpha channels, no format which removes the alpha channel makes any sense.)

Dead meat could you by any chance make a recolor of your collector armor texture. Please can you also make a version which has the brown replaced by blackish/ dark grey. Please

EDIT

Thanx, i look forward to it.

Both. The total memory available for video is a mix between RAM and Vram (shared system memory + Dedicated video memory).

How many textures can you load at once? Texmod wont accept all the textures you have made (without counting mp ones) I hope my 680 arrives before Leviathan comes out :/ Anyways thank you again for the amazing work.

Well if you already ordered a GTX 680, I'd hope it would arrive before Leviathan comes out given it releases in 9 days or something like that. I've never had anything take more than 3-5 business days to get to me.

In any case there isn't a magic number for how many mods you can load at a given time for a given configuration. Display resolution, graphics settings, memory configuration etc. all factor in. I can load about 60 mods without any issue but after that it gets dicey. The GTX 680 4GB doesn't allow me to load anymore than the Radeon HD 7970 did despite having another gigabyte of RAM. This is with 3 monitors enabled and 4xMSAA + FXAA. I do not use the FXAA tool as it caused me nothing but problems.

In single player I am using 64 (using Master file C for objects and levels).
In multiplayer I use 34 (also using Master file C for objects and levels)

No problems so far. :D

From what I can see people tend to start having problems between 60 and 70 textures which is what I've experienced on my own systems.

Yes I've had problems with loading over 60 mods. Maybe making some mods into one .tpf file would help :/ I'll see what's going to happen after my 680 arrives. Damn Bioware, why can't they make modding more user friendly?

Nope. Doesn't help. I have to wonder if Texmod simply has issues with more than x number of mods. Again going from 3GB of VRAM on a system with 12GB of system memory to one with 4GB of VRAM and 32GB of system RAM didn't change how many mods I could load. At all.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share something I've been working on. This is my first attempt at a texture mod, so I figured I'd start with the Scorpion pistol, which I don't think anyone's done yet.
Link to project page

Here are some comparison shots between the original and the mod:

I obviously took some artistic liberties with some of the textures but I think it looks alright. Since this is my first attempt, tell me what you think.
Also, I haven't edited the normal map since I still haven't been able to get it to work properly, but if I get it to work I'll update the project page.

Thanks for the offer. I'll continue to have a play around with it and if I don't get anywhere then I'll send you a message.

I'm thinking maybe I'll have a go at the Indra now...

EDIT: And since I've just gone through the learning curve from knowing nothing to making a half decent texture, I think I might make a complete video tutorial for the whole process of making your own textures, to try and help anyone wanting to start their own mods. What do you guys think?

The texture looks good. Normal maps are actually the easiest part, but there is a trick to it as I stated earlier.
