Okay I figured out how to mod my own textures so I could mod the new armor.

Bit of a problem though. I cant get rid of the Cerberus logo despite having removed it in gimp. Is there another texture over it or am I doing something wrong?

Is in that manages the illumination or reflections, it should look something like this:

You can get rid of the Cerberus logo. But what comes with that is another set of problems. The reason you are still seeing it is that it is embedded in one or more of the other textures that make up that armor. Did you mod the lighting texture? Should be green and red originally. Possibly orange / red. This is the light map. There is also another one that has a bunch of soft lines and doesn't make a lot of sense. That one is the normal map. Did you edit that?

The thing is that most of the time it is necessary to retain some of the original normal map data. When doing so logos and other things will end up showing up despite them being removed from the main texture. You have a couple of options. One option is to edit the base normal map texture. Hard to do because you can't actually see all the details in it. Another option is to create an entirely new normal map and light map. This can be difficult to do depending on the complextity of the texture and your level of skill. If you replace the normal map entirely that can come with it's own set of problems. Namely the reflections and shadow properties of the original texture are lost. This can be a mixed bag. And sometimes even that doesn't work if an effect on a given armor is applied via something in the game engine rather than a texture.

Thanks, I just found the extra images before coming back here and when I tested it out the logos were very faded. Just have to work on them more.

Appreciate the help!

I tried uMod once.

I respected Texmod's flaws more afterward. : V

I doubt uMod will become "good" before Salt's project finishes.

Yes uMod definitely has its problems.  But it seems to work fine after a bit of a hassle setting it up, and it's currently the only way to get textures and connectivity at the same time for me.

Mass Effect 3 Alternate Appearance Pack... Srsly? I just love the default armor Smarteck made and I wear that only

(I also like another custom armor but it seems no one is interested in that so I'll pass bc it seems really complex)

Progress looks pretty nice so far , will you upload it when it's finished? ^_^

Edit: For those of you that have checked ,does the Ajax armor have the same maps as Kaidan's or Vega's alternate armor? (same diffuse, spec, normal map pattern; e.g. i've seen the maps are different for MP) It'd be amazing to remake if that's the case.

Okay so I finally got everything the way I wanted. There might still be a Cerberus imprint in certain lighting. If someone more skilled than I feels like taking care of it then by all means.

Yes, if someone wants to patch that Cerberus armour completely, I know a bunch of us would be greatly interested in it. :)

I need more information than that to be sure of the problem. But, what I'm going to guess is that the next part of that message is about the file being appended to? And I also take it that this happened in the V2 version of the mod? I guess you didn't go and read the project page. The way I've designed these mods are such that you need to install each version sequentially. It's unfortunate, but it saves me making and uploading these massive files each time.

Go to the project page, and this time read the description. Then go and download the V1 version and install that first.  So to answer your question, what I meant by "Try installing all previous versions first" is to "Try installing all previous versions first".

In the future go to the Bug Reports section of the project to report problems. It helps me keep track of what's going on.

PS: Re-reading this post, it seems a bit antagonistic. I'm not trying to be mean, but you should read information about a program before you complain about it not working.

EDIT: And what's with this alternate appearance DLC? I didn't hear about it at all before today. Looks kind of cool, though I doubt I'll be buying it.

@Salt: Has Cerb armor for Shepard. EDI gets a more...armor like suit, Liara gets an asari armor kind of thing. Looks good. Garrus just gets Terminus, but, I actually like how he looks in it. IMO: if you have leftover Bioware points, pick it up at some point. It's not like, amazing to the point of buying a bunch of points just for it.

I'm more looking forward to a Tali/Vega/VS or Javik pack. And maybe Specrre armor. Shep needs an armor with a Spectre logo like Vasir's.

To the OP, your work is astounding, I really hope BioWare or EA will pony up some funds to you and find a way to wrap all of your hard work into a single DLC that can be applied for PC users who are less than able to read long walls of text or follow the necessary steps.

Amazing work, really amazing.

@PKchu: Yeah, I think I'd rather wait for Omega anyway. I don't see much point in paying for a couple of outfits that I'll only see rarely in the future.

Hi. Just thought I'd add this info for anyone. I've been working on a reskin of the Ajax armor for myself.

Kaidan and James version of that armor = femshep = maleshep, all share the same texture layout. I mean, it's identical.

So it would be extremely easy for someone to just transfer the textures over.

I've fixed the normal map, so when I get done I'll post it.

Edit

I made a digicamo version of this armor for Kaidan and James ages ago, so I transferred it over to Shep.

If you like someone else's tex better, like Feral's, you can still use the normal map w/o the Cerberus emboss, just place their's before mine in load order.

Garrus's armor is my priority but I had planned on doing high quality versions of those textures in time and retaining their stock / intended look. The problem is that the textures are different for Vega, Shepard, and Kaiden. The model is the same with some scale changes but the textures are in fact different. Now if you want all three to look exactly the same, then yeah you can rename the files and your done. On the other hand if you want them to retain their original look but in higher quality then each must be done more or less from scratch. There may be parts of the texture that are the same but those areas will probably be minimal.

It would be great Bioware support us in this, but they are in silent about it and it seems that they will not say anything. :?
We are alone in this, but together (the gamers) have already made good progress. :D

Yeah, thanks for the clarification :)

What I meant was the layout was analogous. I also did not do anything to improve the quality, just the color scheme (I had never planned to post these before this DLC.) It would be great if someone else released actual hi-rez versions!

If you are still seeing the Cerberus logo then it's probably in the normal map. The only way to eradicate it is to alter that part of the normal map. Hard to do without it looking weird unless you just create a brand new normal map for it and disregard the old data. And as I said that often comes with a host of problems. Rarely will that work out in the end. You'll find that the stock normal map adds definition in ways that are hard to duplicate. This is why we tend to retain the base normal map data and overlay a new one on top to sharpen it up. You have to take care with that as well otherwise you'll get oddball artifacts in the final product. Some of which won't even show unless you get into certain lighting or certain angles.

And the settings you use for your normal map will vary with each texture you do. Some things can take a rather large scale setting of 5.0 or whatever. Others can barely handle 0.5 without looking weird. So again a lot of trial and error goes into this part of the process.

One of us will get to it. I'd like to do the Cerberus one but I'll probably put that off for awhile. I'd much rather do Garrus's first.
