Yes, and I am glad it was very few people. Are you seriously trying to guilt trip people for not giving you money? That is not cool, at all.

Yes, how obnoxious of him. It's good of you to do it for free, editing a 4GB DLC where a single texture project can take several hours to complete. Oh wait, you weren't planning on doing it? Oh, well the huge amount of talented Texmodders with infinite free time who are willing to invest countless hours into revamping a whole DLC will take care of it then.

...Oh, it probably wouldn't have got done if Smarteck hadn't done it? Damn.

Seriously, he probably barely covered the price of the DLC. He's made countless mods. And you're gonna whine about that and be glad it was very few people to help him pay for a DLC? He's probably making something like $0.11 an hour from anything extra. He could make significantly more money flipping burgers.

He wasn't even that rude or aggressive about asking for contributions toward the project. Are you that bothered by the most minor of solictations?

Ungrateful attitudes like this are why people stop making mods.

Wow, lot of hate all of a sudden. Challenger18 and MizzNaaa, thank you for sharing your opinions. However, if you guys don't like what happens here, then please move along. <_<

PK, while I do agree with you defending smarteck , it's best just to ignore people like them. Responding to them just gives them the attention they crave, and I personally don't want them to keep trying voice their opinions.

Clearly, I touched a nerve ...

Let me ask you, PKchu, is smarteck the only person you know who mods? I know of more people who mod I use their mods in stead, and they don't post their paypal account for people to give money to them for a DLC ... then complain about how few people contributed DESPITE having the funds to get the DLC. Really, if that was the goal all along, you made it, there is no reason to bring it up. This is a hobby, you get likes, you get praises. If you do not, but you see that people are viewing and downloading your stuff, then THAT is a valid reason to leave.

I don't tex mod but I know others who do. The others who tex mod don't complain about people not giving them money for their work. The other tex mods don't ask for money for their work. Same goes for people who mod other things. I don't ask for money for fanart that I put up. Fanfic writers don't ask for money when they put work up. You know why? In fact, when I have friends who need funds to help with a project, they are very grateful and humble. Not complaining about the money they did not receive, but instead grateful for the money they did receive because they know they NOT ENTITLED ANY of the money they got.

But no, I am apparently an ass for pointing this out and am an ungrateful freeloader (who does not use any of smarteck's mods) ... and is whining.

Sure, sure I am.

Yes. And? In the same way he is not owed anything, others are not owned anything. The sense of entitlement in terms of how someone else has to regulate their own release.

I've worked on a few texture projects. Me personally, would I have felt comfortable doing that? No, not really.

Perhaps my perspective is different because I have (casually) known Smarteck a long time, he is not a native English speaker, and assumed he was not attempting to guilt trip people or extort money from people, and well, frankly not communicating his appreciation to those who contributed very well. On a personal level, it kind of depresses me to see him get called out as a "douchebag" when from my interactions with him he's tended to be a very helpful and nice person. So, yes. There was some lashing out in that sense.

To the extent I personally replied about you, I was overbearing and overly condescending, and perhaps, read something into what you said that was not there. My apologies for personal attacks, those aren't really necessary.

Did go to where Origin's executable is and rename igo32.dll to igo32.bak?

I know your words are not directed at me, but I don't mean to attack Smarteck's person, I'm attacking his behavior. I stand by my opinion, what he did, asking for money like this is not right; what's even worst is that he thought it was okay to point out that only a 'few' people contributed.

He got the DLC, what's there to complain about unless he was 'not' asking for money for the dlc. My problem with this is that this gives modders a really bad name. And just to point out something, there are a lot of texmodders out there who do the same things smarteck does. As in make really good hi-res texmods,

Jean Luc is first to pop on my mind even though he stopped now.

Again, I'm not trying to undermine his work, I'm trying to shed light on the fact that his behavior should NOT be acceptable

As much as anyone is the master of their own universe, as a fellow modder it gives me a bad taste in my mouth.
I feel the act of asking for money in this circumstance is contradictory to the nature of modding. I think it reflects negatively on the modding community (aka the rest of the modders, including myself), especially when you (whether or not misunderstoold) come across as being disappointed as to the amount of donations gotten.

It is Smartech's right to ask for donations, as it is people's choice to give them. I however, do not want to be associated with the concept. But that's just me.

Look, that's fine. You're entitled your opinion. It's not something I would have chose to personally do, but on the opposite end, it didn't bother me very much. That's fine.

Honestly, I got a bit angry because of personal attachments and replied in bad mood already. There was a politer way to voice my opinion. I overreacted to the word "douchebag" in your post and a general sentiment I find annoying in other people that I read into challenger's post.

As for the quality of Smarteck's work - I think ended up patching up Kaidan's weird glow. And yeah, Garrus, one of his earlier mods, isn't his best work - you can see stuff he's done that older and some stuff that's newer. I do think he does produce a lot of good content that is better than the defaults - some of it might be "shoddy," but part of that is being willing to put yourself out there and learn the process through constructive criticism. All that said, I personally enjoy and appreciate a lot of stuff Smarteck's put out.

And yes, I have very much respect for Jean Luc and Ottemis. Anyone who is familiar with their work should be. That said, there's a lot of game to cover and work takes time. Jean-Luc hasn't done that many textures as of late, because, well, he has a life and it's a lot of work. It's not a competition to play favorites, its a community effort to make the game better.

Honestly though, I really don't want to fight or yell at anyone who doesn't share my opinion. I shouldn't have gone there.

@challenger18:

@MizzNaa:

I think both are out of context and making a bag of cats of my phrase " were very few people" ... what I wanted to express with that was that given the more than 300,000 downloads, I thought that the intension of help would have been higher ... But I was surprised to see that it was not ... was just that. No need to create an economic and moral drama.

On the other hand, if I've asked for help, it was not to get rich, and certainly, what I have received is several mass relays to bee a lot of money, but I am grateful to have been enough to get access to the DLC . :D

And finally, I would like to express to both, and who have the same misperception of the facts:

Of the people involved in this post, I shared this with only one user, but given the facts, I must clarify that for me it was not easy to ask for economic help to get access a simple DLC :?, sometimes life strikes, collapses our work, our studies, our health and our economy ... all together, it happened to me ...  and all the work and time that is reflected on page 1 of this post, arose because I search something to distract me while my mind regained strength to attempt live again ... and believe me that is not easy to write this words, but given the circumstances I felt it necessary to erase the bad thought that both expressed above.

This is not nearly complete me away from the last project, I will continue working on "Citadel HD Pack" and I'll do my best. I also thank all the sympathy that can be seen in the nearly 200 pages of this post, thanks. :)

@challenger18, @MizzNaa:

I'm not upset with you, sometimes when we do not know how things happen we create equivocal thoughts. I hope you both can enjoy all the work that has been shared in this post, AND IS FREE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you for apologizing, PKchu. My entent is not to bash, but smarteck's post did rub me the wrong way and perhaps I was overly harsh. As I said, I and others I know create content in different ways and we do not ask for money, for a game, a DLC or anything else. It is not our place to, and to be perfectly honest, it can quickly move down the "Cease and desist" road. As it stands though, I do not see this going any where and it was most likely pretty futile to post something in the first place, but I have a habit of calling out things that do not sit well with me for better or worse, right or wrong.

Edit: Smarteck, thanks for replying and shedding some light on the situation.

I can understand how if you thought it would influence how people view you, it would disturb you. My perception is that it would be forgotten in the sands of times pretty quickly and not "stain" the reputation of anyone involved. I think the thread was moving on from that topic anyway until now. But...yeah, differing perspectives are different, and if I personally thought the opposite of what I do, yeah, that would bother me.

"Thank you for apologizing, PKchu."

No worries, I was being rather rude. I don't particularly enjoy when people reply to me that way, no matter content of their post.

---

Sorry to hear about your problems Smarteck. I can definitely understand things like that, particularly depression...

Hey this is weird. It finally launched after changing it to what you specified and I tried for hours with igo32.dll.bak and igo32bak.dll to no avail. Thanks. I hope it doesn't mess up in some way when I shut the game down and return at a later time.

Maybe changing the file extension breaks it where keeping the name of the file doesn't? I have no idea.

Glad it worked. It should only rollback if Origin updates. I don't notice any performance issues otherwise.

For some reason Texmod has stopped working for me, it simply won't load up the game if I use any High resolution texture (doesn't matter which). It loads for a while then crashes to desktop with no error (the game crashes, not Texmod)

Any idea as to why this keeps happening? It was working fine a week or so before the Citadel DLC. Also some mods such as the Dark Ajax armor stopped working after a few weeks, and reverted back to the white-ish Cerberus armor.

*sighs*

p.s posted this also in saltisgood's topic for the HR textures, hoping someone will catch this.

High resolution texture? Can you use the same and not get crashes?

That's really weird.

Mods failing to show up might be fixed with load order. One time I got that when I started the game with Texmod but forgetting to go through the normal renaming business, it loaded but it didn't reflect any texture changes. But that's just me being derpy, probably not your problem.

You could also try redownloading the texture in the odd case it corrupted.

I also have this problem but mine is most likely down to me trying to have almost every mod on the main post. Out of interest is anyone running a lot of the mods and running the game fine?

Smartek you have to be one of the nicest people I've come across on the bsn. I'm glad that not all threads have to end in a flame war. I'm very sorry for the troubles you've been going through, I wish there was some way I could help and if there is let me know! I for one am extremely thankful for all the mods that you've put out. Well, thankyou to everyone who has contributed mods to Mass Effect. I'm still very much looking forward to the Citadel DLC Pack :)

Hey there. Great job on the textures, this is really great.

I looked through the first post several times, but I can't find an answer to my questions, so here they are:

1. Where can I download all Textures in one pack? I only can find a Zona C and a Zona D master file, but what's with alle other textures?
2. When loading such big textures, wouldn't it take almost forever for texmod to load them all into the game? And that before every start of the game?

Thanks a lot for help :)

You can't download them all in one file, you have to download every single file individually (EDIT - Maybe not, read what Smarteck posted) besides the Master File for the enviornment textures, which is a combined file. All the armors, ect must be downloaded individually.

If you use every texture, you should expect to be waiting around 20 minutes every start up.

For 1: There is no massive pack tpf file, but you can download a lot of MODs in a single zip or rar file from Skydrive (link and instructions are in first page), also you can addd  a big amount of tpf files to Texmod in a single Open time (read first page).

For 2: Every time you use Texmod need to wait, becouse in the black loading screen Texmod is sending all the new textures directly to your Video Memory before the game start, so.. when the game need some of that textures your PC will use that HD textures already in the video memory and not that lowres textures from the game folder.

Before purchasing The Citadel DLC I was using almost all the mods from the first page without a problem but since buying and installing it all my DLC fails to authorise when the game starts but works fine when not using Texmod. Any ideas? Desperate to get through the game but I just can't play through it without those lovely HR texture mods :(
