That's strange...I have 4 GB of RAM (but Windows XP and 3,5 GB actually). I used LAA to let the game use more than 2 GB. However, I'm having problems when the game uses more than 1,8 GB of RAM despite 1-1,5 GB free. Does anyone know what's the reason for it?

What version of Windows are you using?

And I checked the file header for MassEffect3.exe -- it appears to be already set to handle >2Gb of RAM.

Maybe it's insufficient video memory ...
How much memory does your video card?

//////

GeForce 9600 GT=) 512 Mb. Well, maybe it's because of that.

I use Windows XP SP3 32-bit.
As far as I know, Texmod uploads all of the textures at the same time, no matter whether they are using at the time or not, right?

It might be because you are using a 32-bit operating system. I think I remember something about XP having trouble using more than 2GB or 4GB of RAM on a single application. I haven't used XP in a while, so I really don't know.

It probably has something to do with XP 32-bit and reserved system memory, though.

And I'm not exactly sure how TexMod works anymore. I think it depends on the file type the texture is saved in. For instance, smarteck's newest optimized version uses much less system RAM than previous versions.

Windows XP 32bit can not allocate more than 2GB of RAM to any one application without using the PAE workaround. In which case it can allocate 3GB, but at the cost of RAM available for system resources.

Holy crap, only 512mb of video ram? You need a new card. Even my GTX480 which has 1.5gb of video ram can't hold all the high def textures.

Open task manager (CTRL ALT DEL for Windows XP)

Hit the Performance tab

Under Physical Memory, how much ram is free?

Now start up Mass Effect 3 with texmod.

Play a little bit (10 minutes)

How much ram is free now?

Ok, files "OPTIMIZED 2" are ready and tested.
Only lacked the Citadel and the user InBleedingRapture took care to correct it. Now all files are ready :D

I begin to upload files to Mediafire and will share in the Post in a moment.

The new file to the Citadel "The Citadel HR v1.3 OPTIMIZED 2" is already being loaded on Skydrive .. in a few minutes should be available at that site.

If you ever need anything checked at 2560x1600 resolution, let me know.

Yes, thank you .. user  neilthecellist says the new optimized files have lower quality (which should not happen, because new files use the same files at 100% quality .. just change the formats of JPG to DDS), I asked him appoint any of the files the notice that they look bad, so I send him a new version, but he answered me anything .. you have already tested the new files "OPTIMIZED 2" to 1600p?, you noticed that loss of quality?

Hey Smarteck,

I'll check later tomorrow, or maybe Dead Meat will get there first. I'm cramming for exams all day and night today :(

Downloading the Optimized 2 version now. I'll let you know how it looks in a minute.

AH. I see now. The Citadel textures never loaded for me because they weren't uploaded this morning when I went to download it off your Skydrive. I've redownloaded the folder (Optimized 2) but again, won't be able to test it for a while.

There is a small degredation in the quality of the textures going from version 1.1 of the Normandy textures to 1.2. 1.3 optimized looks identical to 1.2. The latter also perform the same for me, with version 1.3 being smaller in memory.I'd call that a step in the right direction.

And while the 1.1 textures looked the best, they performed pretty badly in places where they were used heavily. Mainly the Normandy's CIC. Around the galaxy map, the performance was cut in half instantly before. Now I hardly notice any change.

The new files > OPTIMIZED 2, are available at the Post. These are the same files used in regular files, but in a new format. Now consume significantly less RAM and Video Memory. I noticed a savings of 3GB of RAM with these new files. In addition, this new format is more friendly with the graphics engine of the game, and it shows during the game, load textures faster going from one to another.

I want to thank a lot to the user InBleedingRapture for all the help and technical information that he provided in the process. Without that help these files would not exist.

During my tests, I load 38 "MODs" I walked all levels of the Citadel, for those of Normandy and from the menu "Load saves" Iwent to Mars, The Citadel, The Normandy, Menae and the Academy, and the game did not present any problem in moving from a savegame to another.

The PC on which I did the tests had 8GB of RAM and 1.5GB of video memory, the maximum consumption observed in extra RAM under Windows, caused by the game was 2.3GB (4.3GB Total), in Windows 7 x64.

So fast, I could say that the resource consumption was reduced by almost half.

Enjoy ;)

If you want to check video memory consumption, you can download http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/. Just keep in mind antialiasing settings impact memory in a huge way. So when I'm maxing out 3GB of video RAM, it's because I'm running at 2560x1600 with 8x multisampling antialiasing.

For those who already had the files "OPTIMIZED 2" from Skydrive, in the Post there is a new version for the interior of Normandy, v1.4, with several corrections to the lighting of the new textures. Screens with fixes in the .rar file.

As I said, the system sees only 3,5 GB instead of 4 GB. Moreover, I allowed ME3 to use more than 2 GB, so I thought there wouldn't be any problems.
Perhaps it's because of the viodeacard. It just remind me of Crysis 2 where the textures were much better and I didn't have any problems on the High Quality. And as I wrote, Crytek released a mod with the HD textures which installed into the game and were about 2-3 GB.
It would be great if Bioware would make an application that could help us to install textures into the game (without Texmod eating too much resourses).

Yes, but not all 2-3 GB of textures were ran AT THE SAME TIME in Crysis 2. Each map uses its own set of textures...

The problem is the game is designed to prevent us from modifying it. The only work around for this is Texmod. And all the textures are loaded in memory even if they aren't currently in use at all times as the poster above said. This causes the resources used by Mass Effect to more than double in some cases. Crysis was designed with larger textures to begin with. And only a percentage of the game's total textures are loaded into memory at any one time.

Absolutely. It's what I'm talking about - how to find a decision to aviod Texmod. Unfortunately, it's impossible at the moment.:(
