I'm probably going to work on Diana Allers today. Someone made a request for that. There is the Blood Dragon armor which I'm also working on here and there. Some other things that can be addressed that I can think of:
  • M-11 Wraith
  • Chakram rifle
  • M-97 Viper (I may have missed a mod out there if this was already done)
  • Reckoner Knight Armor
  • Mars (Some assets could use work, but the rocks aren't too bad and are very difficult to edit.)
  • Diana Allers
  • Blood Dragon Armor
  • Cerberus Assault Armor (This one actually looks pretty bad)
  • Inferno Armor (I know someone did a mod for this but I've never seen it.)
  • Some of Shepard's other armors could use some attention. I know some mods exist for some of them, but I'm not sure how good they are or if they are complete.
  • Cerberus shuttles
  • Tali's alternate outfits
  • Garrus's second outfit, CE outfit and DLC outfit
  • EDI's second outfit
  • Vega's CE outfit and DLC outfit
  • Ashley's CE outfit and DLC outfit
  • Javik's alternate outfit
I'm sure I'm forgetting some. Though few of these have had any open requests. Some of these would be really easy to take on if you've modded that character or a similar outfit before. Like Ashley's DLC outfit is basically a blacked out version of the DLC outfit I retextured for Liara. So it should be easy because I know the existing texture. Javik should be easy for Smartek, etc.

As we've talked about earlier, Mars does reuse many textures and assets found elsewhere in the game which have been modded. So it does look better than it would in the stock game anyway. So I'm not sure it's all that important. Others are only really an issue if people want to use those outfits.

Some assets like the helmets seem to work for male and females. The female version is just smaller. For instance, the helmet textures for ManShep, FemShep, Ashley, James and Kaiden are all more or less the same. Same size, pixel count, etc. The textures are shaped the same and everything is in the same place. It just appears to scale differently on the women. The Defender armor on females in the game (such as Captain Riley) seems to scale as well and you can't really tell if it's a woman wearing it or a smaller male character. So I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is possible that it will work. However, the texture for Captain Riley's armor is the same as the multiplayer version of it and it incorporates the Death Mask instead of having a separate helmet file. FemShep won't be like that, but Captain Riley is the only female character I've seen wear one in the single player game, so I'm making an educated guess when I say, it may very well work for her as well.

I haven't pulled FemShep's Defender armor texture to see if it's the same as ManShep's or not. It very well might work for both. I simply haven't tested it. I don't have a FemShep save game that I'm past Mars with. In fact I only created it to test Ashley's texture out when I had internet connection issues for a time. That save game doesn't have any DLC content added to it, so I don't have to be online to load it.

I will check and see if it works for female Shepard's as well. If it is the same and simply scales you'll be good to go right away. If it isn't, then I'll probably create a FemShep version at some point. But it will take a little while as this is a very difficult texture to work with. I have the techniques for working on this one down, so it won't take as long to do as this one did. But it won't be as fast as some other textures were to create either.

Any thoughts on Allers? I need to apply a fabric pattern to her outfit. I can go leather or cloth. Preferences? I have a feeling that BioWare was going for leather / vynl based on the texture, but that seems a bit ****ty for a reporter and since there isn't too much on the texture, I've got no idea. I can also blend parts of it as a fabric or leather as well.

Thoughts?

EDI has three outfits I'm aware of. The one where she appears essentially naked, and that's the default nanosuit that she wears aboard the Normandy. Then there is the white and blue colored one similar to what EVA wore. Then there is the blacked out version of that suit. The blacked out one is the one that was already done as was her default "nude" appearance. To my knowledge there isn't a high resolution version of her Dr. EVA outfit.

Update:

I finally finished the N7 Defender's normal map layer. Thanks to InBleedingRapture for some instructions he gave me some time ago that I just now figured out how to follow. I'm playing with the orange texture now. So once I feel like I've got that looking the way I want to, I'll make it available for download.

No there isn't any high resolution textures for Dr. Eva,her character has such a short appearance in the game. I would like to see Mars get done eventually it's a great level. Well i play both bro and femshep. Thank you for the Liara textures alternative make up she man she looks fantastic and your weapon mods are awesome! I totally understand i figured it was something completely different. In terms of Allers well the character is so so, but yeah i think leather would be awesome and make the character possibly more attractive but it's whatever you want to do it's your project I will be happy no matter what Dark_Meat. The Cerberus armor is terrible someone retext it to Alliance colors but even with that looks horrible and they imported it to ME2 which looks even more worse. How are you doing today?

I wasn't talking about EVA herself, but rather the suit she wears prior to it being burned off. EDI has a similar outfit. I do not believe anyone has done a high resolution version of that.

All the blood in the game. The injured squadmates in the Extended Cut, the Cerberus trooper on Sur'kesh, and the Quarian dying on Rannoch when you rescue Zaal'Koris. If I had any idea how to do this stuff, I'd do it myself, cause those blood stains look awful.

The other one I noticed was the Atlas. Has anyone done that?

It is with great pleasure that I finally present the N7 Defender armor in high resolution.

Tested only with male Commander Shepard. Screenshots include additional mods such as high resolution skin and the high resolution helmet both made by Smartek. These are not included with this mod. This is for the N7 Defender armor alone.

Armor is in 4096x4096 resolution and includes almost completely new texture and normal map files and a 100% new lightmap texture. Files are optimized in the .DDS format for the best balance of performance and quality.

You can download the file here.

Update:

Diana Allers is coming along quickly. Moving into testing phases now. The texture itself looks great and even preserves the original while adding more detail. In other words I was able to create a leather texture, scale it appropriately, then blend it into the parts that needed it as an overlay. I did a similar trick with the skin using another texture. It looks great on the texture, but I'll have to see what it looks like in the game. The texture itself couldn't be easier to work with. By far the most simple in the game in pretty much every way.

That looks awesome! Any chance you could reuse some of those assets (carbon fiber texture, cloth texture, etc.) on the other armor (including the default armor)?

The other thing that should be taken care of are the male hospital uniforms (human, salarian, and turian) as well as a few other NPCs.

Also, an FYI for TheDarkFalkon, the Carnifex and Paladin have something wonky going on with the normals on the back of the gun where it sticks out a bit. You might want to take a look.

Absolutely. Every texture I create to do these gets saved for future projects or to update the older ones. In fact I'm already updating the Defender again. I saw a couple artifacts in the texture and I'm doing something with the stripes so settle them down so they are a little less bright like the original, but still clearly visible. I'll post shots of both when I'm done. And I won't remove the old link so if you prefer the brighter stripes then go for it, or if you liked them a little more subdued then you have that to look forward to.

As for the default armor, I'm guessing your talking about Shepard's regular N7 armor? If you haven't seen Smartek's version of it you should. Damn thing looks spectacular. I'm not sure I could improve upon it. In fact I styled Liara's secondary armor outfit and Ashley's primary armor outfits after it using assets I got from Smartek to make them.

 ///

Thank you for sharing that Defender armor. I've been moving a bit in the next update of the Post, for lack of time I have delayed, but I think tomorrow I take the quarians textures, and finish with that, I think that carries out my last contribution to the Post.

I have reviewed Femshep N7 armor and have added the red color to the logo. both Male an Female N7 Armor are optimized and tested. I think in about 2 days the new files should be available to all.

Salu2 ;)

A few people have asked about that. All the blood textures are pretty awful, to be honest. If nobody looks into this, I might give it a shot. We'll have to see about that, though.

Thoughts on Modding the EC Content

Unfortunately, addressing the EC blood / battle damage textures could be extremely difficult. They are on screen briefly and capturing them will be somewhat challenging. But that's not the worst part. First we have to know how the game does what it does.

Scenario 1

We have the combat fatigues as a precident for how this works as well as Admiral Anderson's formal uniform. What the game does is use two separate textures. One for the normal armor and one for the battle damaged / bloody version. The way Texmod works is to replace the texture in memory with a custom texture. The problem with that is that it always superceedes the game's original texture.

For the Admiral Anderson Uniform and the bloody combat fatiques to work and interchange properly due to events int he game, you have to create two versions of the custom texture. Damaged and stock. They have different file names and duplicate each other essentially. This means that in order for them to look right, the people who authored the various armor / texture mods for all the characters would probably need to do an EC version with battle damage / blood etc. for each one. Or the person doing the EC content mod would have to use .TPF extractor and use that mod as a base for it to look consistent. And to really have that look right, you need to do all three textures for each version. So let's take Ashley as an example. I'd need her armor texture, normal map, and lightmap textures. Then I'd have to do a battle damaged version of each. That increases the number of textures in the mod to 6. If they aren't in the same mod, they won't interchange properly. So that takes a mod like Liara or Ashley's from 13MB or so to double that size.

This will need to be done for all the squad mates and all of their outfits. Some characters like Liara, Ashley and James all have four outfits. Garrus and Tali have at least three, as does EDI. Javik only has two though. You can see how bad it will get, and very quickly.

But wait there's more!

Yeah unfortunately our existing mods only include the armor textures for the most part. So now head textures will have to be done to include the blood for everyone. These can be separate from the rest of the mods, but will both need to be done in order to look right.

And that ladies and gents is what it will take to do all that crap right if the game handles the battle damage the way it does other similar circumstances with battle damage and blood. At a minimum the faces need to be redone for everyone, Fortunately, that should mean only one texture per squad mate, and thus only one version per character. Though some characters like Ashley, Liara and James have outfits which put stuff on their heads complicating it even further.

Scenario 2

However, there is some ray of hope. I played the EC once, and it looked to me like the game overlayed the battle damage over the custom textures. I'm not positive on that, but if that's what it does, we are in luck. There shouldn't be more than one overlay per character. Well one for their head and one for the bodies. Some like Ashley and Liara which share the same outfits, with color changes may use the same overlay. I need to play it again to see. I did try to get a screen grab of what I think I saw, but the problem was that FRAPS wasn't running so the shot wasn't taken.

The thing is, it would be weird for the game to treat those scenes differently than they do in the rest of the game for similar occurrences of battle damage to armor and characters. At this point the only thing that gives me hope that it is handled with an overlay (which frankly will be extremely tough to capture and might be harder to edit) is the fact that the damaged showed on the characters during the EC. Normally the custom textures take priority over anything the game does in Texmod, yet the damage showed anyway. If it worked like the combat fatiques and Anderson's uniform, it shouldn't have.

New N7 Defender armor version. This as promised is one with more subdued stripes. This looks a bit more like the original texture. There is a lot of detail on the stripes, but you have to get up close to see it. They appear less damaged than the white ones do. What was odd is that the original texture had such a mixture of white and silver for the stripes it was hard to see what they were going for. Perhaps they were compensating for poor normal maps or something. I don't know. In any case I like this one better, but I'll leave both out there. But this one is closer to the look of the original for those that prefer that.

N7 Defender Armor v1.41F

Image IPB
Image IPB

This is the last time I'm touching this specific texture. It's really hard to work with and I think I've finally achieved what I set out to achieve. Of course if there are issues I'll work on those and try and iron them out, but I think I am satisifed enough to stop messing with it all the time. I'll concentrate on other projects. I'm almost finished with a high resolution Diana Allers, and I've had people ask for a couple of things. I'll probably investigate the EC blood issue as well.

EDIT:

Corrected an artifacting issue with the Defender armor in certain lighting conditions. As a result it has a slightly more glossy appearance than it used to, but it's still not nearly as shiny as the stock version is.

For the EC content or in general? In general Anderson and Shepard have higher resolution skin mods already. I've found a good technique I think (tested on Diana Allers) for giving skin that natural grain it should have very, very easily. The exception is Liara who's skin doesn't really need any work as they textured her differently, and spent a lot of time doing so it would seem.

As for the blood content in the EC, yeah, they will either be separate skin textures (as is the case with Shepard after being injured) or it's an overlay on the stock texture.

There is that Quarian on Rannoch you meet while saving Koris that has a bloodied texture. Might be easier to grab that one. But it may not be the same one....so....I'll see if I can grab it.

EDIT: Just had a look at the Quarian one. It looks like the maps used for eyebrows and such so like a norm map....but it looks like rather.....complicated and a pain in the ass to make high resolution. I'll be doing an EC run through just to make sure it's the same one.

In that screenshot of Liara in the EC above, it looks to me like the blood isn't part of her normal texture, but rather an overlay. And as I said before, I'm almost positive the damage appeared over the texture mod I created for Liara and the Garrus armor texture done by Smartek.

Oh that I can definitely confirm. It's an overlay texture that can be improved. The texture just looks so...complicated to fix. And it actually isn't as low rez as it appears.
