I've kept saved games for every game I've played since...well, at least in the past 12 years or so. I've a lot of saved games archived. It's helpful for these types of situations because I just don't have to worry.
And like you don't know more already

The origin system combined with character carryover could make for some really cool custom tailored opening 'origin' stories for DA2. It would be really awesome if the game world itself was shaped by the decisions you made and the ending you got.
All that being said I would actually be pretty surprised if character carryovers worked well for DA2. I think people will be expecting new specializations and different skill trees. It seems like they would almost have to use some corny plot device to explain why you are suddenly naked, level 1 and don't remember any of the events that happen between the games.

I hope Dragon Age 2 has nothing to do with my current characters.
I hope it has nothing to do with the Dragon Age, unless it tells a tale from a different land. The better part of this age is already over!

in BG2, you can import because it is a continuation of BG1. I doubt DAO2 is a continuation of DAO1. But i hope it is.

Doesn't this qualify for a psychological condition?
Regardless, congrats on that archival achievement

Official site for DA2 says we play a new character. And in different part of the world. So importing an old save (if it'll even be in) will only make cosmetic changes akin to ME2.
Importing is confirmed to be in, and it defines the status of the world.

I think by importing the saves you get to define really major events, like who is the king of Ferelden, who is on the throne of Orzimmar, what happend to the circle of mages etc. And all of these probably just gossip told by other characters.
Perhaps there will also be some cameos from OC party members, like Zevran or Leliana. Or maybe we get to see some flashbacks from Lothering.
Anything else seems a little streched seeing as we're not in Ferelden anymore.
