This is a personal take on the matter of closing the series.

To me it all started in 2008 when I first heard of a PC version of the game. I've never owned a console and since I lived in a third world country I downloaded the game pirated. By the time I was finishing the introduction of the game I went to a store and picked up a retail version of the game. It was the first time I ever spent money on a PC game because I believed it was worth it. I actually stopped doing piracy right there. It was that life changing. Today I own around 60 to 70 original games, mostly on Steam but some are on Origin, as displeasing as Origin is. I actually only have an Origin account because of Mass Effect. I couldn't care less for the other games there.

After I finished the first one, I couldn't wait to hear anything Mass Effect 2. Back then ME2 wasn't even announched, let alone ME3. But I just couldn't hold on to it. I made several of my friends to buy it and play it. Some were sceptical and downloaded it as well, then at some point, when it became available on Steam all of them bought it. It trully was that amazing. I still continued to spread the Mass Effect gospel to my friends and when ME2 finally became available on PS3 all of them owned it, original mind you, no small feat in a market where people just download games (Latin America).

Then came ME2 and for the first time I preordered a game. Being that in my country preordering a Collector edition was hard and prohibitivevly expensive, I bought the Digital Deluxe Edition online. I couldn't be happier. The saga continues and I would be able to see Ash again. I bought DLC for the first time as well. I'd never bought DLC before and I might not buy any in the future either, but in this case I just couldn't get enough. I needed it. Given that ME2 went on to become more mainstream, it was bound to get some hate, but I still didn't listen. Some hated the mechanics, the lack of RPG elements, the level cap and the ending. I finished it and loved it. It was 100/100 in my book.

By that time I already played ME1 several times saving different decisions and went through ME2 with them. My last playthrough was a few weeks ago in preparation for ME3, and let me tell you, the suspense was killing me. This was the second time I pre-ordered something and I just couldn't wait. I downloaded the demo and played it like 3 or 4 times. I saw every little piece of material that was released to the press. I even caped my house internet connection because it's limited to 30/30 GB on/off peak a month, but I didn't mind. I went through hell to download the game after that just because of the internet cap, but I couldn't care less. It was Mass Effect 3! 3.5 years waiting!

Then came ME3. I couldn't be happier. Even after seeing that Chobot was "acting" in it. How could someone put her there is beyond me, even the kid VAd better.  By this time I was traveling around the world so I got it and activated it before it became available where I am now (not my home country). Everything was epic. I heard some stuff about the endings, but as a true fan that doesn't pay attention to rage, I didn't care. I went on a marathon even skipping classes at uni just to finish it. I didn't sleep much or eat much. I remember thinking "OMG this has to be the best franchise ever. Maybe they'll combine the trilogy into one Game Of the Decade Edition in the future to let everyone experience the story with a cohesive gameplay" (ME3's gameplay is the best IMO, aside from a few glitches). Then, I finished the game...

Let me say this, I don't mind the endings per-se as much as I hate how they handled what came next. I felt heartbroken, depressed and alone... How can a game of hope turn to this everlasting nothingness with a sense of irrelevance and lack of closure. Worst part is that, even if the characters died right there, I still cared about the whole galaxy. What happened to the quarians and geth? Did the krogans play nice this time? How about the rachnii queen? Did the rachnii flowrished again? Did the prothean go back to Illos to see his bretheren and die with them? Did the humans stopped being as selfish? What about the salarians? Were they ok with how things turned out? I just can't imagine that the game ended like that... Why would I bother with the quarians and geth or the krogans and the genophage? but most importantly, why o why did the Normandy crash in the middle of nowhere? Why the hell were my teammates in there? It still makes no difference.

Why would a game that prouds itself with details can go as far as throw one complete option the way of magic with the whole synthesis idea. You go through hoops to explain what is this "mass effect", what are the relays, how FTL communication works and how FTL travelling works as well. You mention scientific buzz words like quantum entanglement and einstein-bose condensate. The part of QE was actually quite nice because to some in the real field of science it may be a way to actually transmiting information FTL however debatable that is.

It can't be easy to finish a story, but the true fans did deserve something better. To say you have different endings is an insult to intelligence. The endings represent nothing in the grand scheme of things other than the fact that the reapers are no longer a threat. If I was color blind I couldn't even make sense of the cinematics because, aside from color, the change very, very, very little. I just can't gather enough strength to actually make myself bother playing through the other two again, much less the third. Especially after what this series, above others, meant to me. It's not "just" a game.

Bioware, you made a game that had a really big impact on some people's life, however pathetic that may sound to some. This wasn't a CoD, a GoW or a Halo. This was a trilogy that could very well stand the test of time. Not because of the game, but because, for the first time, I thought I could be that guy.

In summary, the game was a really good one. It might've been different than the others but the story and gameplay were up to par, if not better. Music and voice acting were overwhelmingly good (aside from the Chobot incident), and overall, this game was a really good attempt at finishing the arc, except for the very last part. I sincerelly hope that you guys address that.

Cheers.
