Which mission do I do to get Javik/Prothy? I have the dlc, just haven't gotten too deep into the game due to work and such so I'm clueless about this. Can I get him say, five or six hours in?
Is it just me or does everyone hate Javik?

Yes, much less even.
Since this is a non-spoiler forum I'll just say he's at the place where it all began.

Not me. I think he is great: like having a pure renegade PC playing alongside you. I've begun bringing him along on missions a lot more specifically because his insights are interesting, sometimes condescending, but always fun.
If bioware trolled anyone with Javik, it was poor Liara!

Yeah he's an utter jerk. I had high hopes to finally meet a Prothean and he turns out to be a condesending b****. So not worth the money.

Javik is the bitter and twisted sole survivor of a once proud and powerful race that dominated the galaxy. He has seen everything he fought for die in the most brutal way imagineable, and has lived nothing but war, tragedy and death. His viewpoint is one of extreme military necessity and paranoia, a product of his time. He understands and explaines this to others. Trying to play "hey, lets be friends" after learning that you are the sole survivor of a centuries long brutal genocide probably isn't going to jive well with most.
Of course he is going to come off a bit...unrelatable. But he's actually a rather cool character, and eases up as it all goes on.

I love Javik. Considering what he's been through, his behavior and perspective is understandable.

Javik is awesome! He's a permanent member when Garrus don't feel like coming with me.

Javik is incredible. I love this take on the Protheans, and having him around during a Liara romance doubles his importance.
So glad I preordered the Collector's Edition.

Not a terrible character, but not amazing either. Kind of ruined the mystery of the Protheans and he seemed like an all-round jack nape arrogant guy, which makes sense in context.

I thought he was awesome. I'm only upset that I had to pay to access him when it was clear he was meant to be in the game from the beginning.

Well, I didn't much care for his personality at first. His insight and abilities were cool though, and over time, he started to grow on me a bit. He is certainly unique. I kinda liked how the scene with him on the Citadel played out, and I'm really glad that I decided at random to bring him along on Thessia. I realized that I hadn't brought him along on any main missions yet, so I thought I'd bring him to Thessia, not expecting much. But wow is that whole encounter just awesome with him!

This. He also has good powers. My Shep's an engineer, so he can do a lot of useful stuff my Shep can't.

Well he is the avatar of vengeance (if I recalled correctly.) He has a lot of good info, but you really have to tolerate his attitude (which is understandable given that he was part of a dominant empire as well as having to suffer a Reaper invasion.)
