Warning: Carebear alert.

Like a lot of people here, I was devastated by the ending, and the more I thought about it, the more frustrated  and angry I got.  I've been trying to process it and posting about it for two days.

However, I'm also worried that we're sending Bioware the wrong message.  While the ending is a big part of the story, we need to not lose sight of the fact that the rest of the game was over-the-top fantastic.  Bioware needs to know this, too.  While to a certain extent, all of the criticisms are valid and deserved, there are doubtless some at Bioware, particularly the writers, who are crushed by our response.  They are, indeed, only human.

After a two day break, I've finally forced myself to start a second playthrough.  I had such a sublime experience my first playthrough - until the ending - and I wanted to see if I could recapture any of that.

I could.  This game is really, really, really good - and we all know that.  It grabs you by the b***s and doesn't let go.

I want Bioware to at least consider doing something about the ending, BUT I also don't want them to get discouraged by all the complaints - we want and need good dev-fan relations because they've been good to us and we've been good to them.  The criticisms are coming from people who love the game with a burning passion, and they need to be aired.  I hope Bioware doesn't just dismiss them, but I also hope Bioware doesn't get the impression that the game is a failure.  It's not - all those positive industry reviews are actually correct.  I still think that this is some of the best writing in a video game I've ever seen (minus the ending, although I'd be willing to concede they gave it an honest try.)

And I want players to wait until they're ready, but to jump into the game again.  Partition that ending away somewhere, and try to focus on the moment.  Because there are some great moments in this game.  Bioware might give us a better, more thoughtful, ending in a DLC, but they might not.  You have to respect their artistic integrity.  We shouldn't rob ourselves of the 99% of the game that is so wonderful.

Most folks agree that the game is fantastic, it is the end that truly kill is it and it's replay value for most if not all players . Not having an ending where all your hard work pay off is annoying.
Also where did they pull out that Kid VI from ? It's logic is flawed and wrong.
All 3 options are not acceptable,

One dooms the Universe, blue
Another dooms all organics , green
the last dooms all tech and the Geth, red

where is the good one ? My shepard fought tooth and nails for the peace of the Geth, gathered support from all species, and whent about in an attempt to max out chances of survival, just so we could hand off all the choices to a kid ?! Might aswell have called it the "Red Queen" and slapped a Umbrella sticker to it.

OP is right. The first "problem" of the game (and the entire series) is the fact, that it is a fantastic milestone in games history. That's precisely why the ending hurts so much. I want play these games again, but I can't with these endings.

Couldn't agree more. Minus the ending, the game is incredible. If I didn't love it so much, I wouldn't care so much about the endings.

I completely agree, and if anyone were to ask me what I thought of Mass Effect 3 now, I would tell them the exact same thing I said during my first day playing it: It's awesome!

I think the fact that the game is so incredibly good is what makes the ending that much more disappointing. If it had been a bad game, then the bad ending probably wouldn't have had such an enraging impact on the community.

I wholly agree. I feel that ME3 was probably one of, if not the best game I've ever played. It's only the endings that not only left me feeling miserable but took away any replay value the series had for me, including the first two games.

I completely agree with you. My first playthrough was 33 hours: the first 32 hours and 45 minutes were pure amazingness. Best-game-ever worthy, in my opinion.

Then the endings happened, and the final 15 minutes of the game shot it all to hell.

I agree completely. I loved this game completely and have been engrossed in the series since the first game. The game being as fantastic as it is, and the ending as gut wrenching as it was only made my reaction worse. IF(and thats a big IF) you forget the ending it really was a fantastic game. Probably my favorite in the series and my favorite game of all time.

Everyone agrees the game is incredible except for the last few minutes. Up until those final minutes I was convinced that the Mass Effect trilogy was the best sci-fi series ever made.

But... it doesn't need to hurt. We love it. We would love it even more if it didn't hurt us like this.

100% on board. Mass Effect 3, and by extension the Mass Effect series, is absolutely incredible in just about EVERY WAY, up until the last 10-15 minutes.

Of course. ME3 is one of the best games I've ever played these last few years. It's just that these endings seriously feel as if they ran out of time and had to just throw something together.

I would seriously play the game again. Just not the ending portion. For all I care, Shepard could have died right before the citadel sequence. Or maybe he's unconscious, buried in the rubble while the endings we currently have are just there to make us pissed off so Bioware/EA can release the proper ending to the game in a DLC which seems to be oh so popular these days.  And then the logic would be we'd all love them forever for it.

In Fallout 3, I didn't care a bit when my character died to save earth, but my heart broke when I finished ME3.

If I didn't love it so much, I wouldn't hurt with the ending.

I just don't get how they're going to continue the series like they've discussed with the way they decided to end it. It's pretty final.

I agree entirely. Until the end, I was absolutely loving the game. But...that end....it just killed my love for it. I picture it as a stove in a dark kitchen. Someone is slowly turning up the heat and the flame is growing and growing and the room is getting brighter. That was 95% of the game. Then, someone turns the heat off entirely, and the flame goes out. That is the end of the game. That is the end for my love of ME. I now only play it at all for the MP, which is pretty neat, if you like Horde mode.

Excellent post op, I think this is particularly what Bioware needs to take note of. I think I still have not seen anyone who disliked the game (minus endings). Bioware did a masterful job with the main game itself. I'm vocally against the endings, but it's definitely important that Bioware understands this, that it's the endings, and not the game itself that we were disappointed by.

I agree with most of the above points. Especially; love game, hate endings...because game is so good and the endings really depart from that.

Absolutely great game. It was my GOTY before the ending. Change it. Seriously. Let me have my Disney ending.

Thank you for taking the time to write something that isn't just hate! (not that I don't fully understand where it comes from) I'm damn near heartbroken by the way the game ended, and I desperately hope that Bioware changes something to at the very least provide more closure. And even though I can't bring myself to play the game again yet, I'm trying to enjoy the game for what it is despite the endings: a freaking awesome game!

Like most folk here, we loved the game except the endings...it didn't go in right way, way rushed and normandy running away, galatatic fleets idk and mass relays blowing up so it probably means sol system other relay systems are destroyed ...

The game was emotionally moving throughout the entire game, doing a playthrough of my character that I've had since ME1. Bioware really makes you care about your squad-- problem is, they made us care about them so much that we were disappointed that we didn't see them, really, at all at the end. (except for your 2 squadmates exiting the Normandy on that planet which was not satisfying at all.)

The game was good... but you have to remember. Since Mass Effect 1, they were building up all the way to one moment, but that one moment wasn't very satisfying. I will admit, I did shed a few tears in the end (seeing Shepard die and all) but that didn't mean I was completely satisfied. I was confused, and disappointed when I later started really evaluating it, then I come here to see I wasn't the only one.

We can only hope (or at least I do) that the whole or most of the part on the Citadel was him hallucinating. All I want, Bioware, is for everything I did in ME1-ME3 to matter. I didn't feel like anything I did mattered when the Mass Relays were destroyed.

Mass Effect 3 is a great game. It was the most emotional game I've ever played in my entire life. Wanting to have my vengeance for Thane and Thessia, the sacrifices of friends, etc., but that doesn't excuse the ending the came up with.

They need to fix this. Their fan base is/was too loyal and dedicated to leave the ME series like this.
