LOL ... ok, just loaded one of my saved games for the heck of it to check out some dialog.
I went to see Javik (yeah that DLC, fell for it, but... was worth it, sorry I have to admit it, Javik is awesome) in the Normandy. That saved game happened to be some time I believe after I got rid of Udina. Anyway so Javik tells me of what happened during "his Cycle" to traitors of one's own kind.
They "removed" all their limbs, and then the traitor was given a choice, eat their own flesh, or starve to death.
Yeah I understand Liara's slight disappointment as she realizes over time that after all it looks like Protheans were just overall romanticized and now they seemed very different as previously thought. That's one aspect of the ME's story which I like a lot. Having Javik telling you the truth, making you realize that even thought their civilization was very powerful and wide spread doesn't exactly mean that they were benevolent everywhere, everytime nor did they had fun just sending pods of flowers on worlds with primitive life. Them Protheans meant business for real, no wonder why it took centuries for the Reapers to get rid of them... and still, there's one breathing right there in front of me 50,000 years later, talk about durability!
Protheans didn't like traitors
